[WN] Hidden Reincarnated Hero : Chapter 1

■■■■■■■■■■

001 I was summoned, but I ended up reincarnated

■■■■■■■■■■

It was like a dream.

In a white space, I encountered a beautiful woman who seemed artificial, and I rejected her proposal.

"I won't go with them."

At my clear refusal, her expressionless face contorted.

"I'll send you somewhere else. Just make do with that."

"...Okay."

I thought there was no going against her will even if I refused, but it's worth a try.

Immediately, my consciousness faded.

Was that a dream or reality?

Looking at my current situation, I could somehow tell.

The surroundings were overgrown with trees, and there was no one around.

"A forest... I guess."

It was truly overgrown.

That god—probably a god—kept her promise.

But why does it have to be in the forest?

At my feet was a backpack—a rucksack.

Inside were hard bread, dried meat wrapped in leaves, a water bottle, a dagger, a blanket, a wooden cup, a wooden plate, a small towel, and a few other items.

In a brown leather pouch were what seemed to be gold coins, the currency of this world, but I had no idea how much they were worth.

"If I had known, I would have asked more about this world."

It was too late for regrets.

For now, there seemed to be money, so I guess I can get by for a while.

First, I'd have to find a village.

I wasn't enough of a survivor to live in a forest where there wasn't even a hint of civilization.

"Where am I, and which way should I go?"

I had no idea. So, I decided to go south.

"Even so, which way is south?"

A little sunlight filtered through the trees, so I figured there must be a star like the sun.

But would the sun rise in the east and set in the west, just like on Earth?

"No idea."

I stopped thinking about directions and decided which way to go with a branch that had fallen nearby.

I walked in the direction indicated by the branch, which had landed quietly on the grass.

"Ohh!"

Fortunately, I was able to get out of the forest quickly.

In front of the forest was a road, and the presence of few grasses and remaining ruts indicated that someone was using this path.

"The problem is whether to go right or left."

It was a crossroads of life. I thought hard but couldn't come to a conclusion.

"Should I ask the branch?"

I entrusted my luck again to the branch I had brought as a walking stick...

"Alright, let's go right."

As I walked right, I felt thirsty. I took out my water bottle from my rucksack, intending to drink, but there was no water in it.

"Come on, what's the point of this...?"

I thought it felt strangely light, but for it to be empty, the god was unkind.

Reluctantly, I kept going, and then I found a small bridge. It was a very simple wooden bridge with no handrails or fences, looking rather flimsy.

I stepped onto the bridge spanning a stream about three meters wide and stopped in the middle to look down at the stream. I could see small fish in the highly transparent water.

The presence of small fish meant it was drinkable. I crossed the bridge, went down a small step, and put my hand in the water. It was cold.

I lightly rinsed my hands, cupped them, and scooped up some water to drink. It was quite tasty water. If it didn't upset my stomach, it would be perfect. As I filled my water bottle and stood up, I suddenly noticed something off about my reflection in the water.

"Huh?"

Was that me reflected there? I hastily crouched down and looked at my face in the water.

I looked Western, with no trace of my former self. My semi-long hair was not white but silver. My eyes had also turned gold.

"Come to think of it, weren't my clothes a school uniform...?"

It only just occurred to me that my appearance had completely changed to that of a different person.

That god said that because a hero summoning ritual was performed, everyone in my class was summoned.

I thought it was a transfer because of the summoning, but it seemed I had possessed or reincarnated into a different body.

"They made me awfully cute..."

My appearance wasn't particularly striking before, but my current face was quite cute. It was like a girl's.

"Wait a minute!"

I checked what was between my legs.

"It's there~"

I thought for a moment I had turned into a girl, but it was definitely there.

However, my height, which was 175 centimeters, was probably less than 160 centimeters now. My physique was already delicate, but it felt even more so now. In terms of appearance alone, I was just like a flat-chested girl.

"To think my appearance would change this much... and so completely at that."

Was this a divine revelation to start over in this world?

In my original world, I had failed and was living a miserable high school life. I would take this as a chance to make a fresh start and live a fun life.

"I can't go back to my original world anyway. I have no choice but to start over in this one."

Once that was decided, I should think of a name.

I didn't dislike my old name, but it didn't suit this appearance.

"No need to think about it. My name is Toi. It's Toi."

The name of the character I created in my favorite MMORPG was Toi.

It was a shame I couldn't play that game anymore, but if I thought of it as the price for starting over in life, I could accept it.

"Alright, shall we go?"

As I continued along the road, a group of five horse-drawn carriages approached from behind.

"Ah... that can't be..."

I'm intensely moved right now!

Among that group of people on carriages and horses, there was a beast-eared girl!

I moved to the side of the road and stared intently at the beast-eared girl. I think she was a cat beastman, and her soft-looking triangular ears beckoned me.

My hands involuntarily twitched with excitement.

"What?! ...An elf?"

The woman with long, pointed ears was beautiful, like a work of art.

When I stared, she glared at me.

I loved this world.

Beast-ears, elves, maybe there were even more different races. Such a world of dreams existed. That god should have told me earlier!

The lingering emotion didn't disappear, but while I was immersed in sentiment, the group of carriages had gone quite far.

As I was about to continue along the road, I heard a commotion.

To my surprise, the group I had just seen was being attacked by someone.

"Seriously...? I can't fight, you know?"

But if I left them, the beast-eared girl and the beautiful elf might be killed.

"What should I do? How can I save the beast-eared girl and the beautiful elf?!"

Ping!

"Whoa?! ...Oh?"

A game-like screen appeared before my eyes.

When I tried to look behind it, the screen moved too.

"Hmph!"

I moved at high speed, but the screen followed. It seemed to stay at a fixed distance from me.

JobTraveler Lv1

SkillsStrong Legs (Minor)

Unique SkillsDetailed Appraisal (Minor), Item Box (Minor)

I figure this screen is what you'd call a status screen in a game.

Don't underestimate a gamer's brain. Mastering things like this is what gamers do.

"Detailed Appraisal!"

I appraised my Job.

Detailed Appraisal Result

Job: If certain conditions are met, you can change to a new job. Job changes can be performed by simply opening the status screen and willing it. Currently, available jobs for change are Villager, Cook, Merchant, Carrier, Avenger, and Reincarnated Hero.

As expected, Detailed Appraisal was a skill that told me many things.

Some unsettling jobs were included, but perhaps that was the karma I carried.

Leaving that aside, when I willed to use the Item Box, the screen switched.

A screen like the face of a Rubik's Cube appeared, with small squares gathered together.

It seemed items could be stored in the small squares. With 4 rows by 5 columns, it looked like 20 items could be stored.

The top 2 rows, 10 slots, were filled. That meant items were in there.

I used Detailed Appraisal on each item one by one, and as I looked, my cheeks relaxed into a smile.

"Uh, to equip these items..."

Above the Item Box screen, 8 quick-equip slots appeared.

You could set items for 8 locations: head, both ears, neck, torso, both arms, both legs, right hand, and left hand.

If you set items here, you could equip them just by willing it.

There were 3 types of swords, 2 types of shields, 2 types of breastplates, and 3 types of potions.

Simply put, the 3 types of swords were a very strong sword, a strong sword, and a normal sword. Without hesitation, I willed to set the very strong sword in the quick-equip slot.

One slot in the Item Box became empty, and the sword appeared in the quick-equip slot.

I tried to set the breastplate and shield in the quick-equip slot in the same way, but while the breastplate set easily, the shield did not.

"What's going on?"

Puzzled, I used Detailed Appraisal to find the cause.

"I see... Because the equipped sword is a two-handed sword, I can't hold a shield."

It made sense when I thought about it, but it was my first time, so these things happen.

"Oh, no. I was supposed to go help them."

I had forgotten my objective and gotten carried away verifying how to use the status screen.

Reflecting on this, I started running towards the commotion.
