Volume 1

Chapter 48

Fell Into a Trap

Translator : PolterGlast

Tekiru's POV

"Well done, Tekiru," said Faith-san, the veteran adventurer, a rank 5 and a long-time acquaintance, as we returned to the blast site after successfully luring Kushina-cchi into our trap.

"But what's up with your acting, anyway? You're as good as an actor... no, even better!"

"Really? I was confident that I was doing reasonably well, but not that good, though?"

"Come on, I'm complimenting you, so just take it."

Faith-san peered at me with a questioning expression at my vague answer. But, sorry to say, I was a bit surprised and not really paying attention.

"Well, yeah... I guess you could say that. It worked out so well, it's almost anticlimactic..."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"Well, you see, I messed up once in the ruins. So I thought he might be a little wary, and I prepared for all sorts of things... but it turned out I didn't need to... Maybe the mental interference worked better than I thought?"

Mental interference—one of the items a certain man gave me was a magic item (a ring) with such a spell embedded in it.

Apparently, this ring could interfere with the minds of targets within a five-meter radius of the wearer and manipulate them.

Although it seems like a powerful item, it can be easily defended against by those proficient in magic. By strengthening their magic resistance or simply having a high innate magic resistance, mental interference can be prevented. It's that delicate of a magic.

But in Kushina-cchi's case, the result was different.

Kushina-cchi doesn't have an exceptionally high magic resistance. So, the mental interference should have worked on him.

But because of his robust physique and distorted mindset, he seemed to be almost resisting it.

We thought that status ailments wouldn't work well on him, but maybe we were wrong.

Kushina-cchi's resistance to mental interference wasn't through legitimate means. It was more like brute force. That's why, maybe the effect of the mental interference was distorted but still affected him.

If so, it was worth it to keep trying.

"Seriously? I'd already given up on that kind of stuff."

"I don't know. It's just a possibility, a possibility. Either way, I'm glad it worked out."

"Indeed."

We turned our gaze to the spot where the explosion occurred.

There was a pitfall there, but we had used a magic item to move the sand and bury it after the explosion, so it was already neatly buried.

"Still, he's really a monster, isn't he? We even packed the bomb with fragments of Altaina ore, said to be the hardest material in the world, and he only lost a little skin and both legs."

Faith-san looked at the fragments of Altaina ore scattered around the ground, still amazed.

"It's the other way around, we should consider ourselves lucky that we were able to take both of his legs. Kushina-cchi is a man who survived the ruins where they say everyone who enters dies. We can't underestimate his abilities."

That's right, Kushina-chi had survived that ruins where it was said that anyone who entered would surely die. His abilities were completely unknown, so we shouldn't underestimate him.

"Ha! What a weird guy. Maybe he's still alive even after being buried alive."

"He might actually be alive."

"Hey, hey... don't say scary things."

"No, no, I'm pretty serious. But don't worry."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

Faith-san tilted his head.

"Can Faith-san move with all his strength while being completely immobilized?"

"Haa? Well, that's obviously difficult... Ah, I see."

Faith-san realized what I meant and nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, even if he's alive, Kushina-cchi is now immobilized by a large amount of sand. Even Kushina-cchi, with all his strength, couldn't exert even twenty percent of his power while buried alive. In other words, even if he's alive, it's impossible for him to escape from here."

I glanced at the spot where the pitfall was and then turned towards the direction of the town.

"Let's go, Faith-san. Let's move on with the plan. There's no point in wasting time here."

"………Alright. Today is the day they pay for everything they've done."

Faith-san responded to my serious words with a serious response.

Magic Item

A magic item is created by applying a mechanism called a spell to allow someone who can handle magic to induce the same phenomenon in others without any conditions, allowing others to use pseudo-magic. Spells vary, and the phenomenon that occurs depends on the spell applied.
