[WN] Villainous Witch : Chapter 48

Chapter 48

San (Rescued)

Translator : PolterGlast

I was worried, you know~~!

I thought you'd be alright~~.

Sorry, sorry~~~.

Lotus and I sat on the chairs provided by the inn, silently watching the slime that had been carelessly abducted. Seriously, could this even happen?

We had rushed into the room, barely listening to the innkeeper's explanation. After things had calmed down a bit, I went to him to hear more details. Lotus had been appointed to watch over the wei-wei-ing slimes, leaning on his elbow with his legs crossed. They seemed to be having fun, which was all that mattered.

The innkeeper who had seemed worried when I rushed back to the inn and into the room in a flustered state, tried to comfort me by saying, "Well, it's surprising to hear there are monsters in a room." Of course, I couldn't possibly say that I was the one who brought them, so I gave a lukewarm smile, my mouth twitching into a forced grin. The announcement in my head, "Social Smile Skill Acquired," was a bit much, though.

Here's a summary of what the innkeeper told me. Some time after we went out, a long-haired man clutching a Magic Tower certificate slowly looked around the inn. He held out one hand, and just as the bracelet on his wrist glowed, he demanded that the key to our room be opened. This city revolved around the Magic Tower. When ordered to open it, they had no choice, and since there was a possibility of monsters inside, they cautiously opened the door. There, San, who had made the whole room clean, was swaying his smooth and plump body with a cheerful movement. Was this a joke?

"Well, I had heard about it from travelers from other leaves, but so that's what a slime is. Shiny and jiggly, it even looked a little tasty in a certain way."

Unbeknownst to the innkeeper, all three of the slimes, who were currently bouncing around cheerfully in front of Lotus, sneezed simultaneously at his comment. At that moment, Lotus quietly muttered, "Seriously, how did you guys just sneeze?" Lotus sometimes made deadpan serious replies.

When the stranger had barged in, I had been some distance away from San, so the illusion skill I had cast on him had completely worn off, leaving him fully visible. And not expecting the door to open, he had exclaimed, "Eeeeeh!? Howw!?," only to be grabbed under the arm and secured by the long-haired man, and he had retreated while thrashing about. Then he immediately escaped. When our slimes got serious, they became faster than cheetahs. Honestly, I sometimes looked down at the three of them with a shudder, wondering if their status were actually higher than mine.

After summarizing the innkeeper's story and San's story, I returned to the inn again. "I see...," I nodded, sitting on a chair with a feeling like I could imagine it, but also like I couldn't. By the way, I have a fundamental question here.

"By the way, are Ichi and the others monsters?"

It was a really belated question. "Huh? No, huh?" I tilted my head and blinked repeatedly, and Ichi and the others stretched out both hands and put them together, like a wei-type making a star with peace signs, and replied, "Broadly speaking, yes we are~." Narrowly speaking, were they different? Or rather, since there weren't enough of them, it wasn't a star but a triangle, but that was beside the point.

Monsters employed by demons were called mamono (demonic creatures). Even though it was a bond from the Tamer skill, I wasn't exactly employing Ichi and the others. So, well, I guess that's how it is... I somehow convinced myself and swallowed my words, but I still had a slightly unconvinced feeling. Well, it didn't really matter.

After that, I decided to ask San more deeply about it. The long-haired man who had abducted (?) him. He wore a gray robe, had a small monocle on one eye, carried a large staff, and was a quiet man. Lotus had jet-black hair, but this man's hair was a slightly greenish shade, tied back in a single ponytail, and he wore a bracelet.

"...That's..."

I searched through my memories. With a shang sound, the image of a man thrusting not a staff, but a shakujo (a Buddhist monk's staff with metal rings), into the ground flashed through my mind. --I knew him.

"He's one of the capture targets from the game..."
