[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 120

Chapter 120

The sixth wave of the Demon King's Army was an Insect Army composed of insect-type monsters. It was clearly visible from above: the weaker monsters formed a single mass, while the relatively stronger monsters were positioned to compensate for the army's weaknesses.

The armies we fought previously also had solid formations, so it is certain that someone is issuing commands from the rear. We still haven't seen the leader of this army, but they are undoubtedly a monster close to the Demon King.

Incidentally... the main monsters of the sixth wave are three types: Ice Scissor, Evil Fly, and Armor Ant. The Venom Centipede is positioned to supplement these three types, and commanding this army is—a Parasite Matango.

The Parasite Matango is the only one that isn't an insect-type monster, but it is likely placed there because it can manipulate insect-type monsters with its spores. Since the insect monsters, who do not possess high intelligence, are keeping a solid formation, there is even a possibility that the Parasite Matango is already manipulating them.

As I observed the monsters from my high vantage point, the battle commenced, signaled by the attack of Salis, who was running at the vanguard. Despite having already retired as an adventurer to become a Guild Master, she truly has nerves of steel to take on the role of raid leader.

Even after attacking, she showed no sign of falling back, continuing to advance while slashing through monsters. As expected of a former S-Rank adventurer; for now, I cannot imagine her being defeated.

The other adventurers are also current S-Rank adventurers, and their morale is surprisingly high, so they are holding their own against the massive number of insect monsters. They are defeating monsters while following Salis in the lead, and it looks like they could manage even without my support... but I should do what I can.

After moving to a vantage point with an even better view, I took aim at the formidable Venom Centipede. Since people are crowded together, my only choice of magic is [Purifying Fire].

As for which spell within [Purifying Fire] to use... [Purifying Fire: Night Sparrow] would be optimal. I began chanting while building up my magic power.

Locking onto the target Venom Centipede, I unleashed [Purifying Fire: Night Sparrow]. Sparrows formed of Purifying Fire mixed with black took flight all at once, diving from the sky toward the Venom Centipede.

[Purifying Fire: Night Sparrow] possesses both mobility and numbers. Normal sparrows would be prey, but sparrows formed of Purifying Fire are the hunters.

The Venom Centipede noticed the approaching [Purifying Fire: Night Sparrow] and twisted its body in an attempt to counter—but it could not react to the sparrows charging at full speed without slowing down, and took a direct hit. It burst into flames from the point of impact, consumed by a fire that would not extinguish until death.

It was perfect, including the choice of Night Sparrow. The magic consumption is quite high, but I succeeded in burning to death most of the Venom Centipedes positioned in various locations, just as planned.

They are handling the three types—Ice Scissor, Evil Fly, and Armor Ant—without difficulty, so the only remaining threat is the Parasite Matango. I would like to burn the Parasite Matango to ash with [Purifying Fire] as well, but since it is manipulating insect monsters to form a wall, I cannot target it from this position.

If I use [Purifying Fire: Guardian Dog], I might manage to slip through... but considering the success rate, I shouldn't do it. The Demon King's Army is still lurking deeper in, so I want to keep unnecessary mana consumption to a minimum.

From here on, I will concentrate solely on sniping the Ice Scissor, Evil Fly, and Armor Ant with [Fire Arrow], and leave the Parasite Matango to the adventurers. With that decided, I simply need to clear my mind and shoot.

"It is truly amazing...! Even if you combine all of us fighting down here, Graham-san supporting from above is definitely defeating more monsters!"

"Not only that, but he's sniping the formidable enemies for us. We came in enthusiastic about letting Graham-san rest, but we end up being the ones constantly helped."

"There is no time to be depressed! The Parasite Matango in the back is the only thing that cannot be targeted from Graham's position! Unless we finish that thing off ourselves, we cannot claim to have repelled the sixth wave!"

It was Salis who called out, tightening the adventurers' loosening resolve once more. However, even Salis did not know the correct way to break through their defenses, and it was clearer than day that charging in head-on would only increase damages.

That is how powerful the Parasite Matango is—a troublesome monster with a recommended subjugation rank of S. It manipulates nearby monsters at will and attacks humans using poisonous spores.

On top of that, its raw combat ability is high. In this situation, which could be called the Parasite Matango's unrivaled domain, it is obvious that it will be a severe battle even for a group of S-Rank adventurers. In this situation where we were blocked on all sides—the one who raised his hand was Julian of the White Phoenix.

"I will charge in as a suicide squad, prepared to blow myself up. Since I am capable of dying, I am the suitable one—right?"

"...May I entrust this to you, Julian?"

"Yes, it will be fine. Inspired by my battle with Graham-san, I came up with an interesting way to use my power, so please look forward to it."

Julian laughed as he said that, exchanged a few words with the members of the White Phoenix, and then—charged straight into the mass of monsters formed by the Parasite Matango. Not wanting to fall behind, Salis and the others followed slightly behind Julian, who was running at the vanguard, and headed toward the Parasite Matango.
