Episode 63: Holy Grail Knight Geobrick (4)

Running through the blood-soaked landscape.

It was a red battlefield, with torn pieces of flesh strewn everywhere.

A corpse here, a corpse there. Every time the soles of the feet hit the ground, there was a squishy chunk of meat.

“Damn… Damn! Damn monsters!”

Hildir, the shaman of the beast god. She steadied herself and opened an escape route.

‘A plan spanning hundreds of years failed. Damn the Holy Grail Knights, there are three such monsters!’

Geobrick, restored to his former glory, and the Lionheart King, who came from nowhere. And──

“Where are you going in such a hurry?”

The Black Witch's voice drifted in front of Hildir.

"Keuh...!"

Unlike the Holy Grail Knights, the Magician Queen did not enforce the Holy Law, but invested more firepower than anyone else.

Hildir was afraid of the Holy Law of the Grail Knights, but she considered this monster to be the one with the most 'prime' power.

Especially in a place like this where magic power was abundant.

“I have one question.”

The voice behind the veil was soft. Nevertheless, Hildir's hands and feet tremble, and her disoriented mind felt like it's being held captive.

The 'demonic' Queen stared at the red stone in her hand.

"I've heard it's called a magic stone, and that it can be mined through hunting within the gates. It's basically a new resource with concentrated magical power."

Beatrice had researched the source of the power that sustained modern Earth civilization. As a being at the pinnacle of magic, it was second nature to her to study it.

But the more she learnt about these gems and gates, the more questions she had. There were so many questions, but for now.......

“This gate. The output of magic stones was far higher than that of other gates. It was spread out as if tens or millions of monsters had been dealt with.”

“W, what about that….”

"It's strange, isn't it? No matter how big the gate is, there's only a finite amount of it inside the gate after all, and yet there's so many magic stones scattered all over this place."

It was like when one war ends, another begins.

"It's a cycle, isn't it? Just as you have tried to corrupt me."

The Queen's gaze flickered to the battlefield. Knights and soldiers mowing down the remaining beasts. The tide of battle had already turned.

"Huhu, I don't think you're a demon... but what you're doing is the same as what I've seen one do. I have so many questions for you."

Alas, Hildir realized that this woman did not consider herself just an NPC. She was the only 'living thing' at this gate, so was she planning on capturing her alive?

"Great beast gods, I call upon you-"

"Stop."

Hic, a chill ran down her spine. What was that? Hildir jerked upright at the voice tickling her ears.

"It's not a power I'm particularly fond of, but... well, you must be careful what you wish for."

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the face of the Queen as she reached for the face veil.

Hair that shimmered like molten silver, and eyes that glowed with a strange light. A coquetry can be felt just by a sweet voice and hand gestures.

An innate aura of carnality dazzled Hildir.

"Will you remain silent?"

"Ah, ah......."

The sweet voice traveled directly through her ears.

The seductive lips whispered less than a centimeter away, and Hildir couldn't fight it.

She wanted to suck on those lips, bury her face in her chest, and stroke her thighs.

She would do anything to have her affection.

"G, Goddess......."

"Blasphemous. The divine are of a different nature, so... okay, I'll allow you to call me Lady."

"Lady......."

The power of depravity was a powerful force against reason.

At Beatrice's level, she could even corrupt someone of the same sex with her voice alone. The demons of lust didn't choose her to be the next demon lord for nothing.

She was the most powerful woman of pleasure, capable of causing even the most fanatical to abandon their gods. Only the strongest of minds among the transcended beings would find this power insignificant.

[You are disappointing us again.]

It was then. The imprints of the three beast gods that had been peeled from the unfaithful shaman's body emitted their own eerie voices.

The Majo (Magic Boar), White Wolf,  and the Black Eagle. The black smoke in the form of the beasts glared at Beatrice and Hildir as if to kill them.

"Ah, ah, ah... Gods......."

Hildir shuddered in fear, sensing death. But behind her back, Beatrice wrapped her arms around her chest and grabbed her chin.

The Queen laughed as she showed off Hildir, who could not resist at all.

“Your slave is now my slave… what are you going to do now?”

[The seed of a primal pleasure...!]

[Bragging about having a slave.]

[I shall chew you up and devour you!]

The phantoms twisted with rage. Hildir shuddered and blurted out,

"T, the gods will descend. This, this gate is the realm of the beast gods... Even though they are incarnated, when the remaining beast gods descend…!”

"That must be dangerous."

The beast gods, enraged at being deprived of their slaves, began to create cracks in the space.

* * * *

With their enemies defeated and a sense of peace returning to the lands, the hunters who had fought against them also come to their senses, and naturally, a crowd formed around Leon.

"Guardian of the Grail......."

"Agent of the Gods......."

More than a living saint, a Holy Grail Knight, he was a living demigod. Owner of the Lion's Heart and guardian of the Holy Grail.

They considered it an honor just to be able to witness the existence of the Lionheart King before their eyes.

“It was an honor to fight with you, Sir Geobrick.”

"It was my honor, Your..., Majesty."

Geobrick awkwardly treated Leon with respect, for he was not the Lionheart King he knew.

"The 11th Lionheart King, Ronald Batallion Lionheart, often spoke of you and the other knights."

“Have you…met him?”

“Yes, King Ronald is in the paradise of the gods.”

"Unbelievable……."

The implications were clear. A gut-wrenching realization of why his Holy Law wasn't working.

The genuine holy power of the self-proclaimed Lionheart King.

The warm presence of the Goddess Demera that he had never felt before.

All of it pointed to one thing.

“I guess we are already dead.”

The Holy Grail Knight Geobric and the Knights of the Lavonian Dawn. Knights of the Pilgrimage and Kingdom loyal soldiers who fought for honor.

In fact, all of them were already dead, and even after death, their souls were tied and they were repeating battles and deaths like NPCs.

Leon told each and every one of them. These loyal soldiers had a right to know.

"Your Majesty...!"

It was then. Four people approaching on horseback from afar. Hari, Suho, Jaehyuk, and Soyeon were approaching.

They must had also participated in the battle with the knights, as they were covered in blood here and there.

"I told you to stay out of this battle."

“Ah! Well, that’s… We wanted to be of some help…”

“Who are these people?”

“They are my servants. And they are also residents of another world.”

Leon explained the existence of the gate, the hunters, and the quest in detail, and Hari said,

"According to the quest... one must defeat Sir Geobrick to close this gate."

“Hehehe…!”

"Sir Geobrick…?”

Hari's words made Geobrick laugh.

If one kills a creature within the gate, a magic stone will drop out. And this gate was littered with magic stones. And the gate would only close when Geobrick is defeated.

He marveled at the logic of it all.

“Your Majesty, it seems I haven’t been defeated even once in so many years!”

His voice was loud enough to hurt the eardrums. Hari approached him with difficulty and asked,

"Um... do you remember anything?"

“Hmm…! I don’t remember. We just came to subdue the barbarians.”

"There must have been some evil spells. The demons must have helped."

"......."

Hari wondered if she should tell them what she had discovered. Maybe it would drive them to despair.

But Leon, sensing her hesitation, pushed her forward,

“Speak up. These people deserve to know the truth.”

"……Yes."

Hari softly stated the truth as the Kingdom's soldiers, including Geobrick and the knights, listened.

"We've also found magic stones in your bodies... it's a special ore found in creatures within the gate."

Those with this ore belonged to the gate. With the exception of a few survivors, that was true of all.

In other words,

"You cannot leave this gate."

Geobrick was not one of the survivors.

Neither were the knights, nor the soldiers.

The moment the gate closes, they will be gone.

When the truth was finally revealed, everyone realized what they were faced with.

[Lionheart...!!!]

[I will chew you up and devour you!]

The beasts of the apocalypse entered the realm.

Filled with dense magic power, they were formidable enemies that could not be denied.

* * * *

A crack appeared in the air.

It was a far cry from when Hildir had summoned an incarnation.

At that time, there were flesh and blood to make the body of the incarnation. But not now.

All that remains at the gate were scraps of meat. Even the magic stones were destroyed by Leon and Geobrick, who regained the Holy Law.

As a result, it will take time for an incarnation to descend. Hildir testified against Beatrice's bewitchment.

"Is there any way to stop the descent of the incarnation itself?"

"Hehe, there is none... Now that this gate is... finished... the gods will use all the power of the realm... with abandon."

"Hmm......."

In other words, fighting is inevitable. Leon didn't think it was a big deal.

“I will fight. How could I leave this gate, leaving behind the knights of glory?”

As his will to fight burned in his veins, Beatrice counseled him thoughtfully,

"Your Majesty, I don't think it's wise to go head-to-head with them."

"We have no choice. I fear that if the dungeon break occurs, they will go out into the world outside."

Fight them out there or fight them here. It's best to fight them here, where there was at least one more Holy Grail Knight.

"No, there is a way."

Geobrick stepped forward, his armor gone, his massive hand flashing.

-Kwazik!

He pierced his own chest, and from within, he pulled out a gigantic magic stone.

"Huh...!"

"W, what are you doing!"

Hari and the cadets who witnessed the scene turned around in horror. However, Geobrick remained calm.

“The closing condition is that I, Geobrick, fall. Wouldn’t it be pointless to fight at a gate that will soon disappear, Your Majesty?”

"You......."

Before Leon could say anything else, another knight shouted,

“For the Lionheart King!”

"We offer our souls to the Pantheon!"

Understanding Geobricks actions, the knights of the Knights of the Lavonian Dawn pulled out the magic stones in their chests in unison.

“Thank you for following along, knights.”

Geobrick was breathing even as the magic stone, which was like a heart, was pulled out and his blood was pouring out.

Though he was breathing harder than before and breaking into a cold sweat, he was still a Holy Grail Knight of Life and Fertility. With his Holy Law restored, even if his heart was ripped out, his regenerative powers would keep him alive temporarily.

And this was the same for all members of the legion who received Geobrick's protection.

"My fellow brethren! You know that the final battle is imminent, for here, in this place, stands the Lionheart King, a representative of the glory of the gods!"

“We, the dead, are willing to give up our lives for the future of the living!”

"Will you follow me!!"

At Geobrick's rousing proclamation, the remaining knights and soldiers of the army fully understood their position and stared at their only hope.

King Lionheart.

One who could sing the glory of the gods for years to come, unlike themselves who became dead and were captured by the gate.

There was no hesitation.

As the knights had done, Lionheart's people and loyal soldiers sworn to protect the kingdom willingly ripped out their own hearts.

"Keuheug…!"

"Kkeuheub!"

"Oh, that hurts so bad!"

They ripped out their hearts, the proof that they were captive beings.

Now their bodies were moving, not by magic stones, but only by the miracle of the divine.

In the midst of their great sacrifice and loyalty, Leon spoke, his face pained,

"Your loyalty puts me to shame, and you have left me a great task."

“I would like to ask you one more favor, Your Majesty.”

Geobrick held up both his hammer and the magic stone he'd removed from his chest.

"Goddess Demera, grant me my wish."

If this gem is the vessel that binds his soul─

"I, loyal to the Lionheart King and honored by Demera, shall pass on the power of Geobrick through this hammer!"

A Holy Grail Knight's sacred offering. The Goddess Demera was pleased with the sacrifice.

The magic stones of Geobrick and his men dissipated like smoke, and infused into the hammer. The Holy Grail Knight's holy relic contained even more holy power and radiated a brilliant light.

A holy relic completed with the dedication of the Holy Grail Knight, honorable knights, and loyal soldiers. Geobrick handed the hammer to Leon.

"Please hold on to it. Until one day, someone will hold this hammer for your Majesty."

"......."

Leon gladly accepted the hammer. Geobrick clasped Leon's hand.

"It was an honor to fight alongside you."

“I will remember your glorious ascension, Sir Geobrick."

Leon turned around without hesitation. The Queen and the cadets followed behind him.

The horsemen stepped forward, dismounting from their mounts and willingly giving them to the hunters.

"Take it. Even if you lack horsemanship, you should follow the King's lead."

"......."

Lee Yong-wan hesitantly took over the horse offered to him by the knight who had only moments before been at each other's throats with him.

More than a hundred hunters rode on the horses of the knights.

Geobrick commanded,

"Knights who are still on your mounts. This is your final order. Protect the King until the final retreat."

""Yes, sir!""

The living rode off, leaving the back to the remaining horsemen.

The dead, who had given their will to the living, place their hands on their chests.

“Live an honorable life.”

“May the gods bless you.”

Thousands of soldiers saluted Leon. They turn to face ahead, not looking back at Leon and his party as they disappear from view.

Baron Laurent Dominique approached him as he put his armor back on and was about to step into the battlefield.

"Sir Geobrick."

"Sir Laurent. I see no sign of Sir Gaston."

“He died fighting the beasts. Instead, he left behind this sword.”

Laurent offered the sword left behind by his close friend to Geobrick. It was for him who had empty hands.

"A fine sword. I will cut down my enemies with this sword and appease Sir Gaston’s soul.”

"He will be pleased."

-Prrrr...!

Geobrick caressed the Pegasus that flew toward him. A comrade who chased away the black eagles that hovered around him throughout the battle.

“You will meet your true end, my comrade.”

Geobrick mounted his horse and took the lead. Followed by the Knights of the Lavonian Dawn, the knights, and the soldiers of the realm.

The beast-gods burst through the cracks, bringing with them gigantic mutants and countless minions.

Against the forces of evil and the gods that no mere mortal can stand, Geobrick confidently shouted out,

“I am Geobrick…!”

"One hundred thousand enemies of the Kingdom I have slain in person, and five million I have defeated as a War Knight!"

"Undefeated in two hundred and twenty years and fifteen hundred battles!"

"Defended Gerhane against three hundred thousand orcs, and won against the ogre chieftain in Montreal!"

"Demera protected me, Arianna watched over me, and Pethos was delighted over me."

“I am the mighty knight of Montreal! I am Geobrick, the Holy Grail Knight of Life and Fertility!"

“You evildoers who have been reduced to beasts because of their greed for power. What do you think you're capable of?!!"

The resounding echo made even the beastified creatures with only instinct left tremble.

A saint who shined brightly on the chaotic battlefield.

A man favored by the gods and bestowed with their power.

A knight of glory who symbolizes the existence of divinity and the destruction of evil.

He called out,

"Come, let us go, my fellow warriors. Today we will die for justice. The gods will watch over us."

""For the Goddess!!""

""For honor!!!""

""For Lionheart...!!!""

In a majestic voice like the roar of a lion, the Holy Grail Knight draws his sword.

"For Lionheart."

Forward, singing his final glory.

“Glory be to you.”
