[WN] Jitsuwa 3-Domedatta : Chapter 45

Chapter 45

(Kyle Calendar Year 505: Age 12)

The Wheels Begin to Turn

Translator : PolterGlast

Ignoring my parents' anxiety and expectations, I returned to the town of Est with a light heart. When I reported that I had secured an investment of 20,000 gold coins and would be granted the title of Baronet upon the successful development...

"Takuhir, you!" Father was speechless.

"You did a great job!" Mother hugged me.

"What remarkable negotiation skills," the steward praised me.

"You did it! Congratulations!" my brother rejoiced.

"Brother, what about my souvenir?" my sister asked, as naturally as ever.

The differences in their reactions were quite amusing. Only Father was utterly dumbfounded by the result, which far exceeded his expectations.

The town development plan that had been in progress was quickly finalized within the year now that the budget had been officially approved.

The mages, the administrative staff, and of course, I, felt like we worked day and night.

Elan, Mary, and Sasha traveled back and forth between the town of Est and Teigun many times, accompanied by Sara and specialists.

The "Teigun Development Plan," which incorporated detailed revisions and expert opinions based on the plan and the actual local conditions, was thus finalized.

And it was announced at the beginning of the new year.

"The Solis Baronial family will undertake the following new projects.

Following the discovery of a promising iron ore deposit in Mount Teigun, large-scale development, including a town, will be carried out in Teigun.

The second son of the Baronial family (Takuhir) will fulfill this role as lord, and Margrave Hastburg will back the development."

Along with this, the following decrees were also issued:

  • Recruiting new immigrants to Teigun from all over the territory, with job introductions planned.
  • Recruiting a large number of temporary workers for the construction work period.
  • Acceptance will begin after spring, with advance registration starting at the reception office.
  • Recruiting construction workers for the initial building phase throughout the kingdom.

"It looks like it will be a busy year," the merchants said, their faces beaming with smiles as they saw business opportunities.

"The town that person is building, should I go ahead and immigrate?" some wondered, their hearts filled with excitement for a new land.

"Now is the time to repay him," some remarked.

"Yes, it's thanks to that person that we refugees were able to become citizens here. This time, let's become citizens of his territory," others agreed, eager to contribute to the town's development.

"Boss, actually, I have something important to discuss..."

"What, you too? I've already spoken to the workshop head," some said, planning to become independent and open new businesses.

The town of Est, or rather the entire Solis Barony, was bustling with activity as the new year dawned.

"Everyone, I will head there as soon as possible. I apologize, but please take care of things until then."

"Leave it to us. We will have things in order by the time you arrive," Elan assured me.

Early in the new year, the first group, including my fellow mages like Elan, the mages dispatched by Sara and the Cornell Baronial family, urban development specialists, and construction workers, set off for Teigun.

As planned, by spring, the minimum necessary temporary housing and a temporary townscape were prepared, and the acceptance of settlers and temporary workers began.

People who had been directly or indirectly involved with me until now came forward one after another, and the second group set off for Teigun as new settlers and temporary laborers.

The caravan of people gathered in the town of Est formed a long line heading towards Mount Teigun, a sight that had already become familiar in the town of Est.

The Estol territory was booming with large-scale development.

One of the sources of this was, of course, the Teigun settlement.

The development budget was secured, and the town's plan was finalized.

Since the beginning of the year, the construction work on the hillside had been progressing rapidly, and the inflow of goods was unprecedented.

The inflow of human resources also increased sharply, creating a lively and hectic atmosphere that could be described as a daily battlefield.

In addition to the mages, about 30 volunteers from the reception office staff, the regular tournament executive committee members, and other trusted companions had already entered Teigun as the second group before spring.

They were fully utilizing their past experiences in refugee support and disaster relief, handling the daily reception and allocation of immigrants and temporary workers, and managing temporary housing.

The second source of activity was the town of Fran.

The Teigun banded iron formation was an open-pit mine where the left and right cliffs themselves were iron ore deposits, allowing for continuous mining simply by breaking them down.

The mined iron ore was being transported to the town of Fran one after another. I asked Bart, who had returned at the end of the year, to use his spatial storage skills for transportation for the time being.

The roads were not well-maintained, and large-scale transportation was currently impossible. Therefore, Bart was the key for mass transport.

After all, he could carry the equivalent of several large dump trucks' worth of cargo by himself.

If he traveled back and forth on horseback, the transportation volume was immeasurable.

On the way to Mount Teigun, he would carry a full load of mined iron ore, and on the return trip from the town of Fran, he would transport food, daily necessities, and construction materials destined for the settlement.

His feat was comparable to the shrewd "sawing business" of the Omi merchants.

As a result, the town of Fran rapidly developed as a collection point for ore, a production center for iron, and a distribution base for goods.

The third source was the town of Est, bustling with the development boom within the territory.

Merchants sensitive to business opportunities would not miss this chance. To meet the rapidly increasing demand for goods, merchants began to gather from all over the kingdom.

Even without transporting goods to Teigun, which had inconvenient transportation, they sold like hotcakes simply by bringing them to the town of Fran, where the roads were maintained.

As a result, the logistics between these two hubs became very active.

Furthermore, people gathered where money moved.

Simply issuing calls for settlers and citizens for the Estol territory throughout the Kyle Kingdom would not have attracted so many people.

However, in the Estol territory, which was booming with a large-scale development boom, there were plenty of jobs and the expectation of sufficient earnings.

Various people flowed into the territory seeking work.

Therefore, the Solis Barony was experiencing an unprecedented economic boom.

Father, Mother, and Raymond-san were all extremely busy every day.

The lives of the mages also changed drastically.

For the past year or so, they had spent the mornings studying, the afternoons managing the shooting range and preparing for the regular tournaments, and training in magical combat twice a week.

However, the management of the shooting range and regular tournaments had gradually been handed over to newcomers since last year, and since the end of last year, it had been completely entrusted to new personnel.

I also basically left things to them, except for the once-a-year Champion Tournament.

Regarding the work of the reception office and other personnel who had shared hardships with me, we also promoted new hires, and some of the original members who wished to transfer had already moved to the Teigun settlement.

The number of people moving will continue to increase as the handover and preparations are completed.

The construction of the town's foundation and the (temporary) checkpoint to be installed on the Demon Realm side were being carried out with the highest priority.

These were now the jobs of the mages.

The earth mages and water mages used their characteristics to work on the construction.

Claire and Carleen were managing the construction at the government office.

The holy mages were at the infirmary, dealing with injuries and illnesses that were common in construction work.

Christoph and Kran were supervising the construction of the checkpoint, not neglecting the strengthening of defenses.

Bart was using his storage magic to support a wide range of distribution, from purchasing goods to price negotiations and transportation.

Each of them was utilizing the knowledge they had learned so far.

Looking back now, the people from the merchant caravan who taught Bart about merchant knowledge, connections, and customs during his peddling were very helpful.

In the settlement, the government office and the lord's mansion branch, a garrison facility for 100 soldiers, and temporary housing for settlers were being constructed at a rapid pace.

The installation of the upper water channel drawn from the spring water, the excavation of wells scattered throughout the town, and the installation of the sewer system with meticulous care so as not to interfere with the above, were started first thanks to the efforts of Sara, Elan, Mary, and the two earth mages dispatched by the Cornell Baronial family.

Already, the water and sewage systems were on a scale sufficient to support the current settlers. In the future, we plan to make them suitable for a larger accommodation capacity.

Speaking of which, this world also had the concept of sewage facilities and basic knowledge of sewage treatment.

Even in Earth's history, ancient Mohenjo-daro and the Roman Empire had well-established sewage concepts and facilities from quite early on.

However, for some reason, it regressed during the Dark Ages of Europe, and sewage was discharged into towns, rivers, and moats, constantly emitting foul odors and becoming a source of epidemics.

In this world as well, large cities and newly developed cities and towns like the town of Est have well-maintained sewer systems and treatment facilities such as sedimentation basins.

However, in many old towns, small towns, and rural villages, sewage is discharged directly into rivers. Some places don't even have sewer systems.

If the population is not large, wastewater is purified by nature's purification power and naturally circulates, but as the population increases, sewage problems become apparent.

Unfortunately... there were no slime-like creatures here that decomposed or ate waste.

Therefore, when conducting specialized education at the mansion before, I had specialists invited to instruct Elan, Mary, and Sasha specifically on this point when necessary.

As a result, the Teigun settlement has purification tanks at the level possible in this world, wastewater sedimentation basins, and sewer systems running vertically and horizontally underground.

However, there isn't enough water to flush the sewage at the moment, and we are struggling in the dry winter, relying on rainwater...

If sufficient water can be secured from snowmelt and spring to summer rains, it might work out somehow.

At the end of spring, when the construction of the lord's mansion branch progresses and a habitable section is completed, I plan to officially take up my post.
