[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 184

Chapter 184

Crushing to Death

Translator : PolterGlast

I returned to Furo Village with Nagi and Ran, and was welcomed by everyone in the village for the first time in a while. They threw something like a banquet for me. As Ran had said, it seemed to be peace itself after I left, and they appeared to have been living happily.

In addition to that, it seems there was a huge harvest this year, apparently the best year ever. I had come to check on them out of worry, but peace really is the best thing. Seeing everyone's faces after so long, I was able to enjoy the banquet from the bottom of my heart.

And then, the next day. I stayed in the house I had yielded to Ran and Nagi, and I woke up holding my head.

The alcohol made in Furo Village has a high alcohol content, and coupled with drinking a large amount for the first time in ages, I had gotten drunk. I looked around the room, but there was no sign of Nagi and Ran.

Judging by the angle of the sun, it was already before noon, so they might have gone to patrol the vicinity. Feeling nostalgic about the daily duties I performed when I lived in Furo Village, I decided to go look for the two of them.

The locations where dangerous monsters appear near Furo Village are generally fixed. To patrol those spots, I decided to go around in reverse order to meet up with them. I could have chased after them, but I didn't know exactly where they were, and circling from the opposite direction made meeting them more certain.

With that thought, I started the patrol, but monsters swarmed out from the very first spot. Coral Shisa—large, four-legged monsters characterized by their sharp fangs.

Worst of all, they moved in a pack and had keen noses, so I was found immediately. If I was going to fight, I wanted to catch them off guard, and ideally, I wanted to wait until Nagi and Ran arrived, but since I was found, it couldn't be helped.

"Purifying Fire: Komainu."

Four legs against four legs—with that in mind, I immediately chanted Purifying Fire: Komainu. The flaming guardian dogs that appeared before me attacked the Coral Shisa all at once, but the Coral Shisa were overwhelmingly faster.

With monsters up until now, just attacking with Purifying Fire: Komainu would have burned them to ash, but the Coral Shisa didn't try to fight head-on. They focused entirely on dodging the Purifying Fire: Komainu, making them impossible to catch. They understood that my magic was dangerous and instinctively knew that by buying time, they could drain my magic power.

This is the strength of the monsters in this vicinity, and while they are troublesome... I had already anticipated they would take such action. On my end, the Purifying Fire: Komainu were merely a trap, activated to act like sheepdogs to corner them into a targeted spot.

To finish them off all at once with ultra-high firepower magic, I chased them around with the Komainu to make them bunch up in one place without them realizing it. And, aiming for the moment the Coral Seasar pack gathered in one spot—

"Gravity Magic: Impact."

By maximizing the output, the gathered Coral Shisa were all crushed to death. It was a gruesome sight, but I couldn't afford to hold back.

I fought for the first time in a while, and I was forced to re-recognize that the monsters around Furo Village are indeed strong. It was a harvest to know my senses haven't dulled, but the difference in monster strength is still concerning.

"Why don't you two stop hiding and come out?"

"Geh! We were busted!"

"Muu. Ran was bad at hiding."

"I'm worse than Nagi, but it's definitely not just my fault!"

Coming out from the shade of a distant tree were Nagi and Ran, who must have been watching me fight. Just like me yesterday, they seemed to be trying to sneak up and surprise me, but because my senses were sharpened, I was able to notice immediately.

"No need for weird bickering. Were there any monsters on your end?"

"Nope! There weren't any big monsters!"

"Nn. I think the monsters Graham-san defeated were the strongest."

"We're really lucky! Monsters on the level of a Coral Seasar pack haven't appeared in the last month!"

"Is that so? The pack was certainly troublesome, but if they haven't appeared for a month... it really has become peaceful."

Listening to Nagi and Ran, I understood that the area around Furo Village had indeed become peaceful. Perhaps they poured the entirety of the Demon King's Army into that army led by the Ancient Dragon. I didn't think so at the time, but now I think that might be the case.

"Nn. But being too peaceful is boring too."

"It does feel lacking! Not that I go looking for danger, though!"

I couldn't help but laugh at the two of them sounding just like Ginia and Aoi despite living in Furo Village. Despite experiencing so much at a young age, they are tough, or perhaps...

"I understand the feeling, but peace is definitely the best."

"Nn. We know that."

"But, we lack stimulation! Hey, hey, give us a practical training session for the first time in ages! We might actually win!"

"We became strong."

"I don't mind, but... I won't hold back, okay?"

"Yay! Come at us with full power, of course!"

So, we decided to hold a training session for the two of them while patrolling. Judging by the battle with the Thunder Scale yesterday, they certainly seem to have grown, but I can't afford to lose just yet. I shall fight with all my might.
