Chapter 155
Training
Translator : PolterGlast
Three days have passed in the blink of an eye since Ginia
and Aoi started living with us. During this time, we were constantly
bustling about with moving and shopping for furniture, but it feels like we’ve
finally regained some composure.
Intending to relax with a cup of coffee, I headed to the
living room, only to find Aoi, who had woken up before me, sitting
there. I thought I had woken up early, but she was up quite early herself.
"Ah, good morning, Graham! Are you going to go
take requests starting today?"
"No, I intend to take today off as well. It’s been busy
one way or another, so I want to take it easy today."
Since the reward for the Cruhamilion was better than
I imagined, we have some time to relax. I plan to take it slow today and switch
gears to face requests starting tomorrow.
"Ehh! Then give me some training today! We’ve been so
busy with everything that we haven't been able to do anything!"
"I was thinking of doing something about the ores I
received... but I suppose the morning is fine. Understood. I’ll train you in
the courtyard today."
"Yay! Alright then, train me right now before Ginia
wakes up!"
Aoi was
trying to get a head start, but jumping straight into training immediately
after waking up is a bit too harsh. I intended to drink coffee, so training
will have to wait until I've toasted some bread and relaxed a little.
"We’ll do it after breakfast, obviously. I just woke
up; let me relax a bit until my body wakes up."
"Ehh! If we don't hurry, everyone else will wake
up!"
Aoi was
grumbling next to me, but I ignored her, brewing coffee while toasting bread
and enjoying a slow breakfast. By the time I finished, everyone else had woken
up, causing Aoi to puff out her cheeks and look away.
"Good morning, Graham-san. ...Why is Aoi-chan
sulking?"
"She wanted me to train her before everyone else woke
up, but she's pouting because I started eating breakfast."
"Fufu, that is very like Aoi-chan. Trying to get
a head start is no good, you know."
"Boo! Ginia, you always try to get a head start
too!"
"...Hey, what's training? Can I get trained too?"
"If you have the motivation, I'll train you."
"Graham-sama, I want to do it too!"
"C-Can I join as well?"
"Ah! I was the first one to wake up early and
negotiate, you know!"
Prompted by Gree's question, Ria and Anne
also announced their desire to be trained. Tricia looked like she wanted
to say something to Ria and the others, but since we're at it, maybe it
would be good for everyone to train today.
There is no harm in becoming stronger, after all. However,
if that's the case, we definitely don't have enough wooden swords, so someone
has to go buy them.
"Aoi. Since I decided to train everyone today,
could you go buy five wooden swords?"
"Ehh, why me! Let's all go together!"
"Aoi, you've already finished breakfast, right?
In exchange for going, I'll set aside a longer time for your personal training."
"Graham-san, that is unfair! I don't need
breakfast, so I want to go!"
"Yay! I'm going!"
Leaving behind Ginia, who seemed like she wanted to
go in her stead, Aoi flew out of the house as if her earlier reluctance
was a lie. In any case, let's finish eating before Aoi comes back.
Aoi dashed
into a nearby weapon shop and returned with the wooden swords in about twenty
minutes. In the meantime, we finished breakfast and were ready to move at any
time.
"Okay, okay! I bought them, so give me personal
instruction first!"
"No, first I'll teach Ria and the others how to
swing a sword. If I don't teach them anything, they'll just be watching while I
instruct you, Aoi."
"Ehh! ... Well,
your reasoning makes sense, so fine!"
Having Aoi, who had volunteered first, wait for a
moment, I decided to teach the three complete amateurs—Ria, Gree,
and Anne—how to swing a sword. First... I have to teach them how to grip
it.
"Grip it with your right hand a little away from the
pommel. The correct way to hold a sword is not to place your left hand on the
wrapping, but to grip it a little away from your right hand."
"Right hand on top and left hand on the bottom? Graham-sama,
is this right?"
"Yeah, that's correct. With that stance, try swinging
it down from top to bottom first."
Ria
immediately adopted the grip I taught her and began performing overhead
strikes. Perhaps because of her high athletic ability, she already looked quite
the part despite having just been taught.
"...The grip doesn't feel right. I'm left-handed; can't
I put my left hand on top?"
"No, you can't. If you put your left on top, you end up
exposing your heart, which is your biggest weak point. Besides, fundamentally,
you'll be moving the sword mainly with your left hand, so being left-handed
should actually make it easier."
"Heh, so there's a clear reason even for the
stance..."
"Graham-san, how is my stance?"
"Perfect. Anne, try swinging the sword
too."
Gree seemed to
find it difficult to grip, but he seemed convinced by the reason and was trying
out the stance exactly as taught. Anne seemed to lack muscle strength
and looked like she was being swung by the wooden sword... but as she
grows and gains muscle, she should be able to swing it properly.
"It's surprisingly difficult and tiring... but
fun!"
"I'm glad to hear that. Gree, your grip is
perfect too. For now, you three continue swinging the sword in that stance.
Make sure to take breaks properly when you get tired."
"Okaaay!"
This should be fine for now. Truthfully, I want to add detailed corrections, but initially, letting them do it freely should help them grow more. Feeling a bit reluctant to leave the three swinging their swords, I headed toward Aoi, who was looking at me with eyes full of expectation.
