[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 117

Chapter 117

The Undead Army

Translator : PolterGlast

Charging into the opening created by my flying slash, I plunged into the massive horde of monsters alone first. Monsters attacked from all directions in unison, attempting to eliminate the intruder, but—

"[Freezing Explosion]"

I froze the attacking monsters in an instant with Ice Attribute Magic, then simultaneously detonated them with Fire Attribute Magic. From within the swarm, I blew a massive hole through their ranks.

"As expected of Graham-san!"

"Let's get inside through there!"

Ginia and Aoi, who had been following me, joined up immediately, and we successfully established a formation right in the middle of the monster horde. From here on, we would simply rampage, making it easier for attacks from above to get through.

"Ginia and Aoi, as we discussed, protect my back and nothing else. I will take down every monster except those in the rear."

"Understood! I will follow with everything I have and ensure Graham-san's back is protected!"

"That's right! Leave the back to me and Ginia, so just go wild, Graham!"

"You couldn't be more reliable. Alright then—let's go."

I built up my magic power while raising my katana. Before me stood over a thousand monsters, each possessing a decent amount of strength.

To friend and foe alike, this charge must look like nothing but recklessness... but since the Demon King's Army that attacked Fuuro Village was far more threatening, right now, all I felt was excitement. Grinning, I began the charge at a speed the two of them could keep up with.

The enemy's first wave was an undead army composed solely of undead species. It consisted basically of Bone Soldiers, Bone Fighters, and Bone Knights, with Corpse Wizards positioned here and there.

Corpse Wizards are troublesome, but ultimately, they are lower-class monsters inferior to a Lich. For me, having fought the undead army of Elder Lich Wiseperson, who commanded Liches and Corpse Kings, this opponent was a piece of cake.

I effortlessly mowed down the three types of monsters lacking long-range attacks, and took out the Corpse Wizards, who possessed ranged capabilities, with flying slashes. Scattering them with magic would be quicker, but I was generally conserving my magic power.

I intended to unleash magic to kill quickly only when there was a monster capable of countering my flying slashes. Making a bloodbath of the undead who couldn't keep up with my speed one after another, I was succeeding in completely halting the Demon King's Army's advance.

"It's truly incredible! You're taking them down without leaving a single one!"

"We get attacked from behind occasionally, but the numbers are so few, and with the long-range support, we can handle it with ease! ...Are we really in the middle of a monster horde?"

"It's thanks to the opponents being weaker than I thought. Besides, this is still the first wave; there are plenty more monsters behind them, so don't let your guard down."

As I cut them down while keeping the two excited girls focused, the end of the first wave came into view sooner than expected. And waiting at the very rear of that first wave was—a Dead Priest.

Although there are no traces left since he evolved, it is a monster of the same species as Bane before his evolution. However, this Dead Priest appeared to be a completely enslaved monster; I felt none of the intelligence I sensed in Bane. It simply activated magic to kill us in accordance with the orders it was given.

"[Flame Ball]"

A red, blazing fireball hovered above the Dead Priest's head. At the same moment it swung down its cheap staff, the [Flame Ball] was launched toward us.

—However, to be blunt, I didn't feel a shred of fear. [Flame Ball] should be Intermediate Magic, but its power was definitely lower than the [Fireball] Bane uses.

Seeing this Dead Priest, I was convinced that Bane had indeed evolved into a monster on a completely different level. Swearing in my heart that one shouldn't lightly give names to monsters, I cast my first spell since the battle began.

"[Fireball]"

In contrast to the Dead Priest, who took tens of seconds to cast its spell, I activated mine in an instant. And, naturally, not only was it more powerful than the [Flame Ball] unleashed by the Dead Priest, it was also more powerful than the [Fireball] Bane had shown me the other day.

I wondered if it was petty to compete with Bane who wasn't even here, but there's no such thing as too much power. The roaring, blazing [Fireball] consumed the [Flame Ball] fired by the Dead Priest the moment they collided, growing even larger before assaulting the Dead Priest.

It tried to defend itself with a wall created by Earth Attribute Magic, but there was no way a fragile earth wall with overwhelmingly insufficient proficiency could stop it... My [Fireball] obliterated the Dead Priest without a trace, right through the earth wall.

"Instantly killing that monster... that's too amazing!"

"Watching from behind, I don't feel like we'll lose at all! Ooh, I want to see the reaction of Salis-san and the others who are probably watching from above!"

"I'll say it again, you're relaxing too early. ...Well, the first wave can't recover anymore, so it's safe to say we've annihilated them."

What remained were scattered lower-class undead, their command structure in chaos after losing their commander. They can likely be finished off by the long-range attacks of the adventurers waiting on the high ground, so I will turn my attention to the next wave.
