[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 127

Chapter 127

A Slightly Embarrassing Welcome

Translator : PolterGlast

Walking through the massive number of monster corpses, we headed toward the high ground where Salis and the others were waiting. Everyone greeted us by waving their hands vigorously. Seeing this spectacle, I somehow recalled Fuuro Village, and while feeling a little embarrassed, I called out to Salis.

"We successfully annihilated the Demon King's Army. There are no other reactions, so I believe we have defeated them all."

"Graham...! Thank you, truly! You three are the heroes who saved the Royal Capital!"

"No, no! The amazing one was only Graham-san; we were just watching from behind!"

"No, all three of you were amazing! When I heard that a monster army of over a thousand was attacking, I predicted that there would be nearly a thousand casualties on our side. Yet... not only are there zero deaths, there isn't even a single injured person! I must spend my whole life making it up to the three of you!"

Salis seemed to be experiencing a mix of excitement and guilt, resulting in some strange emotions. Since there weren't any particularly impressive monsters, I hadn't considered it that grave a situation, and in reality, we were able to defeat them easily. I felt that being thanked to this extent was unnecessary, but being humble here would only dampen the mood, so I decided to accept it honestly.

"You don't need to take it so seriously. You showed us around the Royal Capital, Salis, and treated us well. If you insist on thanking us... then help us when we are in some kind of trouble."

"Of course I will help! Aside from that, there are various other—"

"I really don't need anything else. You said you'd give me items before this commotion started, so just consider this as thanks for that."

"............Graham, you truly are a hero."

"I'm not such a grand person. I'm just an old man who just came out of the countryside."

At my remark, voices of admiration rose from the adventurers listening behind Salis, making me feel even more embarrassed. It wasn't humility; I have human desires, and I really am just an old man who is slightly stronger than those around me.

Everyone in Fuuro Village viewed me as a hero too, but I just happened to be strong, and just like this time, everyone fought together. In my mind, it's the same thing; I just happened to defeat more monsters. Because of that, the atmosphere became embarrassing, so I decided to bring up Guanza to change the subject.

"By the way, did you see that Guanza was leading the Demon King's Army?"

"—Hah? G-Guanza was... the Demon King's Army?! I-I'm sorry. I didn't see it, but... is that tr—"

Having spoken that far, Salis seemed to notice Guanza, who had fainted and was placed on a board. Ginia, who had been pulling the board, stepped forward and brought the unconscious and motionless Guanza in front of Salis.

"It-It really is Guanza...! Even though he is a Guild Master, do you mean to say he defected to the Demon King's Army...?"

"No, strictly speaking, it would be more accurate to say he was being controlled. The Demon manipulating Guanza was the one commanding the Demon King's Army, and basically, I just took down the Demon that was pulling the strings."

"I-I see... It is good that he didn't betray us, but to think Guanza, a Guild Master, was targeted... Anyway, we must investigate immediately! I would like Guanza to wake up, but—"

"That's probably impossible. He isn't dead, but I think it will take time for him to wake up. We tried splashing water on his face, but there was no sign of him waking up at all."

"I see... I am sorry for everything. And, thank you for saving Guanza without killing him."

Salis bowed deeply once again. Looking at Salis and the Guild Master, I strongly felt that being a Guild Master is truly a difficult job.

"It isn't something you need to apologize for, Salis. Actually, Guanza seemed to have made some kind of deal with the Demon, so the ones at fault are Guanza, who made a deal with the Demon, and the Demon that attacked."

"Even if he didn't betray us, a deal with a Demon... I need to hear the details from Guanza."

"It would be helpful if you did. So, what will you do after this? We are pretty tired, so we would like to return to the Royal Capital immediately... but if there is something to do, we will help."

"No, Graham and the others can return to the Royal Capital. We can handle the cleanup ourselves, and reinforcements from the Royal Capital will be arriving soon. We will definitely have enough hands, so it's fine."

"I see. In that case, we will return a step ahead."

"Yeah, thank you again, truly! I will never forget this debt for my whole life!"

Raising one hand to answer Salis, who conveyed her thanks for I don't know how many times now, we decided to return to the Royal Capital first. Both Ginia and Aoi seemed exhausted, so we would likely rest in the Royal Capital for a few days before returning to Biodasdal. I was also worried about Ria, Tricia, and Maud, whom we left waiting in the Royal Capital, so for now, let's head back early.
