[WN] Three Skills : Volume 1 Chapter 12

Volume 1

Chapter 12

I Found a Guild

Translator : PolterGlast

"Let's go to the guild first."

"Guild?"

After putting Kakyoin-san down on the ground, she said that.

"Don't you know? I thought it would be easier to understand if I used a word that often appears in games."

"Umm... I haven't played many games..."

"I see. Then, think of it as a place where hunters who hunt beasts gather. It's a place where hunters who hunt beasts in the forest gather to sell their pelts and meat."

"Hee~, so a guild is a place like that."

"Well, the name isn't necessarily Guild, but I'm just saying that we'll look for such a place first."

"I see, got it."

Kakyoin-san starts walking.

"………By the way, do you know why we're going to the guild?"

"………To exchange this?"

I pointed to the three drawstring bags wrapped around my waist.

"Yes, exactly. You do understand."

Kakyoin-san resumed walking with a cheerful expression.

I followed her from behind.

Runa's POV

After entering the town, we walked around looking at our surroundings.

The atmosphere of the town felt like a Western town from a bygone era. Houses made of brick and wood were prominent—in fact, most of them were.

There were signs with illustrations indicating the type of shop attached to the top of the buildings that seemed to be shops. Under the illustrations, it probably says what kind of shop it is, but... I can't read it.

My biggest concern was the language difference. If we can't communicate, it will be a problem before we even start talking or negotiating. In that case, we won't be able to exchange anything.

So, I was hoping we would speak the same language here... but reality isn't that kind. What should I do?

Then, I noticed Kushina behind me.

He was looking around curiously.

"……Kushina, don't look around like that."

"Eh? Oh, um, okay."

"Good grief... Walk more confidently. Now that you've become my attendant, you have to be firm. If you're so timid, people will think of me that way too."

I understand that this is unusual. But if we're underestimated in an unfamiliar place, it's over. If that happens, we'll always be looked down upon. I don't want that to happen. So, we have to be confident. ...Well, I won't tell Kushina that because he won't understand.

We sure stand out, don't we? Almost everyone, male and female, is whispering while looking at us.

Well, I can pretty much guess what they're talking about. It must be the clothes.

The clothes of the people in this town aren't very good, to put it politely. Rough knitting, simple materials, and designs—it's as if they don't know anything about clothes.

So, even if it's a uniform, it's synonymous with fine clothing for the people of this town, so they probably can't help but look at it curiously.

I don't really like being whispered about, but... well, thanks to that, I've lost my worries.

Just then, I saw a building ahead. That must be the guild. As proof, I saw men who looked tough going inside.

I go up to the building. Kushina, who is following me from behind, looks up at the building and says, "Oh..."

"Kushina, open it."

"Eh? Okay."

Slightly bewildered, Kushina opens one side of the double wooden door.

"Thanks."

I went inside the building.

………It's noisy. That was the first impression I had when I went inside.

Apparently, this building is also a tavern, and most of the men are making a racket, drinking beer poured into wooden cups, and eating the food that was brought to them. It lacked elegance more than anything else.

I look around. About 70% of the building is a tavern, there's a board with something written on it in the far left corner as we enter, and there are many counters lined up along the wall. There is always at least one woman sitting at each counter, wearing what looks like a uniform here.

Well, it's pretty much the same as a typical hunting guild in a game.

I lined up with people carrying animal pelts and bags full of herbs───

"Oh my, what a new face we have here. Are you new?"

"………"

A strange man accosted me as I was about to join the line.

"What a fine outfit you have. Are you perhaps a rich young lady? This isn't a place for fooling around. Get out before you get hurt, hahaha!!"

The man and the two behind him started laughing loudly. ...I don't understand. What's so funny? He has no manners at all. What a vulgar man.

"If you insist... Oh! You're quite a beauty! Alright, I get it. Then, we'll teach you firsthand what it means to be an adventurer! Alright!?"

"Oh, seriously. She's really pretty, isn't she?"

"Hahaha! Yeah! We veterans will teach you everything, young lady!"

...Ugh, so annoying.

"Kushina."

"..."

"………? Kushina?"

"Huh? What is it?"

"Good grief... Behave yourself. Now, move these people aside with just enough force to not kill them."

"Got it."

Kushina, who seemed surprised by something, quickly regained his composure and stood in front of me.

"Huh? What's the matter, kid? Trying to impress her? You better stop. Who do you think we are───"

"Excuse me."

Kushina grabbed the man's collar and threw him towards the edge of the building.

Crash!

The man crashed face-first into the shadow of the building. He slid down and fell heavily to the floor.

"Wha!?"

"You bastard!"

The remaining two showed expressions of surprise and anger, but Kushina grabbed the collars of both men with one hand each and threw them towards the wall as well.

Thud!! Thud!!

"Nn, thanks, Kushina."

I said so, brushing my hair.

"………"

Kushina just remained silent, as if deep in thought.

"Kushina?"

"Eh? Ah, sorry, Kakyoin-san."

"What, what's wrong?"

"Well, umm, right. Those people, they were speaking Japanese fluently..."

"Ah, now that you mention it."

Come to think of it, Kushina was looking around the town curiously a while ago. Of course, he must have seen rows of characters he couldn't read at all. Apparently, Kushina thought that they couldn't communicate here.

But I didn't think so. If I concentrate on the voices I hear in the town, I can understand quite a bit.

"As you can see. Even though the characters they use are different, the pronunciation and meaning of the words are not so different. You don't need to think that deeply, Kushina."

"Alright, understood."

After hearing that reply, I turned my back on Kushina and resumed walking towards the line I was about to join.
