Chapter 18
The Unbearable
God Cult
Translator : PolterGlast
"That was a great
fight. You've gotten so used to fighting, it's hard to believe you were scared
of a goblin yesterday."
"It's all thanks
to you, Graham-san! I have the peace of mind that I can just follow your instructions
if things get really dangerous, so I can fight freely and have fun. I think I'm
getting hooked on fighting!"
"It's good that
you're having fun, but don't let your guard down too much. There are times when
even I can't save you."
"Yes. My life is
important, so I'll be careful when I fight! ...By the way, are we still far
from the location of that large group of people? We've been walking for quite a
while now, haven't we?"
"They're about
another fifteen minutes' walk from here. But I'm a little concerned that it
sounds like they're fighting something."
"Fighting
something? With monsters?"
"It feels like a
monster's presence. The number of human presences is decreasing, so we should
probably hurry."
The presence of the
monster they were fighting wasn't that strong, but I could tell from their
completely uncoordinated movements that even with over forty people, they
weren't able to handle it.
Their presences were
gradually disappearing, indicating that they were being killed by the monster,
so we should hurry a little.
My top priority is
Ginia's life, so I picked up the pace slightly, making sure not to overexert
her, and headed towards the location of the large group.
I took care of the
monsters we encountered on the way with a single blow and arrived at the place
where I had sensed their presence.
I'm watching from a
distance so as not to be noticed, but something seems different from what I had
expected.
I thought they were
ordinary people in trouble because of their weak presence, but from here, they
look like nothing but the [Unbearable God Cult].
"Whoa! There
really are a lot of people. Isn't it amazing that you could sense them from all
the way back at the entrance of the mountainous region?"
"More
importantly, things are a little different from what I expected."
"Huh? What do you
mean?"
"I'm pretty sure,
but I think the people over there are from the [Unbearable God Cult]. I can see
what looks like stolen goods inside a wooden fence. Also, their clothes look
just like what you'd expect from bandits."
They're mostly wearing
black, robe-like clothing, and most of them have their faces covered with headscarves.
There's a chance
they're ordinary people, but I doubt they would dress so suspiciously.
"Really!? If
they're the [Unbearable God Cult], isn't there some kind of mark nearby?
They're known to display a distinctive mark."
"Ah, there's a
flag with a mark that looks like two hands clasped together against a large
eye."
"Whoa, that's
definitely the mark of the [Unbearable God Cult]! But why are they in a
mountainous region like this when they're supposed to be in the south?"
"I don't know,
but maybe they were planning to attack from both the south and the north. I
don't see any strong individuals either, so this is probably a separate
unit."
"I see... So what
are you going to do, Graham-san? Are you going to help them?"
That's the biggest
problem.
Now that we know the
mark they're displaying is that of the [Unbearable God Cult], there's no doubt
that, even if they are a separate unit, they're a group of bad people.
But, even if they are
bad people, they are still human.
The monsters attacking
them are just three ordinary Golems, not particularly strong monsters, so I
feel like it might be okay to just quickly help them out.
"It looks like
nearly half of them have been taken out. I was thinking of helping them on the
condition that they don't attack us. What do you think, Ginia?"
"It's true that
even if they are bad people, it would leave a bad taste in my mouth to just
ignore them. If you've decided to help them, Graham-san, I won't object."
"Then let's help
them. After being beaten up so badly, they probably don't have the strength to
fight back against us anyway."
"But are you sure
you can handle the monsters? I recognize the monsters attacking them; they're
supposed to be vicious monsters called Golems."
"A Million Golem
would be a tough fight, but a normal Golem is no problem. You stay behind me
and watch, Ginia."
"Understood. I'll
watch your fight and learn from it!"
As long as it's not a
Million Golem, which has high resistance to physical attacks and completely
nullifies magic, I won't have a hard time.
Normal Golems are also
a bit resistant to slashes, but magic is super effective against them.
For now, I plan to
just cut them down with my katana, but I'll prepare to use magic at any time,
just in case.
While channeling magic
power into where my left arm used to be as a precaution, I walked down towards
the [Unbearable God Cult] who were being attacked.
"I told you to
take out the Golem on the right first! So—don't get too close! Attack from a
distance... damn it. Why did a Golem have to appear here of all places!"
A man who seemed to be
the leader was desperately shouting orders, but with more than half of their
number gone, they were in a state of panic and were charging in recklessly,
ignoring his instructions.
Because of that
pointless charge, two more were killed, and I could see from my position that
the leader's eyes were filled with despair.
