[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 111

Chapter 111

Winner's Prize

Translator : PolterGlast

With the three women in perfect health, we could return to Biodasdal at any time. The Royal Capital had been fun, but since I found the city of Biodasdal more relaxing, the desire to return soon grew stronger by the day.

...However, I had been summoned by Salis before we left, so I decided to head to the Adventurer's Guild today, also to say my farewells. Ginia and Aoi offered to stay at the inn to look after the three women, so I arrived at the Adventurer's Guild with just the Guild Master.

"She said she would give us a reward, but I wonder what exactly she intends to do."

"I haven't the faintest idea. Knowing Salis, I imagine she has prepared something that Graham-san would be pleased with, though."

"Something I would be pleased with... huh. Since even I don't know what that would be, I'm genuinely looking forward to it."

I had almost no desire for material things. Though, if she had arranged a carriage for the return trip... I would be honestly happy about that.

While thinking about such things, we arrived at the Guild Master's office. When I knocked, Salis's voice responded from within, so I opened the door and entered the room.

"Oh, it's Graham and Dwayne! ...Huh? I don't see Ginia and Aoi; what happened?"

"They are looking after things at the inn. I purchased slaves at the Black Market, so they are taking care of those girls."

"Hoh, Graham bought slaves... is that so."

Salis had welcomed us with a smile, but the moment she heard the word 'slave', her expression grew grim. As the Guild Master of the Royal Capital, she likely knew the reality of slavery in detail. Feeling a gaze akin to hostility directed at me, I opened my mouth to explain myself.

"It's alright, you don't need to glare like that. Even though they are slaves, I only purchased them because we were short on workers. I have no intention of treating them poorly, and if they say they don't want to work, I don't intend to force them."

"What Graham-san is saying is the truth. I was the one who recommended it in the first place, and Graham-san wasn't enthusiastic about it. The work is for the orphanage... so it's not what you're thinking, Salis."

Following my explanation, the Guild Master backed me up. Upon hearing those words, Salis's expression finally softened.

"No, no... my apologies. Did my expression stiffen? It's not that I doubted you, Graham, but I have certain feelings regarding slavery, which caused my face to become grim."

"I have my own thoughts on the matter as well, so it's not something you need to apologize for, Salis."

"............We haven't even started talking yet, and the conversation has already derailed. You visited today because I summoned you after the Exchange Match ended, correct?"

"Yeah. We intend to leave the Royal Capital soon, so I thought I should pay my respects to you, Salis, before that."

Salis seemed like she wanted to say more about the slaves, but she swallowed her words and steered the conversation back on track. I also wanted to discuss slavery with Salis, the Guild Master of the Royal Capital, but for now, we should prioritize the matter at hand.

"I see. So you are returning after all. In any case... I have prepared several gifts as a victory prize. I can only give you one, so I would like you to choose, Graham."

"There are options? I'm looking forward to seeing what they are."

"It puts me on the spot if you get your hopes up that much, but... let me explain the gifts right away."

Saying that, Salis pulled a single staff from under her desk. At a glance, it looked like nothing more than a tattered staff, but upon closer inspection, it was clear that the materials used were top-tier.

"The first item is this Grandwood Staff. Unlike an ordinary staff, it is a special staff that automatically activates a specific spell when magic power is poured into it."

"A specific spell can be cast? What is that spell?"

"It is the Heal spell. ...Hey, don't look so disappointed. It might be unnecessary for you, Graham, but for anyone to be able to cast Heal is a tremendously practical thing, you know?"

For a moment, I thought, "Just Heal?" and it actually showed on my face, but it is indeed amazing that anyone would be able to use Heal. I could give it to Ginia or Aoi to add another healer... or I could leave it at the orphanage so that Ria, Tricia, and Maud could use it while running the place.

Thinking it was mediocre just because I can use Recovery Magic was far too short-sighted. Just thinking about it a little revealed so many uses; it was actually a masterpiece I wanted quite a bit.

"Sorry for letting it show on my face. ...However, thinking it over again, that is an amazing staff. I honestly want it."

"Do you really think so? Your expression earlier was truly terrible, you know?"

"No, I really do. I've already thought of several ways to use it."

"That's good, then... Well, I still have other things prepared. Please take your time to choose and decide."

Since the first item was already something I wanted, I was very much looking forward to the subsequent items. Excitement building, I waited for Salis to introduce the second item she had prepared.
