Chapter 22
A Small Moment of Bliss
Translator : PolterGlast
After helping the
grunts of the [Unbearable God Cult], we were able to find a Sword Hawk on our
way back and successfully hunt it.
As for the beak, which
I had hoped would be a good weapon material, it was honestly a complete
disappointment.
It was just a beak
with a sharp tip, and it was so soft that it could be cooked and eaten, let
alone be made into a weapon.
I was disappointed
because of my high hopes, but we were able to hunt it easily, and the quest was
completed without a hitch.
This meant we had
earned five silver coins, more than double what we earned yesterday.
In high spirits, we
went straight to the Adventurer's Guild, delivered the Sword Hawk's corpse, and
successfully received our five silver coins.
"We did it!
That's two quests completed in two days! And we got five silver coins!"
"Five silver
coins is a lot. We still can't have a celebratory dinner, but two silver and
five copper coins each is a good haul."
"It's all thanks
to you, Graham-san! If we can complete another quest tomorrow, let's have that
celebratory dinner for sure!"
"Yeah. If we can
earn another five silver coins tomorrow, I think we can have a modest
celebration."
"Fufufu, I'm
already looking forward to it! The quests are fun, and it's such a change that
I can't believe I was on the verge of death just two days ago!"
"It's the same
for me. The first person I met after coming to this town was the receptionist.
And I was truly lucky that she introduced me to you, Ginia. Thank you for being
so kind to an old geezer like me."
"I'm the one who
should be thanking you!! You've helped me with every single thing! I'm counting
on you again tomorrow!"
I parted ways with
Ginia in front of the Adventurer's Guild and strode through the streets of
Biodasdal in a good mood.
Even after spending
six copper coins for a one-night stay, I still have one silver and nine copper
coins left.
I'll set aside one
silver coin for the celebratory dinner tomorrow... which means I can use nine
copper coins.
I've been living
frugally since I left the village, but now I have a little bit of breathing
room.
Now, what should I do
with nine copper coins?
To be honest, I want
things like clothes and underwear, but I can't afford such luxuries right now.
The only luxury I can
afford with nine copper coins is to make my dinner a little more lavish.
Yesterday's meal was
too simple, just rock-hard bread with a Great Lemon in between.
I already have my eye
on a dish I want to try from when I walked through the food stall district
yesterday.
Before I head back to
the inn, I'll stop by the food stall district and buy my dinner.
I bought the food I
had my eye on in the food stall district and returned to my cheap inn.
What I bought this
time was... ikameshi, a well-seasoned squid stuffed with rice; a stew with
various ingredients simmered together; a pork skewer that I hadn't planned on
buying but was lured in by its incredibly delicious smell; and—a small cup of
cheap alcohol.
I've finally gotten my
hands on alcohol.
I've loved alcohol
since my days in Furo Village, but after leaving, I had to endure a life
without it.
When I stayed at the
tavern, the smell of alcohol wafting through the air was the hardest thing to
bear.
But my patience paid
off, and I was finally able to get some alcohol with my own hands.
I enter my room, and
glad that no one is watching, I rub my cheek against the cup of alcohol before
taking the first sip.
—Aaaah, this is the best!
Savoring the feeling
of my body warming up slightly, I bite into the meat skewer I was lured into
buying by its smell.
Then I immediately
wash it down with more alcohol, and next, I devour the ikameshi I've been
eyeing since yesterday.
The room may be a
wreck, but the reality is that I'm able to eat a delicious meal in a place
where I can relax like this.
I wondered what would
become of me when I left the village without any plans, but so far, I'm having
fun and have even found enough work to be able to drink.
It's a shame that I'm
not in my best condition because of my arm, but thanks to the receptionist and
Ginia, I'm managing somehow.
I've only been on the
receiving end of kindness so far, and I still haven't fulfilled the promise I
made to the old woman I met in the village on my way here.
Once I have a little
more stability in my own life, maybe I can start helping people to fulfill that
promise.
For now, my activities
as an adventurer come first, for Ginia's sake and for my own, but I spent a
moment of happiness eating delicious food and drinking cheap alcohol, dreaming
of a day in the near future when I could do such things.
