Chapter 162
Detour
Translator : PolterGlast
Despite various
things happened before our departure, we managed to leave Biodasdal
safely. Since Klingark is quite far, we are traveling by carriage as
planned.
"The little ones were so noisy, but we managed to
leave! It's because you said something weird, Graham, that they kept
demanding mock battles afterwards. It was a disaster!"
"It's your fault for letting your mouth slip, Aoi.
But all three of them seemed to be having fun swinging their swords. My only
worry was that they might lose motivation after being so thoroughly beaten by
you."
"All three of them aren't that weak, so they'll be
fine. In fact, after losing to Aoi-chan, they've started asking me to
teach them swordsmanship even more."
"Eh? Those three don't challenge you to mock battles, Ginia?"
"No. It seems they only recognize Aoi-chan as
the enemy. I feel like I've been placed in the position of an ally helping them
defeat her."
"What the heck is that?! That makes me look like the
only villain!"
Aoi lamented
with a weird look on her face, but considering her usual behavior—not just this
incident—it was her own fault. Her mental age is completely on par with the
three of them; she gets into petty arguments with them at every turn, so she
likely became a good target for them. Despite my complaints, it actually helps
that Aoi treats them as equals.
"Don't treat it as a hassle; just be their opponent.
It'll be good practice for you too, Aoi."
"Well, playing with the little ones is fun, so I don't
mind! If anything, maybe I'll beat them to a pulp and make them stronger in the
process!"
"And I will instruct the three of them so they can win
against that version of you, Aoi-chan."
The mock battle was intended to make them give up, but
things seem to be rolling in a better direction than expected. I’d be happy if Tricia
and Maud would join the circle a bit more, but since they aren't
children, they view us as masters, which makes it difficult.
Racking my brain for any good ideas, I continued to be
swayed by the carriage—and before I knew it, we had arrived at the stopover
town. Given the travel time, it felt like a fairly short distance, only about
half a day.
"We're here already! ...Oh, it's a surprisingly big
town!"
"There's apparently another town a bit further ahead,
but the Guild Master told me we should stop at this one, so I made this our
first stopover."
"A town with the Guild Master's seal of approval. Is
there something famous here?"
"According to the Guild Master, there's a shop where
you can eat the most delicious desserts."
"Desserts, huh... I was hungry, so I would have
preferred a restaurant with good food!"
"I'm happy! I don't know if you remember, but my
original goal in coming to Biodasdal was to become a Pâtissier! I
love desserts and sweets!"
Of course I remembered. A big reason I wanted to stop here
was to let Ginia try them. She was even happier than I expected, so
making this our first stop was a good call.
"Of course I remembered. I stopped here specifically
because I wanted you to try them, Ginia. We're definitely going."
"Thank you so much! I'm
really looking forward to it!"
"Just make sure you feed me meat for dinner!"
In contrast to Ginia,
who was bouncing with joy, Aoi was
rather unenthusiastic. Admittedly, I'm hungry too, so I sympathize more with Aoi's mood, but seeing Ginia look this happy, I can't bring
myself to say, "Let's save dessert for later."
Enduring our hunger, we headed to the location the Guild
Master had told me about... and there was a line that identified the shop at a
glance. Generally, sweets and dessert shops are populated mostly by women, but
there were many men lining up here as well. For a guy like me, that alone
raised my expectations.
"Is that the shop over there? Let's see... Beurre
Soleil?"
"That's the name. That's the place, no mistake."
"There's such a huge line! It really is a famous
store!"
We joined the very back of the line, peering into the shop
as we waited for our turn. From what I could see inside, there were things that
looked like cakes, but I couldn't tell exactly what kind of food it was.
Entering the shop with high expectations, the sweet scent of
baked dough and the delicious smell of chocolate tickled my nostrils. We took
our seats and ordered the popular items along with a few things that caught our
eye.
As we waited, the desserts we ordered arrived quickly,
accompanied by tea. There were four types of cake-like items on the plate.
A cream cake using generous amounts of fresh fruit, a
pancake with sear marks that looked a bit hard, a roll cake coated in chocolate
with chocolate whipped cream, and a pure white, fluffy sponge cake—four types
in total. aside from the pancake, they all looked delicious. Or rather, they
were definitely going to be delicious.
Maintaining my high expectations, I put a piece of the fruit
cake into my mouth first. —It's good! The fruit must be of high quality because
it was delicious, and the cream enhanced the flavor even further.
Riding the wave of excitement, I tried the chocolate roll
cake, and it too was exceptionally delicious. Several types of chocolate were
used, but each brought out a different flavor, creating a perfect taste.
The sponge cake was also packed with a sweet cheese cream
filling, making it outstandingly tasty. Finally, the pancake, which I hadn't
expected much from... betrayed my expectations. For me, this pancake was the
most delicious of all.
It looked hard, but the texture was incredibly chewy and
fluffy. Inside were several types of cream; no matter where you bit into it, it
was fresh and offered a constant taste of perfection.
I had come here looking forward to Ginia's reaction,
but I ended up eating without looking aside... It was absolutely delicious. I
have to admit, stopping here just for the sake of this shop was definitely the
right call.
