[WN] Shut-In : Chapter 101

Chapter 101

Infiltration

Translator : PolterGlast

The darkness of the night is where dark magic excels.

It allows one to wrap oneself in darkness, assimilate with it, and jump into shadows to hide.

In this world, dark magic users aren't treated very well.

For example, even if you say you're good at dark attributes in the guild or among mages, you'll often get a bad look.

The need to blend into darkness and shadows is usually limited to doing shady things.

Espionage, assassination, and... peeping, I guess.

The fact that you can use dark magic implies that you've been doing something shady.

Such a seemingly reasonable but unreasonable argument is often used, and you're treated like a nuisance.

(It's convenient in times like this, though...)

I was currently alone, returning to the royal capital.

About a month and a half had passed, and the festive mood from conquering the dungeon had finally disappeared, and the city had regained its peace.

I used Jaunt to enter directly without going through checkpoints and was trying to infiltrate the royal castle.

As Miku had said, although there were many patrolling soldiers, there didn't seem to be anyone with the ability to sense mana or any wizards using Wind Search for reconnaissance.

Wind Search could only capture moving objects, so I had practiced staying still and entering shadows, but it seemed like it was all for nothing.

I didn't know because I had been using it so much, but apparently, very few people could use Wind Magic LV6.

Mana Perception was also special to Varietta-san, and apparently, very few people had it.

(There are quite a few blind spots... the security is lax...)

If you could use dark magic, even an amateur infiltrator like me could easily get through.

I still thought dark magic was useful.

It was true that it was easy to use for shady things, but there were very few spells that were actually useful outside of battle.

Apparently, the reason why dark magic users weren't in the spotlight was due to the influence of the Holy Scriptures.

Due to that influence, there was a kind of light magic supremacy in the kingdom.

You could use Shadow Dive to enter shadows where there was light, and Dark of the Moon to be enveloped in darkness where it was dark.

Using this dual-wielding technique, you could get deep inside with frightening ease.

First, I aimed for Mitsukawa-kun's room.

I had heard that private rooms were prepared for each hero in the royal palace, so I had to be careful not to enter Kazuma-kun's room by mistake.

I also had the main objective of talking to Mitsukawa-kun.

(But still... I never thought Miku knew the second princess)

Alicia von Grust... the girl Miku called Alice was apparently one of Miku's few female friends.

Miku, who was revered as a Saint, and Alicia, who was revered as royalty, hit it off immediately.

By the way, Miku was currently waiting in the [Home] so she could talk to her.

(Let's see... this was the heroes' private room, right?)

I went inside, remembering the floor plan I had been told.

Then, relying on the sound coming from inside, I identified Mitsukawa-kun's room and used Shadow Dive to slip into the door.

When I entered, I saw Mitsukawa-kun sitting with his arms crossed and a difficult expression.

When I entered, his eyebrows twitched.

Come to think of it, he had seen through me when I was in the shadows before.

He might have a skill like Mana Perception.

"--Who is it? No, this reaction... is it Kazuno?"

"Yeah, long time no see, Mitsukawa-kun."

When I stepped out of the shadows, I met Mitsukawa-kun's eyes.

He seemed to be nervous, which was rare for him.

At first, I thought he was overwhelmed by the difference in our abilities, but apparently, that wasn't the case.

"Miku... how is she?"

...I see, indeed, he hadn't come to see her because he was afraid of being found out.

They were apparently friends, so it was natural for him to be worried.

So, I tried to speak in a gentle tone to reassure him.

"--She's fine, she's alive. She's hiding her identity and traveling with me."
