[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 178

Chapter 178

Unfamiliar Monster

Translator : PolterGlast

The next day. Since Ginia and Aoi had fully recovered, we decided to return immediately as planned.

Greg had arranged a carriage for the return trip, and I had Ginia and Aoi ride in it along with the souvenirs I had bought. As for me, since I had to carry the large black egg back, I decided to run home.

"Well then, I'll see you again in Biodasdal."

"Graham-san, please be careful on your way back."

"That's totally unnecessary worry! We have to pass through another town, so if anything, we're the ones in danger!"

"It's just as Aoi says. I think you two will be fine, but please do be careful."

"Yes. We will be careful."

"See you later then!"

After seeing the two of them off, I decided to run back to Biodasdal. Since I could take the shortest route and move faster than a carriage, I should arrive in Biodasdal by the end of the day if nothing happens.

One thing that concerned me was that this egg was gradually starting to heat up. Perhaps because it was a Red Wyvern's egg, it was now so hot that I couldn't hold it without using Ice Magic.

I wanted to get it to Bane before it hatched. Feeling annoyed at having to use Ice Magic while running, I continued to sprint toward Biodasdal with all my might.

About ten hours after leaving Klingark. Since I kept running without taking a break, I managed to arrive at Biodasdal before the egg hatched.

I really wanted to take a breather, but since the egg was getting hotter even while I ran, I decided to head straight to Bane without stopping in the city. As I proceeded along the deserted old abandoned road, I saw someone standing in my way, blocking my path.

I didn't sense any hostility, so I figured they were Bane's subordinates... but they were definitely not the usual Ghost Wizards. There were two of them: a bright red skeletal monster with glowing black eyes dressed like a Samurai similar to me, and a bright blue skeletal monster with a knight-like appearance wielding a jet-black greatsword and a large shield.

The red bone one was about my size but radiated a glaring aggressiveness, while the blue bone one was over three meters tall and exuded a stability like a massive tree. Both gave off an aura that suggested they were no ordinary monsters, so I reached for my katana just in case. Just because they hadn't shown hostility yet didn't mean they weren't monsters related to the Demon King.

"Who are you? What is Bane doing?"

"—Graham-sama! Have you forgotten us?!"

"We knew we weren't in your sights, but being forgotten is a bit painful...!"

It seemed these monsters knew me, but I had absolutely no recollection of them. Monsters I fought somewhere? No, their tone was respectful... Ah.

"............Could you be Aka and Yoru?"

"—Yes, that's right! You remembered us?!"

"Just being remembered makes me happy!"

"It's not so much that I remembered, but rather that there's no trace of your original forms, so I couldn't tell. Does this mean you evolved further through naming?"

"That is correct! By receiving names from you, Graham-sama, we were able to evolve just like Bane-sama!"

"I manage the Western Forest where the Berserk Bear ruled. Aka manages the Southern Plains where the Ogre ruled!"

I named them because the situation left me no choice, but it seems that no matter the monster, naming them causes dramatic evolution. It looks like even their personalities have changed. It was good to hear that they are being useful by managing the places that lost their masters... but giving names is really something to think carefully about. I was so surprised by Aka and Yoru that the Red Wyvern egg almost became an afterthought.

"Is that so? I'm glad you're working hard."

"This is all thanks to Graham-sama and Bane-sama!"

"So, what business brings you here this time? Does it have something to do with that monster egg?"

"Yeah, that's right. I came thinking I'd ask Bane a few things, but could you tell this black mass was a monster egg, Yoru?"

"Yes! I have seen many monster eggs, and while this one appears large, the resemblance was striking! Besides... I believe it will likely hatch in a few hours!"

"Agreed! There is a slight crack in the upper section!"

Since I could only use one hand and was holding it in an awkward position, I hadn't seen it, but had it already cracked? I didn't feel any movement yet, so I thought it would take a little longer to hatch... but it seems I should hurry and show this to Bane.

"I didn't notice because I couldn't see it. Can you guide me to Bane immediately?"

"Of course! He is inside the mansion, so please follow me!"

"I will carry the egg! Graham-sama, please follow Aka and head straight to Bane-sama immediately."

"In that case, I'm counting on you. It's hot, so be careful."

"Thank you for your concern!! However, I am Undead, so I am fine!"

After watching Yoru lift the Red Wyvern egg with ease, I followed Aka and headed toward Bane. I had carried it all the way from Klingark, so it wasn't strictly necessary to have him hold it... but saying that would be boorish. Without saying anything unnecessary, I did as told and headed for the mansion where Bane was.
