Chapter 16
Ginia's Information
Translator : PolterGlast
"Of course, it's
fine. We just need to bring back the defeated monster's corpse, right?"
"Yes, please
don't forget. The deadline is three days, same as before, and it inhabits the
northern mountainous region."
"Is that so. The
direction is the complete opposite of yesterday."
"I actually
wanted to introduce you to a quest on the south side, which you'd be somewhat
used to, but there's a problem on the south side... Have you noticed the small
number of adventurers?"
So that's why she
chose a quest on the north side.
It seems to be related
to the small number of adventurers, and it saved me the trouble of asking why
there were so few people.
"I was curious
from the moment we arrived and was planning to ask. What's happening on the
south side?"
"Actually, there
have been sightings of a group of bandits on the southern highway. And it's not
just any group of bandits, but a very dangerous one called the [Unbearable God
Cult]. We've had to mobilize all the adventurers to go and subjugate
them."
"The [Unbearable
God Cult]? You mean the famous one!? I thought they were mainly active around
the royal capital?"
"That's what I
heard too, but the person who saw them confirmed it was the mark of the
[Unbearable God Cult], so we're in a panic investigating it right now."
I've never heard that
name before, but Ginia seems to know it. Is it famous?
In any case, a group
of bandits means it's a bad organization made up of humans.
In Furo Village,
monsters were our only enemies, so it feels strange, but just like those
adventurers from two days ago, it's not surprising that there are bad people
out there.
They're not the kind
of opponents I want to fight, so I'll be sure to keep the name [Unbearable God
Cult] in mind.
"So that's why
you introduced us to a quest on the safer north side. Thank you for always
looking out for us."
"It's my job.
Besides, I don't want either of you to die! Please do your best to become
higher-ranked adventurers."
"Yeah. I'll do my
best to meet your expectations."
After bowing deeply to
the receptionist, Ginia and I left the Adventurer's Guild and headed for the
northern mountainous region.
I wanted to ask a bit
more about the [Unbearable God Cult], but since Ginia seemed to know about it,
I could just have her tell me on the way.
As we left Biodasdal
and headed north, I decided to ask Ginia a few things.
I was curious about
the [Unbearable God Cult], but first, I'll ask about the target of our quest,
the Sword Hawk.
"Hey, Ginia. Do
you know what kind of monster a Sword Hawk is? You gave a thumbs-up, so I
didn't ask the receptionist, but you're sure it's fine, right?"
"Yes, it's fine!
Sword Hawks are pretty common in the market, and they're sometimes sold whole,
so I know what they look like."
"Huh. They did
say to bring back the defeated one, so I guess they are for eating after
all."
"I've eaten it
before, it's like a very delicious chicken. But I don't know how strong it is
or what kind of attacks it uses. Is that okay?"
"As long as you
know what it looks like, it's fine. By the way, do you know how big it
is?"
"It's not that
big. Its total length is about half my height, maybe?"
So its total length is
about eighty centimeters.
I've fought flying
monsters like dragons over twenty meters long, so unless it has some special
ability, it should be an easy kill.
She said they're sold
in the market, so it probably isn't that strong either.
I'm guessing it's just
difficult to defeat because it flies quickly or something like that.
"If it's that
big, it doesn't seem like we need to be afraid."
"But its beak is
as sharp as a sword! I've heard that quite a few adventurers have been killed
by a diving Sword Hawk, and I've also heard a story about a cook who lost a
finger by accidentally touching its beak while preparing it."
"It has a beak
that sharp? We should probably be careful not to let it get behind us."
If it's that sharp, it
could probably be used as a weapon.
It's probably not as
hard as an Adamanturtle's shell or a Million Golem's core, but I'm looking
forward to seeing what it's like as a material.
"I have a pretty
good idea of what it's like now, besides its appearance. Sorry for always
relying on you for information."
"You're the one I
rely on in a fight, so please feel free to ask me for any information I might
have!"
"Then I'll take
you up on that offer and ask one more question. Can you tell me about that
bandit group you mentioned earlier, the [Unbearable God Cult]?"
"Of course! That
said, I'm not that knowledgeable about them myself. Is that okay?"
"Yeah, I didn't
even know their name, so even a brief explanation would be helpful."
She said all the
adventurers were out subjugating them, so it probably has nothing to do with
me, but I'd like to hear about it to pass the time on our way.
The name doesn't really
sound like a bandit group, but I wonder if she knows anything about that.
"I think I
mentioned it briefly earlier, but the [Unbearable God Cult] is a bandit group
based in the royal capital. There are only really dangerous rumors about them.
I've heard they wiped out a contingent of the Royal Knights, and that the
A-rank adventurer party [Scenic Beauty] was defeated by them."
"They're a bandit
group, but they're a militant one?"
"That's right.
They're more like a gang of robbers than bandits. Apparently, they were
originally a small religious organization called the [Heart-Saving God Cult],
but at some point, they started acting like Robin Hood, stealing only from the
rich and nobles. It seems that's when they changed their name to the
[Unbearable God Cult]."
"So that's the
reason for their un-bandit-like name. Are they still acting like Robin Hood
now?"
"No, the Robin
Hood act was only at the beginning. I hear now they steal from anyone and
everyone. However, they seem to regularly hold soup kitchens for the poor, so
even though they're a bad bandit group, they have a certain level of
support."
"I see. I
understand what kind of bandit group the [Unbearable God Cult] is now. You said
you weren't that knowledgeable, but you were actually very well-informed."
"No, there are
still a lot of vague parts, so please take what I said with a grain of
salt!"
As I was walking and
listening to Ginia's various stories, we arrived at the northern mountainous
region in no time.
Time really flies when
you're listening to interesting stories.
I was bored out of my
mind on the way from the village to Biodasdal by myself, so I'm really feeling
the wonder of having someone to talk to.
But from here on, I
need to get serious and think only about the Sword Hawk—just as I was about to
switch my mindset, I sensed a strange presence.
