[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 82

Chapter 82

The Carriage

Translator : PolterGlast

About three weeks passed in the blink of an eye.

During this period, we spent our days completing quests as planned, and we were finally able to get promoted to D-rank.

It felt like a very long time since E-rank, but according to the receptionist, it was the fastest D-rank promotion in Biodasdal's history.

Now, I've become famous in a different sense than before, and I've even been given the nickname 'Graham the One-Armed'.

Considering my previous nickname was 'the geezer rookie,' this is a huge step up, and I'm happy that my name is being called properly now.

I'm also grateful that it's not some grand epithet.

If I were to be given a grand title like 'eiyuu' or 'yuusha,' I'd be too embarrassed to even walk outside.

Well, if you ask me, I don't need a nickname at all.

"Good morning, Graham-san! Today's the day we finally leave for the Royal Capital!"

"That it is. I'm surprised it's happening sooner than I imagined, but we've just been promoted to D-rank, so the timing might be for the best."

"The Guild Master said everything was decided without a hitch! The promotion test was fun, but the days of just doing quests were getting boring, so I'm happy to be going to the Royal Capital!"

"I enjoyed the quests too, but I'm also looking forward to going to the Royal Capital! It's a big help that the Adventurer's Guild is covering all the expenses!"

"Totally! Fufufu. It seems they're really going to pay for everything, so let's take this chance to live it up!"

"That's probably not a very good suggestion... but I'm in. We're going to the Royal Capital at the Guild Master's request, after all. Let's get treated to some things we'd never normally eat."

For once, I went along with Aoi's suggestion, and the two of us exchanged mischievous grins.

Incidentally, although our departure time is in the morning, it's not super early, but around the same time we'd usually go to accept a quest.

I heard it's quite far, so I thought we'd be traveling for a longer time, but apparently, the journey to the Royal Capital will take two days.

A carriage has also been arranged for us. First, we'll go to the first stopover point, the town of Renge.

We'll spend the night in Renge, switch to a different carriage the next morning, and then head to the town of Anbezier. From Anbezier to the Royal Capital, we'll be on foot.

I've never been to the Royal Capital, of course, nor the two towns we'll be passing through, and this is also my first time riding in a carriage.

There are a lot of things I don't know, but it's reassuring that the Guild Master is with us and will handle things. And as Aoi said, this trip won't cost us any money.

I still feel strongly that I've been dragged into something troublesome, but an opportunity like this is rare... and for a forty-two-year-old like me, it might even be my last.

When I think of it that way, I feel like I've been given a good opportunity, and unlike when it was first proposed, I'm greeting this day with a surprising sense of excitement.

In this excited state, we arrived at the Adventurer's Guild, and the Guild Master was already outside.

It seems the other guild employees are not coming along, and the group heading to the Royal Capital will be the same members who went to Hest Forest.

"Graham-san, Ginia, Aoi, good morning. And again, thank you for this."

"Don't worry about it anymore. I'm quite looking forward to the Royal Capital."

"You even arranged a carriage for the journey! Aoi-chan and I are so excited!"

"Totally! We're not going to hold back, so we'll be buying and eating whatever we want!"

"Feel free. I've heard the Royal Capital's Adventurer's Guild is covering all the expenses, and we should be able to stay at a first-class hotel over there as well."

That's something to really look forward to.

I'm completely satisfied with 'The Camellia Inn' where I'm staying now, but my only fear is that staying at a first-class hotel will spoil me... but it's just a trip, so it should be fine.

This might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so I'll enjoy it to the fullest.

"A first-class hotel! I wonder if the food and the baths will be amazing!"

"The rooms are probably beautiful too! I wonder what kind of beds they have?"

"Who knows. For me, who was sleeping on a stiff-as-a-board futon until I moved into 'The Camellia Inn,' I can't even imagine."

The three of us, visibly excited, discussed the first-class hotel as we headed to the carriage that the Guild Master said was waiting outside.

Thanks to the Guild Master's privilege, we were able to leave the city right away without an inspection and got into the luxurious carriage that was parked outside.

"Whoooa! It's so spacious inside, and it's like a super fluffy sofa!"

"The thing pulling the carriage was a monster, right? That's the first time I've ever seen one, but do luxury carriages get pulled by monsters?"

"It's a monster called a Desert Horse, and it lives in the desert. It has overwhelmingly more horsepower than a normal horse, and because it lives in the desert, it's so resistant to starvation that it can go a week without water."

"I've never heard of that monster before. By the way, how do you make this Desert Horse obey?"

"The coachman has the 'Monster Tamer' job. It's a special job that allows one to tame monsters. In the Royal Capital, there are even adventurers who have it."

So there's a job that lets you tame monsters.

I'd like to hear more for future reference, but I should probably refrain from asking him while he's on the job.

"...You have Bane-san under your command, so does that make you a Monster Tamer too, Graham-san?"

"He's just following me of his own accord, so no. Bane is in a position where he could betray me at any time if he wanted to."

"No way, he would never betray you! He's practically infatuated with you!"

"...Hmm? What are you three talking about?"

"Oh, it's nothing. More importantly, when are we leaving?"

"We should be leaving any moment now... Oh, speak of the devil, we're moving."

Swaying in the carriage pulled by the Desert Horse, we headed for our first stopover point, Renge.
