[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 244

Chapter 244

Division of Roles

Translator : PolterGlast

It seems they decided to start by observing the situation. They threw stones from a distance and poked it with a long stick, but the Rock Tortoise showed absolutely no reaction. As expected, it seems it has no intention of moving at all unless someone steps into its territory. Although sturdy, perhaps because it carries a shell that is too heavy, the enemy doesn't move at all.

If it were me, I should be able to finish it off in one strike with gravity magic. No, even without going out of my way to use gravity magic, I just need to chip away at it with magic attacks. As I was thinking about how I would defeat it, it seemed the two of them had also decided on a strategy.

Aoi would step into the Rock Tortoise's territory, and Ginia would attack when it showed its face. It's a simple strategy, but I think luring it out is an effective plan.

Well then, here I go! Ginia, counting on you!

Leave it to me. I will slash it the moment it shows its face.

After doing some light warm-up exercises, Aoi began to edge closer with shuffling steps. She should have gotten quite close, but the Rock Tortoise didn't show any intention of attacking. Is that rock really a Rock Tortoise?

It was to the point that even I, who had confidently asserted it, began to doubt, but the moment Aoi got close—it stuck its body out from the giant shell and bit at her. It was at a considerable speed, but Aoi evaded the biting attack by a hair's breadth. Although the initial attack was fast enough to close the distance instantly, Aoi's movement speed was overwhelmingly faster. Although it showed signs of chasing her, Aoi quickly managed to escape completely outside its territory.

And, as if switching places with the fleeing Aoi, Ginia launched an attack from its blind spot, but... the Rock Tortoise dove inside its shell before the sword could reach it. Although its movement speed is slow, the movement of the main body itself is quite fast.

It had holed itself up, and I thought we were back to square one, but the Rock Tortoise, shut inside its shell, began to spin. The shell looks heavy by appearance, but it seems to be an unexpectedly light material. It charged right at Ginia while continuing to spin round and round.

Ginia excels at counters, but as expected, attacks won't pass through the shell. Perhaps disliking the idea of chipping her blade, she chose the option of fleeing without even attempting to attack the shell.

So it can attack while holed up. It's more troublesome than I thought.

The spinning attack is surprisingly fast, too! Ginia, do your best and run!

I don't know how it was tracking her, but it kept chasing Ginia while spinning, and the Rock Tortoise's movements finally stopped only when she escaped to a high place. It seems she has bad affinity with the Rock Tortoise, which has a high sense of defense, and so far, they haven't meshed at all.

It holes up immediately, so it's not fun fighting it at all!

We'll slowly be worn down if it keeps doing spinning attacks while holed up in its shell.

What will you do? Shall I defeat it?

Wait! Let us do it just a little bit longer! I'll absolutely smash that shell!

It didn't seem like it would be much of a learning experience for the two of them, so I proposed defeating it, but Aoi answered like that while swinging her arms around in circles. It would be fine as long as she doesn't make any reckless attacks, but judging from that vibe, she probably intends to use Limit Release.

Aoi, can you adjust it? If you get injured, it'll be days of house-sitting again, you know.

I'm fine! I'll adjust it, and take my time defeating it!

Aoi approached the Rock Tortoise from behind as it waited right below Ginia, who had escaped to a high place. Perhaps because she had already grasped its speed, she approached with light steps, lowered her hips, and readied her fist.

Now, come on!

Reacting to Aoi's voice, it peeked its face out slightly to check its rear, then the Rock Tortoise began spinning again. Aoi's fist versus the Rock Tortoise's shell. Looking at the composition, I thought it would become a showdown of spear and shield, but... Aoi was calm.

Evading the charging, spinning Rock Tortoise by jumping over it, she aimed for the momentary opening when its movements dulled slightly as it tried to track her, and unleashed a thrust. The Rock Tortoise's shell didn't shatter, nor did Aoi show any signs of hurting her fist. It was plain if you called it plain, but it was also proof that she punched with properly adjusted power.

From there, time simply passed with Aoi displaying magnificent evasions just like a matador, unleashing thrusts only in the brief moments its movements stopped. I intended to have her pull back if it seemed like she was being slowly worn down like this, but suddenly Aoi shouted toward Ginia.

Ginia! Put a counter into the area around its head! I'm just guessing, but it's become brittle, so I think you can break it in one go!

The area around its head, right. Understood. Let's switch.

It seems Aoi had been attacking while aiming only at the exact same spot, and a part of the shell had already become brittle. As far as I could see, there wasn't even a crack, but it's likely a sensation that only Aoi, who is fighting it, would understand.

Ginia, who stepped forward as if to switch with the breathless Aoi, slowly readied her sword. Seeming to know the exact spot to aim for, Ginia took careful aim with a calm demeanor. The Rock Tortoise, completely unaware that it was being targeted, launched a spin attack against Ginia who had stepped forward in Aoi's place as well, but...

For Ginia, who has excellent eyesight and had furthermore been observing the battle with Aoi, it was nothing more than an easy target. Matching the movements of the Rock Tortoise spinning at high speed, she pinpointed a counter thrust right into it. Although it had no cracks and still looked incredibly sturdy, the shell magnificently collapsed from the single blow of Ginia's thrust.

With the shell gone, what emerged from inside was the Rock Tortoise's main body, which looked like a lizard. Although it didn't let up its attacks, moving agilely and without regard for appearances, without the shell that repelled blades, it was no match for Ginia.

After being slashed deeply several times, its abdomen was cut the moment it turned its back to flee, and the Rock Tortoise slowly breathed its last. The affinity was the worst, but with a perfect division of roles, they managed to brilliantly defeat it.
