[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Accepting a Quest

Translator : PolterGlast

After thanking the shopkeeper for letting me stay, Ginia and I left the tavern.

As for what to do from here, now that we've formed a party, even if it's just the two of us, I guess the next step is to accept a quest.

"You said you've never completed a quest, Ginia. What kind of quests have you taken on?"

"I took on a goblin subjugation quest! It seemed like the kind of quest every rookie adventurer goes through, but I couldn't defeat the goblins."

Goblin subjugation, huh.

There are many types of goblins. The ones that often appeared near Furo Village were a type called Black Caps.

They were goblins that specialized in assassination, and there were many times they'd get behind you before you even noticed.

I recall that when a Goblin Emperor joined them, even goblins became a serious threat.

"I don't know which type of goblin it was, but that might have been a bit of a difficult quest."

"So that was it. Maybe it would be better to do something safe, like gathering medicinal herbs?"

"That might have been better. But this time, I want to try subjugating some monsters."

"Then let's go with a monster subjugation quest. I'm sure the receptionist will find a good one for us!"

"Then it's decided. Let's head to the Adventurer's Guild."

We arrived at the Adventurer's Guild while having this conversation.

Perhaps because it's morning, there aren't that many people, but because of that, I stand out and am drawing quite a few stares.

"I-I feel like... we're being watched by a lot of people."

"I'm sure we are. Apparently, a rookie who's an old man is extremely rare. Even the receptionist tried her best to talk me out of becoming an adventurer yesterday."

"Is that so? You're much stronger than I am, though. It's annoying to see you being made fun of like this, Graham-san!"

"It's the truth, and it's not like it's causing any harm, so it's fine. But I think we'll be attracting stares for a while. I'm really sorry about that."

We are indeed attracting unwanted attention.

It feels close to ridicule, and although it's directed at me, I'm sure Ginia doesn't feel good about it either.

"It's not your fault, Graham-san! Let's just ignore them and go inside!"

Led by Ginia pulling me along, we entered the Adventurer's Guild and went straight to the reception desk.

The same receptionist who introduced me to Ginia yesterday was there, so we went to her counter without hesitation.

"Welcome. Oh, it's you from yesterday! I'm relieved to see you both came together."

"You remembered me. Thanks to you, I was able to successfully invite her to my party. Thank you so much for the introduction."

"Not at all! All I did was make the introduction! I'm glad your recruitment was successful!"

"It's thanks to you, for finding the best option, and to Ginia, for joining the party of someone like me. So, we'd like to take on a quest right away. Could you recommend a good one?"

"Of course! Would you prefer a subjugation quest or a gathering quest?"

"I'd prefer a subjugation quest, but which do you recommend?"

"I'd recommend a gathering quest. Since this is your first time, how about starting with something simple?"

Hmm...

We want a subjugation quest, but if this receptionist is the one saying it, we can't really say no.

Our plans are all over the place, but maybe we should try a gathering quest first.

"Alright. We'll take a gathering quest. Please recommend a good one."

"Understood! Among the ones we have now... I'd recommend gathering either Moon Grass or Great Lemons."

"I've never heard of either of those. Where do they grow?"

"Moon Grass is in the mountainous region north of this town, and Great Lemons grow in the forest to the southeast."

"Then we'll take the quest to gather Great Lemons."

"Understood! Then please gather ten Great Lemons and deliver them. The deadline is three days from now, so please be careful."

"Thanks for everything. We'll be back once we've completed it."

"Yes. I'll be waiting!"

Sent off by the smiling receptionist, we quickly left the Adventurer's Guild.
