・The One Who Was a Burning Demon
A few years ago, my house caught fire and burned down. My
father and mother, my younger sister, and my younger brother who was only five,
all met a tragic end, burning to death. But that day, I had gone out to play
with my friends, away from the town of Enes. Taking on simple jobs in
the city, I returned to my hometown about half a month later.
My house was no longer there. Or rather, far from just that,
the folks from the Knight Order came and began treating me as the culprit. They
threw me in jail, asking why I had disappeared for half a month, and hurled
countless abusive words at me.
There was a person who extended a hand to me in that
situation. It was the Knight-sama who governed this town as his territory. He
said this: The true culprit won't be found. Because no one is searching for
them. The townspeople are convinced that you are the culprit. So why not accept
the crime for now. I will negotiate with the Knight Order so that you can be
granted a pardon, he said.
I took the Knight-sama's proposal, deciding to receive the
pardon first, and then begin my revenge. But, the pardon was not granted. The
knight hadn't even negotiated with the higher-ups.
And this is something I learned later. That knight's son
apparently had an unrequited, illicit love for my younger sister. But my sister
already had a partner. Therefore, my sister could not accept his confession.
The day after my sister rejected his confession, my house burned down.
I was deceived. To protect his own son, the knight deceived
me and made me confess to the crime. That's why a pardon wouldn't be granted.
There was no way it would be granted. Inside the town's prison, I almost went
mad. The townspeople hurled every abusive word possible at me, and no matter
what I said, they wouldn't believe me. I can't take anything back anymore.
Hatred and despair changed even my personality.
However, one such day, a strange thing grew inside the
prison. It was a small white stake... While truly ominous, possessing a faint
light, it looked beautifully shining in the dark prison.
「A burning demon, is it...?」
「That's right... If possible, I want
to become a burning demon and burn them to death...」
「So that's why a burning demon. I
see, a form truly fitting for the current you.」
Was it two days after that? A white knight appeared inside
the prison. I spat out all of my hatred to him. Then, he said he would grant my
wish. Without hesitation, I wished for revenge. That guy said he came from the
Abyss. He said that the Abyss was a world that turned even gods into mad monsters.

「Please. Turn me into a monster of
the Abyss...」
「That is exactly what I was hoping
for. Oh pitiful spirit of revenge, turn that hatred into hellfire. And become
an incarnation of flames, and fulfill your final wish.」
From then on, I was a beast without reason. Using my own
body to burn down the knight, his son, and the knight's mansion, I stopped
thinking. The last thing I saw was a Valkyrie with black horns. The brave her
pushed me, blazing with hatred, down into the cold bottom of the water, and
ended me.
I had been troubled for a long time because I couldn't die.
I was saved. Thank you. Having accomplished my revenge, I no longer have any
lingering attachments to this world. Being able to see such a beautiful
Valkyrie at the very end, I am happy.
