120 Spirit of
the Spring

I gathered Gandarvan,
Barth, Jojok, Lin, Solidia, Rosalina, Banarji, Samdahl, and Anneliese.
I had Banarji attend
as a representative of the civil officials, and I called Samdahl because I
figured he'd be troublesome later if I didn't. As some of you may remember,
Samdahl is the second son of the appraisal idiot family, and his name is
Edward.
"I've gathered
you all today to discuss the orbs."
"Orbs?!"
Samdahl leaped up. His
nostrils were flared. Calm down.
When we were looping
the 9th-floor boss room of the royal capital dungeon, we obtained three
low-grade orbs and one mid-grade orb. We had been so busy with various things
that I had put off deciding what to do with them until now.
I haven't talked to
the Royal Family or the Duke about the orbs. There's no need to tell them what
we obtained from the dungeon, and if I did, they would probably try to
negotiate to get them.
Since we have new
members, I thought it was necessary to have a proper discussion, so I gathered
everyone.
"These were
obtained by all of you risking your lives. There are only four of them, not
enough for everyone, but I wanted to discuss and decide who should use
them."
"I believe it
would be best for only you, my lord, to use the orbs. After all, even the Royal
Family doesn't use orbs so easily. It's unthinkable for people like us to use
them. I believe it would be best to keep them as family heirlooms."
Gandarvan strongly
insisted that they were not to be used by retainers and should be kept as
family heirlooms.
"To think you
even possess orbs... My, my, I am truly in awe."
Banarji shook his
head, completely exasperated.
"As Sir Gandarvan
said, how about keeping them as heirlooms of the Footscythel viscount family
and passing them down through generations?"
"Indeed. We don't
know what the future holds, so it would be better to use the orbs if a crisis
befalls your descendants, my lord."
Gandarvan and Banarji
hit it off. They insisted I lock them up in a treasure vault.
I wanted to give them
to one of my retainers since we all obtained them together, but it seems that's
not the mood. Barth, Jojok, Lin, and Solidia all agreed with Gandarvan and the
others with pale faces. Rosalina tilted her head, so she probably didn't
understand.
"Are you sure
it's okay for me to take all of them?"
" " "Of
course!" " "
They were all in
perfect harmony. I didn't expect everyone but Rosalina to speak at the same
time.
"Alright then. Anneliese,
why don't you try one?"
I took out the wooden
box containing the orbs from my Item Box and opened the lid.
Since they are the
kind of things the Royal Family would lock away as heirlooms in a treasure
vault, the wooden box is made of good material and filled with cotton so the
orbs won't get damaged.
"Eh?! Me?"
Samdahl looked like he
was about to faint, saying, "Four of them?!", but I left him to Barth
and lined up the orbs in front of Anneliese.
"Yeah. Gandarvan
and the others seem reluctant, but you're my fiancée, Anneliese. And you'll be
my wife after we get married."
"Even if you say
so..."
"You're a Mage,
so I think you'll have good compatibility with a spirit."
That's a compatibility
with no basis, but I know it's true. I know a good spirit will appear for Anneliese!
"Huff, huff...
M-mid-grade orb at that... This is unbelievable..."
There's one person
whose hands are trembling and eyes are bloodshot. You can appraise them or do
whatever you want as long as you don't touch them, so can you please be quiet?
"Are you really
sure?"
"Yes. You can
even try all four if you want."
"Please, no. I
might faint."
I've gotten so strong
from my high level that I don't need a new spirit. It would be different if I knew
what kind of spirit would be summoned, but since it's random, I'd rather not.
But locking them up in
a treasure vault is just boring. That's why I wanted someone to use them.
"Then, please
choose the one you like."
The low-grade orbs
were all about 10 centimeters in diameter, and something like fire was
flickering inside. They all looked pretty much the same, and Detailed Appraisal
gave the same information for all three.
The mid-grade orb was
a bit larger, about 15 centimeters in diameter. Inside, it was cloudy like fog,
different from the low-grade ones.
"I'll take this
one."
The one Anneliese
picked was one of the low-grade orbs.
"Why did you
choose that one?"
"I felt like it
was calling to me."
Anneliese said
something like Rosalina! She's not one of those types, so I wonder if there was
something that attracted her.
I can't figure it out.
"The mid-grade
one is fine too, you know? In fact, why don't you take the mid-grade one?"
"No, I've taken a
liking to this one."
"I see... Then,
let's use the orb right away!"
Last time, I did it
secretly and got scolded afterwards. That won't happen this time.
When Anneliese used
the orb, it vanished with a whoosh. Samdahl was yelling. Can you please be
quiet?
Just like with me, she
was ready to summon a random spirit.
"My, that was
anticlimactic."
Banarji commented
after seeing the orb simply vanish.
"It's not over
yet, Mr. Banarji."
"Is that
so?"
We all went to the
backyard. Only authorized personnel were allowed inside. I had to ensure that
no one else could see us performing the summoning.
"Spirit
Summon!"
" "
"..." " "
Just as we were
wondering why nothing was happening, a huge column of water erupted.
" "
"Whoa!" " "
The water column rose
with enough force to reach 10 meters high, like a geyser.
The commotion
attracted soldiers and servants who came to see what was happening.
"It's Lady Anneliese's
magic training. We apologize for the disturbance. Everyone, please return to
your posts."
"Did you hear
what the lord said?! It's Lady Anneliese's magic. Everyone, return to your
posts!"
Banarji, with quick
thinking, had the servants step back by saying it was Anneliese's magic.
Gandarvan followed suit and had the soldiers return to their posts.
When the water
subsided, a ball of light flew around Anneliese. It was a greenish-blue color.
"Whaaaat?! The
spirit of the... spring..."
Samdahl fainted. He
seemed so happy to see the spirit that he fainted. He's noisy, but not a bad
person.
He's a true appraisal
idiot, and he's happy to appraise rare items and whatnot. In a way, he's a
pervert.
"Judging from the
water, I guess it's a low-grade spirit of the spring."
"A spirit of the
spring... My spirit is a spring spirit!"
An elf playing with a
ball of light. It's a picturesque scene.
"Alright! I'll
call a painter and have this scene painted!"
"I think it would
be best to keep the spirit a secret."
"Mmm..."
Banarji is telling me
not to paint it. Don't you think that's terrible?
I know that much myself.
But Anneliese is so beautiful that I want to have her painted.
"Hehe. I'll name
you Annie. Is that okay? Hehe. It is. Then, Annie, it's a pleasure to meet
you."
I'm glad they can
communicate with each other.
"Whoa?!"
I was suddenly
drenched with water. Hey, stop it!
"Anneliese,
please stop her."
"It seems Annie
likes you, Toi-sama."
"She throws water
at people she likes? Why?"
I was in a terrible
state.
The next day, a spring
had formed in the backyard. Annie had apparently made it, and her presence was
being seen by the servants and soldiers as she floated around it. So much for a
secret...
Oh well. I'll summon
Rose, too.
"Come,
Rose."
Rose and Annie happily
flew around. Rose is a pale pink ball, and Annie is a greenish-blue one.
Annie's level is 20,
but Rose's level exceeds 60. Perhaps because of that, Rose is a little bigger.
***
The former knights,
former village heads, and bandits are becoming more active. It seems they've
decided when to attack my mansion.
The criminals are surprisingly
cautious and seem to be doing their research. The former knights know the
inside of the mansion well, but they don't know the current security system.
They're making contact with my soldiers to get that information.
We know everything
they're doing, but they are seriously plotting their evil scheme. I shouldn't
laugh at the, but I can't help but laugh.
Thanks to this, we can
feed them false information. It's exactly what we want.
"They're
apparently boasting that I have a lot of money and that they can take as much
as they want."
"They're fools
for not knowing that we know everything they're doing."
"The bandits will
join them right before the attack. Do not let them catch on until then."
"Ha!"
Gandarvan, with his
massive body, left the room.
Only Sodon is
monitoring the former knights. We're short-handed, and only Sodon and I have
stealth-type skills.
I have a lot of other
things to do, so I have no choice but to rely on Sodon. It may be because I'm a
new lord, but being a lord is quite busy.
The acquisition
condition for the Hermit job isn't even revealed by Detailed Appraisal. It just
won't tell me. I feel incredibly lucky to have met Sodon.
But the proficiency of
my Detailed Appraisal is "High," so why can't I see it? Is the acquisition
condition for the Hermit job that special, or is it a job characteristic that
makes it invisible? I don't know, but it's something I'm curious about.
I know the acquisition
condition for my Assassin job. It's a dangerous job, so it's not something I
can just casually increase the number of, even though I have it myself.
It would be great if
there were jobs like Ninja, Infiltrator, or Spy, but I've never seen such jobs.
Of course, Detailed Appraisal won't tell me the acquisition conditions for jobs
I haven't seen.
"I wonder if
anyone will get a stealth-type job..."
If they did, I would
know the acquisition conditions.
