Chapter 264
A Token of Gratitude

After meeting up with Spencer and the others who had
finished their confirmation, we returned to Flimble. It seems the
misunderstanding has been completely resolved, and having them understand our
power is a big deal. I wondered what would happen for a moment, but as a
result, it was a good thing the monster army attacked at this timing. If things
had gone differently, the city of Flimble might have suffered damage,
after all.
「Sorry to have you drop by before
heading back. Let me formally thank you again for this incident. You truly
saved us.」
Having been called by Spencer, we came to the Guild
Master's office, but he bowed his head the moment we entered the room. We've
already been thanked extensively, so we really don't need any more words of
gratitude, though.
「You don't need to thank us anymore.
We also owed you a favor for cooperating with our proposal, after all.」
「It's exactly as Graham-san
says. Since we are in a cooperative relationship, it's only natural to help. In
the first place, even though it's another country, we would have helped if
danger was approaching. ...Well, I didn't actually do anything, though.」
「Even so, no matter how much I thank
you for this incident, I can't fully convey my gratitude. The quality and
number of the monsters were clearly several levels higher than before, after
all.」
Looking at everyone's reactions, I got that feeling too. In
reality, I think the monsters were quite a formidable bunch. That being said,
because there was no clear leader commanding the army, I was able to easily
annihilate them this time, though.
「I think the timing was good. If the
day we visited or the day we returned had been off, I wouldn't have been able
to participate in the battle, after all.」
「The Demon King's Army side
must have launched an offensive at what they thought was the perfect timing, so
aren't they probably panicking right about now after being so easily
annihilated?」
「I don't know about that, but there's
no mistake we were saved by the timing. Graham, truly, thank you.」
Even though I said it was already fine, Spencer
immediately bowed his head again. It would probably be useless to say any more,
so without reacting to it, I decided to ask a question.
「More importantly, did you find out
where the monsters came from?」
「Yeah. A place like a secret passage
had been created near the border. It seems they advanced from there this time.」
「A secret passage? The fact that that
many monsters came through means it must have been a considerably large one,
right?」
「I think it's probably a large secret
passage. Right now, we've only blocked the entrance and deployed soldiers
there, so we haven't been able to conduct a detailed investigation. After we
organize our structure, I'll send a letter to Dwayne as soon as the
investigation is complete.」
So it wasn't a warp gate or magic, but simply a secret

report from Spencer, I will convey it to you, Graham-san. With
that said, we'll be taking our leave for this time.」

prepare anything grand, but I had some tokens of gratitude prepared.」
Stopping the Guild Master and me as we were about to leave,
he slowly brought out a large sack that had been placed behind him. I don't
know what's inside, but the only thing I know for sure is that he definitely
prepared a massive amount of reward items for us.
「Hey, Spencer. Just what did
you prepare for us?」
「First are the materials from the
monsters you subjugated. We harvested them on our end and bundled together the
highly valuable ones. Also, I put in a phantom liquor. It's Dwayne's
favorite, right?」
「Phantom liquor... does that mean
it's 『Chevalier
Conte』!?」
「Is it that famous of a liquor?」
「Yeah! It's a rare and expensive
liquor said to be worth enough to build a house with just one bottle!」
The Guild Master is unusually excited. Since he's usually
calm outside of the times I show my power, it must be an exceptionally rare
liquor.
「Because we were saved by Graham,
after all. The 『Chevalier

token of gratitude. I also packed some other things that seem to have value.
Try checking it out after you return to the city.」
「Thank you. I'll accept them without
reserve.」
「Ah, and also. Our Soldier Leader
said he's going to Biodasdal. He will likely visit soon, so I'd
appreciate it if you could welcome him.」
「That understanding soldier? Of
course we'll welcome him. After receiving a phantom liquor, I can't exactly
refuse.」
The Guild Master is hugging the phantom liquor, looking like
he has no intention of letting it go. I don't drink much alcohol, but seeing
his eye color change this much makes me curious about it.
「Well then, let's cooperate from here
on out. Graham, if something happens, help us out again.」
「Of course. If you request it, I'll
come to help.」
「That's reassuring.」
After exchanging a handshake with Spencer, I grabbed the sack he had prepared and left the Guild Master's office for real this time. Although we got dragged into an unexpectedly large commotion, it was good that we were able to resolve it without a single injured person.
