[WN] Three Skills : Volume 1 Interlude 3

Volume 1

Interlude

One God

Translator : PolterGlast

This is the world of nothingness where Kushina had arrived before being sent to the other world. It is filled with pure white, and the only things there were two wooden chairs, presumably for when someone came.

In such a world, a girl who looked about the age of a teenager was sitting on a chair, humming a tune. She seemed to be in a very good mood, as if something good had happened.

"As always, you sure like to wear such tacky clothes."

A voice came from a little distance away from the girl.

The woman had long, straight, greenish-white hair, and she was wearing a long, wide white cloth as a dress. Despite her simple attire, she exuded a sense of grandeur and brilliance. It was probably a phenomenon caused by her presence. Her chest was full and her hips were rounded, but overall her body was slender and had a figure that would excite any man. Her face was also very well-proportioned, with kind, drooping eyes and a well-balanced nose.

She was truly the epitome of a 'stunning beauty'.

In contrast, the girl who had been in this space from the beginning was petite, with a chest that wasn't emphasized, and an overall slender body. She had blonde hair in twin tails. However, her face was very well-proportioned in a different way from the 'stunning beauty'. Her eyes, which were provocative yet calm, as if they could see through everything, would easily captivate any man. The word 'little devil' seemed to suit this girl well. She was wearing a white coat like a researcher on Earth, and the shirt underneath was also peeking out because the front wasn't buttoned up. She was wearing a black, frilly miniskirt and black and white striped knee-high socks, which emphasized her long legs. Her clothing was overflowing with a 'little devil' feel.

"To call it tacky is harsh. That's quite a way to greet someone you haven't seen in a while, isn't it───Naritia?"

The girl, who was smoking something that looked like a cigarette, replied with a provocative smile.

Naritia, who had originally been frowning, furrowed her brow even more at that.

"It can't be helped, Goddess of Atrocity. Have you forgotten what you've done?"

"Of course, I've forgotten. The fun is always in the future. It's foolish to keep looking back."

"───!"

Naritia gritted her teeth as hard as she could. It seemed that she and this girl didn't get along at all.

"And stop calling me by that name. I have a name, you know. Viole."

"………"

"Are you ignoring me?"

The girl───Viole laughed merrily despite being ignored.

"So, what do you want, Goddess of Fertility?"

"………!"

Naritia's face twisted even further at Viole's words.

"What do I want………What do you mean what do I want? After causing all that trouble………is there any god who wouldn't detest you!? It's only natural to be wary of you, who destroyed the world entrusted to you by the Creator!"

Naritia shouted.

Viole sighed in response.

"Listen, you guys criticize me for going against the Creator's will, but in the end, I haven't been punished. The Creator commanded us to offer up the souls harvested from the world, not to manage the world. Considering that, it's self-evident that it would be better to kill a powerful world as a whole and offer it up. Why can't you accept that?"

"You wouldn't understand, would you, someone who can easily destroy what the Creator has created? But from our perspective, we don't understand your thinking."

"Sigh... It's bad to be so fixated on one thing. Or rather, if we're talking about good and evil, it's you who hasn't collected any souls at all."

"───!"

Naritia looked away and gritted her teeth as if she had been hit where it hurt.

That's right, the beings called Creator, who created countless worlds, commanded the one true God not to manage the numerous worlds, but to collect and offer up the life, the souls, that they had planted in the worlds. It was never about protecting them.

Souls served as a kind of food for them. That's why they had their servants, the one true Gods/Goddesses, collect them.

What the Creator had created───in other words, their possessions. The Goddess of Atrocity who destroys them is insane───that's what the true Gods/Goddesses say.

However, the Goddess of Atrocity has never actually angered the Creator. On the contrary, she was granted permission to be exempt from collecting souls because she offered up a world, a large and high-quality soul. The true meaning of that is unknown.

On the other hand, the Goddess of Fertility hasn't been able to collect souls for hundreds of years. In other words, she is going against the Creator's will.

Which is right? That is───

"I wish you would stop criticizing me if you understand. You should be respected for being the first to meet your quota."

"………That's not true."

Viole rolled her eyes in disbelief at Naritia, who didn't seem convinced even after being given a logical explanation.

"You... you've messed up my world countless times. You've upset the balance again and again... you've made those children unhappy... it's different when other Gods abhor you and when I abhor you. I simply hate you."

Despite the direct declaration of "dislike," Viole smiled.

"Hahaha! You're so gentle with others, but so harsh with me."

"………"

"Well, I don't mind being hated with such a pure emotion. In fact, I even prefer it compared to the other Gods who abhor me without any interaction."

"I shudder at the thought of you liking me. Besides, Yamato feels the same way about you. You took souls from his world arbitrarily."

"I personally don't like Yamato. It's fortunate for me that he hates me. Let's just let it go on."

Naritia looked at Viole with contempt at her statement that she would continue to do things that others hated.

"And the way you handle them is also wrong! The two people you brought this time───they were not supposed to die! They were supposed to survive, even though they were in a critical condition. And you...!"

"If it's a God who creates people, then it's also a God who kills people. I think I have the right to decide who dies."

"That's not the world you manage!"

Naritia raised her voice at Viole, who continued to make light statements. She was clearly being led by Viole's pace.

"In the forty years I've been away from managing the world while I investigated the cause of the failure to collect souls, you've sent three more reincarnations. Because of your repeated sending of reincarnations, how many times the world has almost tilted over? Just when we had finally... finally regained balance..."

"Peace and balance are boring. A story is only complete when there are incidents. In that sense, the two I sent this time are the best."

Even though Naritia was trembling with anger, Viole maintained her light tone. In fact, she chuckled, remembering the two she had sent───probably Kushina and Runa.

"[Grit: Indomitable Spirit]───I never thought there would be someone who could use that. I took a peek at his past life, but I never thought he would show no emotion even in the pain of 'death'. I thought that was impossible for a human being... This is what they call a pleasant surprise."

"………!"

"And the other one... oh, right, the other one, Naritia."

"...What is it?"

"Do you remember Elethea?"

"───!!!"

Naritia's expression changed completely at the mention of a certain person's name. After showing surprise, a shadow immediately fell over her face.

"Of course, I remember. That child was───"

"Yes, the one I created, the one you chose.."

Viole began to talk about the past nostalgically.

"Your first intervention in your world───the introduction of the [Primal Beast], the beginning of all life. I introduced the beasts to ravage your world, but you managed to give those beasts a minimum level of reason. I was jealous of you back then, you know?"

"I'm not happy about that."

"From there, you selected seven particularly intelligent individuals and gave them bodies like ours. They were the first-generation gods. But only six of them actually became first-generation Gods. So where did the one go?"

"………"

"That was pretty gruesome. I never thought that the beast you implanted reason would attack its own kind, even if their forms are different. Even I couldn't have imagined that."

"……………"

"Elethea, a human-shaped beast, was eaten by another beast. Even I was surprised by that."

"……………Why don't you just get to the point?"

Naritia indicated that she didn't want to hear anymore.

"Elethea's existence still remained in the world. And she assimilated with the other person I sent."

"───"

Naritia froze, as Viole's statement was too shocking.

"………Huh? What do you mean...?"

"Well, you should find it out yourself. I'm looking forward to what's to come. I'll take my time to enjoy it."

"───!"

Although Naritia would normally have been unable to ignore Viole's presence, she turned on her heel without saying anything to Viole. And she began to walk somewhere.

"What's wrong? You were looking for me, but you're just going to leave without saying anything?"

"………"

Normally, she would have left some kind of trap to prevent Viole from interfering in the world anymore.

However, she now had something more important to confirm. Naritia acted according to her priorities.

"Well, whatever. Just do your best, Naritia."

Naritia's figure disappeared.

Confirming that, Viole turned to face forward again and chuckled.

"Ah... I'm looking forward to it. I wonder how the story will unfold from here on, but please keep entertaining me to the best of your ability───Kushina, Runa."
