[WN] Shut-In : Chapter 98

Chapter 98

Wyvern

Translator : PolterGlast

Miku and I headed to the Adventurer's Guild's reference room to check out information about wyverns.

Apparently, there are viewing restrictions based on rank, but fortunately, wyverns are quite famous, so we were able to view the documents without much difficulty.

"I see, so this is a flying dragon..."

Wyverns are B-rank monsters. They have claws strong enough to tear through steel, and their needle-like tails are coated with powerful poison.

They can even breathe their elemental breath from their mouths and possess a certain level of intelligence.

What's most dangerous is their ability to attack from the air while flying, making it a one-sided attack. Apparently, it took at least two platoons of the kingdom's knights to defeat them.

But honestly... I can take them down without any problems. A B-rank monster is equivalent to a Lich in terms of [Knight's Sacred Remains] monsters.

There's no way I, who can now defeat an Elder Lich with a mere flick of my wrist, would struggle against a mere group of wyverns.

"The problem is... the knights are stationed at the border..."

The Vero Knights, judging they couldn't defeat the wyverns with their current forces, were in the process of sending messengers to the capital requesting reinforcements.

The knights had stationed forces to monitor the border, anticipating the wyverns' arrival in Vero, and were currently blocking off the area to avoid unnecessarily provoking the wyverns.

Apparently, the Empire had also deployed troops, and both sides were cautiously watching, hoping the wyverns would just move to the other's territory.

"We could just ignore the wyverns and the knights and head straight to the Empire," Miku suggested.

Indeed, as Miku said, it was possible to slip past their watch and head to the Empire. Using dark magic to blend into the night, we wouldn't be spotted by either the knights or the wyverns.

"Ideally, I'd like to make that our last resort... Apparently, the logistics are being disrupted because of the wyverns. I may dislike the kingdom, but the people living here are innocent."

But if we do as Miku said, there's a possibility of damage to Vero if we ignore them. If we heard the news that Vero was destroyed after the wyverns went on a rampage after we reached the Elmore Holy Empire... I probably wouldn't be able to stay calm.

Besides, if we leave them alone, the wyverns might head towards the Elmore Holy Empire.

Since I have the power, I want to help. Ideally, in a way that doesn't attract too much attention...

"In that case, let's try to deal with it under the cover of darkness. Miku, can you wait for me at the inn?"

"…Okay, I understand."

Miku would provide an alibi that we were together at the inn. We need to have an excuse ready in case anything happens.

Seeing Miku looking a bit disappointed, I patted her head. After she became cheerful from the head pats, I cheerfully said goodbye and decided to take care of the wyverns.

After night fell, I left Miku at the inn and slipped out of the city. As the world was enveloped in the veil of night, the usefulness of dark magic skyrocketed.

The magic I used was [Dark of the Moon], which allows me to merge with the darkness.

Unlike [Shadow Dive], which allows me to enter shadows, this magic allows me to merge with the darkness itself.

Unlike [Smoke Curtain], which deploys a black smokescreen around me, this magic allows me to blend into the darkness without emitting anything.

Although it has the limitation of only being usable in dark places, it posed no problem for me moving at night. Using [Wind Search] and [Dark of the Moon], I decided to hide in the shadows and head towards the border area where the wyverns and the knights were.

Using [Night Vision], which I had learned at LV2, I didn't have to fear the darkness. I felt like I was on a stealth mission as I slipped through the knights' surveillance network.

I turned off [Wind Search] as a precaution before passing through their encampment, but... no alarm was triggered, and I was able to slip through smoothly.

Continuing further, I found them. About eight wyverns were there, eating while occasionally emitting flames from their mouths.

I wanted to take them down without making too much noise or light, to avoid alerting the knights who were camping a short distance away.

So, this time... I'll use my leveled-up dark magic to take them down.
