I am Fujiwara Yamato.
Right now, I'm having a very strange experience.
An old man, a god,
says I'm going to be summoned to another world. Hahaha. That's laughable. Me,
summoned? And with my classmates? To be sent to another world with those
scoundrels and live huddled together? Please, no jokes.
He says I'm a Hero?
That I should help people? Why do I have to do such a thing? What's the reason
otherworlders summoned us in the first place? Is there a Demon Lord or something?
Huh? Monsters are overflowing from the dungeon, and they want us to clear them
out? I wish they'd handle that themselves.
Hey, can I ask? Can
this summoning be refused? Oh, it can. What should I do then...?
Alright, I'll agree to
the summoning. But, I'd prefer a production job. Can you make me a production
job that can create convenient tools? A Hero? Why do I have to fight? I'm not
good with conflict. I don't want to be summoned with those people I despise,
but it's better than staying in this boring world. I don't need cheat-like
powers from a story. Just enough power to live. I think I need to be cautious
even with power. At worst, I'll just ingratiate myself with powerful people in
the other world and live. So, I want a job that allows me to use my
intelligence to live in the world I'm going to.
"..."
I was summoned to
another world. I almost laughed, but those Akaba and his cronies are Heroes.
That god takes jokes too far. I laughed so hard that I almost had a mental
breakdown. Tears were streaming, honestly.
And our class was
supposed to have 35 people, but there are only 34 here. Perhaps there was a
classmate, besides me, who thought of refusing the summoning. Or maybe they
came to this world through a different method? All the scoundrels were present,
so it must have been Fujii-kun who refused. Refusing to be with those
scoundrels makes sense.
My job is Item
Crafter. Akaba and his group looked down on production jobs, but I want to
express some gratitude to the god who granted me the job I desired.
In this world, I am
Yamato Fujiwara, an Item Crafter. The Princess of this country said that
production jobs like mine don't have to enter the dungeon. She also said she
would look after us in the castle until we could become independent. She doesn't
seem to be a bad princess, unlike the villainous princesses in light novels.
Her personality seems a bit strict, but I don't think she's a bad person. Since
we agreed to the Hero Summoning, it's not even an abduction. I don't know if
the Princess knows that there were such options, though.
When we production-job
holders leave the castle, we always have escorts. I suppose that means it's a
dangerous world, but being with escorts feels stifling. Those people have sharp
gazes, and it's intimidating. I want to be able to protect myself quickly.
Fortunately, we summoned people have something called unique skills.
My unique skill is the
Essence of Production. This unique skill is limited to the Item Crafter job,
and it's a very good skill that allows me to produce imagined items, though
materials are required.
However, to obtain
materials, I have to rely on the castle staff. I have to tell them what kind of
item I want to make and what materials I need. This was surprisingly
troublesome, so I would order slightly more materials than needed and use the
leftover materials to make things for myself. In short, I was pilfering.
While I was
experimenting with making items, I learned that the Akaba group had split up.
Since Akaba's father's influence doesn't reach this world, his underlings
seemed to have gotten cocky and left Akaba. Well, whatever happens to them is
none of my concern.
What bothered me more
was Itsukushima-san. She was making something with alchemy every day, from
early morning until late at night. Looking at her, there was something
desperate about her. Among the many useless classmates, she was a decent
person. To see such a person diligently immersed in alchemy every day, without
even hiding her tired face...
I wondered if alchemy
was that fun, but it didn't seem to be that kind of atmosphere. That's when I
realized the existence of Fujii-kun, the only classmate whose whereabouts were
unknown. His name was Fujii Yuji, I think. He was a student who defied Akaba
and suffered terrible bullying from Akaba and his group. Itsukushima-san was
worried about Fujii-kun. That was clear from her actions. She, separated from
Fujii-kun, might be trying to find him.
There was a good
possibility that Fujii-kun hadn't been summoned to this world, but she didn't
seem to think so. From her somewhat unstable emotions, I could sense her
feelings for Fujii-kun. She was in a precarious state. I would leave other
classmates alone, but I had no ill will towards her. I decided to watch over
her, like the only perfectly ripened apple among rotten ones.
Well, as we were
undergoing rigorous training, I heard a rumor that a demon had appeared in some
city and someone had subjugated it. That person was supposedly going to receive
a reward in the royal capital. We also attended that ceremony. And I was
surprised. The person who appeared before us, Toi Footscythel, with his
girl-like appearance, I believed was Fujii-kun, the only classmate whose
whereabouts were unknown.
There were several
reasons for this, but "Toi" means Fujii, right? And Footscythel,
"sickle foot," makes me think of Kamatari, or Nakatomi Kamatari, and
Fujiwara no Kamatari. Nakatomi Kamatari was a historical figure who established
the prosperity of the Fujiwara family, and I inherited that Fujiwara blood. The
surname Fujii is probably a collateral branch of the Fujiwara clan. That's why
he used wisteria in his crest. It's famous that the Fujiwara clan's family
crest often uses wisteria. ...Right?
However, his face was
completely different. He might have reincarnated instead of being summoned
(transferred). That's why he was sent to a different place from us. I thought
my imagination was getting carried away, but when I saw how he handled Akaba
and his group, I became almost certain he was Fujii-kun.
I acted immediately.
If I stayed with him, wouldn't it be more comfortable than staying in this
castle? The castle staff treats us well, but that somehow makes it
uncomfortable. I'll negotiate with him to get out of this castle, offering the
items I've made and hidden as compensation.
I was able to obtain
Toi-kun's protection. He easily agreed. He even said it was okay without me
offering items. I think he's bad at negotiating. I'm a little worried about
him. I'll guide him! Just kidding.
Princess Ermelda approved
of Itsukushima-san and me staying at Toi-kun's house, on the condition that
Toi-kun cleared out the monsters in the dungeon. That Princess Ermelda is a
shrewd woman who can calmly assess situations. She seemed to intend to use us
as leverage to effectively use Toi-kun.
Toi-kun lived in an
annex of his superior, the Duke's mansion. It was a large mansion. I slowly
began to think about the future. Itsukushima-san was mentally stable by his
side, so I probably didn't need to watch over her anymore.
Surprisingly, Toi-kun
could change jobs freely. And he could even set two jobs! What kind of cheat is
that!? I'm envious, but that kind of protagonist-level cheat probably comes
with a lot of trouble, so I don't need it.
I just want to have
fun making items as an Item Crafter and live freely. For that, I need to gather
good materials. So I asked Toi-kun if he could give me good materials if he
found any in the dungeon.
He said, "Pay me
properly," but he didn't refuse. While this was happening, our main
activity became dealing with corrupt nobles and officials and sending the trash
who cursed Anneliese-san flying, so we haven't done much dungeon exploration.
Yet, he's reached the 9th floor, so he's truly a cheat.
However, I was angered
by Grissom, who did something even I, a complete stranger, would consider
trashy, like cursing a kind and beautiful person like Anneliese-san and turning
her into an old woman.
Then, Princess Ermelda
used Toi-kun to purge the corrupt nobles and officials, making things much
clearer. What a shrewd woman she is. Finally, Toi-kun, who played a major role
in subjugating Grissom, who was possessed by a demon, was to receive a reward
from the Princess. Because of this, everyone was gathered to discuss it.
"The Princess
seems to want to promote me to Viscount. I don't find nobility particularly
appealing, but if I get promoted, everyone's status will rise. Being a
Viscount's retainer would be a better status symbol than a Baron's. So,
Gandarvan. What do you think? Don't hold back because of me. Say what you
think," Toi-kun said.
Gandarvan-san, who was
called, stood up. As expected of a bear beastman, he was a large man, and he
was an important figure who served as the tank (defense) for Toi-kun's party.
Among the retainers, he was the highest-ranking Knight Commander, and truly the
linchpin of Toi-kun's retainers and comrades.
