Chapter 38

Trot, trot, trot,
trot...
"So, where did
you come from?"
"Cloudy... no,
Leyshan."
"Huh? You came
all the way across the sea? That must have been a long journey."
Yeah, well.
Listening to Lotus'
slow reply to the coachman's words, I stretched out as much as I could.
Trot-trot, the sound of the horse's hooves hitting the ground. In the rattling
carriage, I watched the straight road recede.
"That girl...
she's not your daughter, is she? Your younger sister?"
"No, she's not.
That girl is---"
Plop, I collapsed into
the straw. My cheeks prickled, but I stretched out both arms.
"Uwaah..." Lotus' and the others' voices grew smaller and gradually
faded away. The sky was surprisingly blue. The occasional clouds were thin and
swam slowly in the wind.
"The sky is so...
bluuue..."
The words I muttered
were swallowed by the vast sky. The road stretched straight ahead, endlessly.
Dust was dancing in the distance. The contents of the straw rustled. Pop, pop.
Since Lotus was talking to the coachman, I figured it was okay, and Ichi and
the others were going in and out of the straw, playing happily.
"Don't be too
rough, okay?"
I whispered quietly. I
heard a "We know," in reply, but it couldn't be helped that everyone
was getting excited. After all, Ichi and the others were born in Cloudy
Country, where the sky was always cloudy. Then came Leyshan. It rained all year
round, and with the fickle rain, you never knew when you'd see the sky.
So, this incredibly
blue sky was probably a first for them, and the fluffy straw was endlessly fun.
Even though I had memories of the past, this was the first time I had seen such
a vast, blue sky as El, so I felt a sense of excitement.
--The eternal summer country,
Soleil.
Almost a year had
passed since I met Elma. Lotus and I had stepped into a new country.
***
Lipieth Year 13.
In this world, a new
calendar year is added each time the king changes. Three years had passed since
Lotus and I met in this world. This world was the world of an otome game called
"The Tale of the Land of Five Leaves." What a coincidence it was, I,
who was just a player of the game, had been reborn as Eldorado, the ultimate
seductive witch and an enemy character.
Eldorado should have
certainly been human, but one day she became a demon. That meant being banished
from the village.
Demons all possessed
unique abilities that humans didn't have, and with bright red eyes and wings on
their backs, they could fly anywhere. Since I was terribly bad at Flight skill,
I could only fly to the extent of maybe standing on tiptoes, but I also
possessed a special skill called Illusion. However, sadly, skills grew stronger
with the expression of emotions, in other words, they leveled up.
In the original story,
she was a body-con lady who resented people and used that resentment as power
to commit evil deeds, but what I remembered as I plummeted off a cliff was the
soul of a carefree Japanese person. I remembered the stones thrown at me, being
chased, and the words shouted at me, but I didn't have the mental stamina to
shout back about revenge. And my Illusion skill didn't level up.
My priority was to
survive, so I thought I should quickly run away. I didn't have the ultimate
cheat from the original story, only a useless cheat. I somehow reached a town,
and with three slimes as companions, I fled the town with Lotus, one of the
original love interests, as my ally. For some reason, I was targeted by a
silver-haired, handsome demon who seemed to know the original story, and I
repeated "sayonara poppoo" from town to town, country to country.
That's the recap so far.
After leaving Cloudy
Country, where the sky was always cloudy, I became friends with a girl with a
name very similar to mine in Leyshan, a country where it rained constantly.
Even now, when I remember it, it's a memory that makes me happy. After that, we
passed through several towns, met and parted with people, and with the passing
years, we made many footprints.
When I met Lotus, I
thought it had only been three years, but finally, the original story was about
to begin.
The time when the
saint, Yuko, would be summoned was approaching. She would be summoned to one of
the four countries. I didn't know which one, so maybe it would be okay to stay
in Leyshan as it was. However, I had a reason to go to Soleil. I consulted with
Lotus and Ichi and the others, and they replied with a casual "Sure."
So we crossed the sea. Lotus, who had become half-demon, could fly over the sea
much better than I could.
We arrived in a
country of bright blue skies and scorching sun.
In the endless expanse
of sandy beach, "Ooh," Lotus exclaimed in surprise, lifting his bare
feet from the waves. We had seen the sea several times, but no other country
suited it so well. I ran. I raised both hands. "This is amazing!" I
spun around and around. I wanted a swimsuit. And Ichi and the others were...
"Bubububububububububu"
"Bubububububububububu"
"Bubububububububububu"
"Scary, super
scary!!!!!!!! They're multiplying!!!!!!!! They're shaking so violently they're
multiplying!!!!!!!! I can see afterimages---!?"
--They were shaking
violently, up and down.
