[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 84

Chapter 84

Overwhelming

Translator : PolterGlast

We switched carriages and arrived safely at our second stopover point, the town of Anbezier.

After some light sightseeing, just as in Renge, we spent the night at an inn the Guild Master had booked, and the next morning, we set off on foot for the Royal Capital.

"The carriage was nice, but walking like this is good too! It's fun to see a different kind of scenery than usual!"

"We couldn't see the scenery from the carriage, after all. Walking through an unfamiliar land like this is also a pleasure."

"Maybe it's because it's the road to the Royal Capital, but it's incredibly well-paved and easy to walk on. We've been walking for about three hours, but we haven't encountered a single monster!"

"That's because the Royal Capital's Guild Master has set up thorough monster wards. As long as you don't stray too far from the road, you won't encounter any monsters."

What the Guild Master said was true; I could only sense monster reactions from a great distance.

It seems the monsters are intentionally avoiding the road, so it's certain that some kind of monster ward has been set up.

But I don't know what kind of method they're using, which is very frustrating.

While I was thinking that, the number of people gradually began to increase.

I experienced this when I first came to Biodasdal; this is a sign that a city is near.

"Is the Royal Capital close already? The number of people has suddenly increased."

"Yeah, we'll be there in about twenty minutes. If this is your first time in the Royal Capital, I'm sure you'll be surprised, Graham-san."

Would I be surprised by the number of people, or by the size of the city?

I was already surprised by both of those in Biodasdal, so I won't be surprised again.

Or so I thought...

"Wh-what is... this crowd. And what is with the size of that city!!"

"Fufu, you have a good reaction. That's the Royal Capital."

A crowd of people large enough to be intimidating came into view before we even entered the city.

Biodasdal also has a line for the body search before you can enter, but this was a crowd of an incomparable scale.

Lined up were enough people that it would surely take half a day to get inside.

And at the end of that massive line, I could see a city wall that was more than three times the size of Biodasdal's, and the shock was about the same as when I saw the Ancient Dragon.

I'm extremely curious as to how they could build something like that.

The design is detailed down to the finest point, and it has a complex structure like a fortress.

That kind of detailed work is impossible with magic, so it's certain that it was built by human hands.

How many people and how many years did it take?

Just imagining it... is kind of terrifying.

"Everything is just on a completely different scale! It's already interesting and we haven't even entered the city yet!"

"I agree. I was surprised when I came to Biodasdal, but the Royal Capital is in a different league."

"The inside of the city is even more amazing. There are so many different things that you definitely won't be able to see them all during our stay."

"Considering I might have never come here in my entire life, I might have to thank the Guild Master for this opportunity."

"Don't thank me. Things are definitely going to get troublesome from here on out. I really only feel sorry."

The Guild Master says that, but I'm already so satisfied that I don't mind a little trouble.

I'm also really looking forward to exploring the Royal Capital, so I'm glad I came.

Already overwhelmed by my first visit to the Royal Capital, we walked past the line and proceeded steadily forward.

Apparently, the Guild Master's privilege can be used in the Royal Capital as well, and it seems we can enter without waiting in line.

We passed the line that would have normally taken half a day and arrived directly under the city wall.

Coming down here, it was even more incredible. Even if I craned my neck to look straight up, I couldn't see the top of the wall.

"There's a body search from here. None of you three are carrying anything strange, right?"

"I'm fine! I didn't bring much luggage to begin with."

"The only suspicious thing is my weapon, but that should be fine, right?"

"Weapons are not a problem. Well then, let's go."

Following the Guild Master who was leading the way, we headed for a place like a checkpoint inside the gate.

After the Guild Master said something, our body search was conducted right away.

"Stand with both your hands spread out. We'll be holding onto all your bags."

About ten inspectors conducted the search all at once, so it was over in no time.

It was a short time, but every inch of our bodies was thoroughly checked.

"Alright, all clear. You can go inside."

"Thanks. Take this."

The Guild Master handed over a tip, and the person who seemed to be the head inspector accepted it without a word.

It wasn't a bribe-like amount, so the Royal Capital might have a tipping culture.

"Should we give one too?"

"No, you don't have to. I paid a little extra, so you three don't have to worry about it."

"Is that how it works?"

"Yeah. Well then, we're finally inside the Royal Capital."

We really are finally here.

It took two full days since we left Biodasdal, but we can finally enter the Royal Capital.

Feeling simply excited, I passed through the gate and entered the Royal Capital.
