[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 118

Chapter 118

The Figure of a Hero

Translator : PolterGlast

He was needlessly overflowing with confidence, and deep down, I thought he was an unlikeable guy. However... he was a person vouched for by Julian, the leader of the White Phoenix, a newcomer who had nonetheless achieved overwhelming merits in the Royal Capital.

No aura, one-armed, elderly, and a D-Rank adventurer. Since I had never actually seen the battle of this old man calling himself Graham, watching him charge into an army of monsters only brought the word "reckless" to mind... but his fighting style was as if I were watching an illusion.

Charging alone into a horde of monsters and scattering them with overwhelming power. Watching from above, I could see it clearly: despite being surrounded by massive numbers of monsters, he hadn't taken a single hit.

Even with his comrades protecting his back, he was under continuous assault from undead from three directions. And these weren't lower-class monsters like Ghouls or Skeletons, but numerous monsters equivalent to C-Rank and B-Rank like Bone Soldiers, Bone Fighters, and Bone Knights.

Dodging attacks from such monsters as if he could see the future, he cut down the Bone Soldiers lightly, as if slicing through pudding. That figure was like a hero straight out of a story—

"............Too amazing."

It was such an overwhelming sight that I involuntarily muttered those words. I, too, had reached S-Rank, the highest rank for adventurers, and prided myself on being one of the most capable individuals in the world, but this person called Graham is on a different level.

I can't understand why a human of this caliber was unknown, and I now understand the smug expression Julian showed me when I approached him with skepticism. He is exactly the kind of human called a hero or a brave; as long as Graham-san is here, we won't lose even to this army of over a thousand monsters.

While I was dumbfounded thinking about this, the undead army of nearly a hundred was annihilated by Graham-san's hands in the blink of an eye. The Dead Priest, likely the commander of the undead army, was also killed instantly. His fighting was so spectacular that I wondered if there would even be a turn for us.

"Hey, Julian. Just who on earth... is Graham-san?"

"I don't know either. I thought he possessed exceptional strength, but the fighting style we are witnessing now far exceeds my assumptions... and there is a possibility he still has more in reserve."

"More than this? Surely not... right?"

Thinking he might be joking, I looked at Julian's face... but sweat was beading on Julian's forehead, and his expression was dead serious. There was absolutely no atmosphere of joking.

If this wasn't his full power, he would be an existence far surpassing even heroes. While strongly thinking that was impossible, I couldn't help but look down at Graham-san below with a feeling of expectation.

Appearing before Graham-san and his group, who had easily annihilated the undead army, was the second wave of the Demon King's Army. It was a flying unit composed of bird-type monsters, an army seemingly formed to see through our shallow plan of using the terrain advantage to attack from high ground.

Since Graham-san attacks with a katana, he can't do anything against them, so I thought our turn had finally come after doing almost nothing until now... but my thoughts ended as unfounded fears. Against the flying unit of the Demon King's Army that passed over Graham-san's head on the ground and headed straight for us, Graham-san chanted some kind of magic toward the sky.

I couldn't hear the incantation from this position and didn't know what spell it was, but seeing the amount of magic power, I immediately understood it was a spell outside the norm. While a roaring, intense sound resonated, dark clouds began to gather even higher above the flying bird monsters.

And in the next instant—accompanied by a flash of lightning that turned my vision white, Thunder Magic assaulted the flying monsters. It was a level of magic I had never seen, and aside from its power, its accuracy was such that it caused absolutely no harm to us nearby.

While not a single one of us could do anything but stand there in a daze, every last one of the bird monsters flying in the sky was burned to death. Silence descended upon the area.

Only S-Rank adventurers were here, people brimming with confidence. If there were monsters, they would race to be the first to defeat them, and if someone else took the credit, they would immediately go to claim their own.

In this place filled only with people who were overconfident, for better or worse, a silence so deep you couldn't even hear a breath flowed. Every single person was captivated by Graham-san, their hearts seized to the point of breathlessness—I know this because I am here among them.

Cutting down monsters with overwhelming power, and annihilating enemies out of reach of his katana with magic that would make even a Sage pale. What was there was the unmistakable figure of a hero, and I can declare that no human who enjoys battle could fail to be captivated by this figure.

"............H-He really was still hiding his power. I heard he could use magic... but I never imagined it was magic to this extent."

"Neither did I. To think he had such magic when we fought in the Exchange Match... No, it means he didn't even need to use magic of this level. —Fufu, Hahahaha! Amazing, truly amazing. Jack, let's burn this into our eyes. Right now, we are able to witness with our own eyes something even greater than a heroic saga!"

There is no one here who would laugh at Julian shouting that in excitement. Everyone thought the same thing, and with the excitement of witnessing a fragment of legend—the fact that we were being attacked by the Demon King's Army vanished from my mind, and my heart began to pound louder than it ever had in my life.
