Chapter 165
Idol-like Popularity
Translator : PolterGlast
We asked around town about the Crimson Rose, and we
were able to gather information much more easily than I had anticipated. In the
city of Klingark, they enjoyed popularity akin to idols, and since they
were also positioned at the very top in terms of ability, every single person
we asked knew of them. Thanks to their high profile, information came together
quickly.
"So, to summarize the information: they are out of the
city fulfilling requests until the evening, and after the evening, they can
usually be found at a shop called Anchelt. Is that correct?"
"I think that's correct. Everyone we asked said the
same thing. Still... becoming famous really is tough. It means your every move
is being watched."
"Totally! You did say there are weirdos like stalkers
out there! I had a vague desire to become famous, but if it means being
followed by creeps, I think I'm better off staying carefree like I am
now!"
"Staying like you are now is definitely better. So,
let's try to remain as inconspicuous as possible."
"No, no! The only one who needs to be careful about
standing out is you, Graham!"
"Agreed. Even if we tried to stand out, we wouldn't be
able to, so you are the only one who needs to be careful, Graham-san."
That was certainly true, but... the
two of them had been gaining strength recently, and they were top-class talents
within Biodasdal.
"No, simply being beautiful young female adventurers
draws attention, and you two are gaining real skill. Your name recognition is normally
higher than mine."
"B-Beautiful?! Am I beautiful?"
"Graham-san, please don't praise us like that!
You won't get anything out of it!"
I warned them quite seriously, but the two of them just
blushed and didn't give a proper reply. Letting out a light sigh, I paid no
mind to the two who were in such high spirits and arrived at Anchelt.
It was still just past noon, so the Crimson Rose
wouldn't be here, but I wanted to ask the owner beforehand. I confirmed that
they were open for business before entering Anchelt.
"Welcome. Is it for three?"
"No, actually, I came to ask something. Would you mind
if I had a word?"
"A word... Is it about the Crimson Rose?"
"Yeah, exactly. I wanted to ask if they frequent this
shop—"
"I’m sorry, but I cannot answer that. I have a duty of
confidentiality."
The owner refused flatly with a strong will. Judging by his
reaction, perhaps many people besides us come visiting in search of the Crimson
Rose.
From this vibe, no matter how much I persisted, he wouldn't
tell me. In that case, it would likely go smoother if I simply stated my
business and withdrew immediately.
"Understood. In that case, I have a message I’d like to
ask you to pass on to the Crimson Rose. Please just tell them that 'the
one-armed middle-aged man who fought in the Royal Capital' came to visit."
"I'll tell you in advance, I won't answer whether they
come here or not."
"That doesn't matter. But if they do come, please make
sure to tell them. I'm counting on you."
After emphasizing that to the stubborn owner, I left Anchelt.
I'm not sure if it's a good shop by my standards, but from the perspective of Crimson
Rose, it must feel like a godsend. That
must be why they favor this place.
"The Crimson Rose was a bust too, huh. If we
could meet them directly, I'm sure they'd give us information..."
"If that shop owner passes on the message, it might
work out, right? I don't know for sure though!"
"We have no choice but to believe that and visit again
later. Until then... we have free time, so shall we look around the city of Klingark?"
"Yay! With the plague spreading, I thought we wouldn't
be able to look around the city this time, so I'm excited!"
"Please be very careful not to catch the
sickness."
"I'll make sure to wash my hands and gargle
properly!"
We decided to spend the time until nightfall exploring the
city of Klingark. We
couldn't exactly cut loose, but I at least wanted
to scout out some potential souvenirs to buy on our way back.
Avoiding the crowds, we spent about five hours touring the
streets of Klingark. We managed to kill time nicely, and the area had
grown completely dark.
"Phew, that was fun! The cityscape was different, but
the things they sold were all unique too!"
"It was a shame we couldn't look around the main
street, but it might have been better that we saw the backstreets; we
surprisingly got to see the unique characteristics of this city."
"True. We've figured out what to get for souvenirs, so
let's head back to Anchelt soon."
"I wonder if the shop owner properly passed on the
message?"
"That, I don't know. Even if he didn't, I'm hungry, so
let's eat at Anchelt before going back."
"Sounds good! That shop looked delicious!"
With that decided, we retraced our steps and headed for Anchelt.
If this didn't work, I intended to give up and gather information via a
different route.
That said, right now I didn't even know how to go about gathering information, so I really wanted the message to have reached the Crimson Rose. Hoping in my heart, we entered Anchelt for the second time today.
