Chapter 114
The Situation
Translator : PolterGlast
Taking Ginia and Aoi with me, we hurriedly
returned to the Adventurer's Guild. Salis was waiting for us near
the entrance of the guild, and it seemed she
had managed to grasp the general situation and issue instructions in the time
we were gone.
"Ginia, Aoi, thank you for coming. I have
many things to discuss, so could you come to my room one more time?"
"Of course."
After replying, we followed Salis as she walked ahead toward the Guild Master's office. As
soon as we entered the room, Salis began explaining the situation.
"First, let me give you a brief explanation. The
invasion of over a thousand monsters is confirmed information. I heard it from
adventurers who actually went to check the situation, and the adventurer in
question is a trustworthy former S-Rank adventurer."
"R-Really... so that number of monsters is actually
approaching...!"
"And it wasn't just the numbers; he said each
individual monster looked strong. It seems they couldn't get close enough to
see them visually in detail, so we haven't obtained detailed information on the
monsters."
She spoke calmly, but
sweat was beading on Salis's forehead, indicating she was considerably panicked.
"So... where is this horde of monsters located?"
"The location the adventurers confirmed is a plain
about three hours west of the Royal Capital. We still don't know where
they marched from."
"Closer than I thought. So the grace period is about
one hour? We're going out to intercept them, right?"
"Yeah. We can't fight near the Royal Capital, so
we will gather numbers and sortie. I'm currently
issuing a call to arms to all the other S-Rank adventurers who came for
the Exchange Match and the powerful individuals remaining in the capital...
but I don't know how many will gather."
With a massive horde of monsters approaching faster than
expected and uncertainty about gathering personnel, it was no wonder Salis
was panicking.
It seemed I had better prepare myself with the intention of
slaughtering every single monster myself. Since I had confronted the Demon
King's Army many times when I was in Fuuro Village, I wasn't
particularly nervous... but in my last battle, I lost my arm to an Ancient
Dragon, so this would be my first time fighting with only one arm. It is a
little scary not knowing how well I can perform.
"So we might have to fight with limited forces. Do you
have a strategy or something in mind?"
"There isn't even time to devise a strategy, so I
haven't thought of anything grand. However... there is a mountainous area
between the plains and the Royal Capital. I intend to take the high
ground there and use the terrain advantage to attack."
"I see. I'm unfamiliar with the geography around the Royal
Capital, so we can't offer any opinions. We leave it to you, Salis."
"Yeah. I will take responsibility for all strategies. I
just want the four of you to lend me your strength."
"As I told you earlier, we will offer our full
cooperation."
"Indeed! There is no way we can overlook this, so
although our power is meager, allow us to fight alongside you!"
"Me too! Salis-san has taken care of us, after
all!"
"All three of you... thank you, truly."
After telling Salis, who bowed deeply once again,
that such formalities were unnecessary, we decided to leave the Adventurer's
Guild for the time being. Now that we knew there was no time, we couldn't
afford to take it slow.
Since departure was in one hour, we needed to get ready for
battle immediately... and explain things to Ria, Tricia, and Maud.
Then, I needed to go ask Max to look after the three of them while we
were away from the Royal Capital.
"Graham-san, how do you intend to move from
here?"
"First... can I ask what the Guild Master will
do?"
"I'm going with you. I don't think I'll be useful in
combat, but having even a few more people is better, right?"
"That's appreciated. In that case, I'd like to ask the Guild
Master, Ginia, and Aoi to handle combat preparations,
including shopping."
"Understood! What will you do, Graham-san?"
"After I go see Max, I'll return to the inn to
explain things to the three of them."
"I see! Got it! Leave this side to us! By the way, is
there anything you want us to buy for you, Graham?"
"If there are Smoke Screens, buy them. If not,
it's not a problem, so only if they have them."
"Understood! If there are Smoke Screens, we'll
buy them!"
"Yeah. I'm counting on you."
After leaving the Adventurer's Guild, I immediately
parted ways with the three of them and headed toward the Black Market
where Max was. When we met previously, I had heard where the Grey
Volunteers based their operations, so I walked toward their base.
Pushing through the Black Market, which was filled
with the usual rough crowd, I arrived at an old building in a straight line.
This building seemed to be the Grey Volunteers' base, and quite a few
people were stationed there.
Being based in the Black Market, many of them looked
scary, but they were friendly. When I explained the situation, they immediately
guided me to Max. After being shown to his room, Max readily
agreed to my request to watch over the three women without a second thought.
With this, I didn't need to worry about leaving Ria, Tricia, and Maud
in the Royal Capital.
All that was left was to guide Max to the inn and
explain things to Ria, Tricia, and Maud, and preparations
would be complete. Switching my mind into combat mode, I left the Black
Market together with Max.
