[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 183

Chapter 183

Twins

Translator : PolterGlast

Relying on my memory, I ran for about three days after leaving the village, aiming for Furo Village. I knew it was far, but I was surprised to find it was even further than I had imagined.

I had assumed it took a long time before simply because I was walking, but even after a long running, I felt no sign of arriving. It took three whole days before I finally saw familiar scenery. A path that only beasts could pass through, and with no towns or villages to stop at along the way, I convinced myself that it was no wonder no one ever came here as I defeated the attacking monsters and aimed for Furo Village.

As expected, the closer I got to Furo Village, the stronger the monsters became, making it nearly impossible to continue running. It was obvious that if I were taken by surprise from behind, I would suffer injuries, so I braced myself and thoroughly slaughtered every monster I encountered.

Proceeding through the familiar terrain with even greater concentration than when I fought the Demon King's Army, I saw someone fighting a short distance away. The monster was a Thunder Scale, attacking while clad in lightning, but the person was handling the Thunder Scale without any trouble. Even from a distance, I could tell they were strong.

There were only two people who possessed that kind of power in this area. Just as I thought that, another person appeared from the back—and slashed right through the Thunder Scale.

As I suspected, those two were Nagi and Ran. They were the sisters I had trained up; it was precisely because these two were there that I was able to leave the village without lingering regrets.

"Piece of cake! I heard a strong monster was prowling around, but it was totally weak!"

"Nn. Weak."

"Then you should have killed it alone, Nagi! Since I won't interfere until I arrive!"

"I don't want to because I'll get dirty killing it."

"But I get dirty too, you know?!"

Feeling nostalgic at their conversation, I decided to close the distance instantly to surprise them. It might seem mean of me, but their reactions are always amusing, after all.

Erasing my presence, I approached rapidly without making a sound. I thought my stealth was perfect, but they seemed to notice once I got within a certain distance; Nagi was the first to ready her weapon.

"Ran, hide. Something is coming."

"I know! The 'strong monster' wasn't that last one, it's definitely this one!"

Ran hid behind Nagi, taking a stance to look for an opening to counterattack. Their movements were flawless, and their combination seemed even more polished than before. Since I had been spotted, I decided to quietly reveal myself.

"Neither of you seem to have gotten rusty at all. I didn't expect to be detected at such an early stage."

"—Ehh!? Graham!! Is it really Graham!?"

"You came back? We were worried because you didn't contact us."

"I didn't have a way to contact you. Are you two and everyone in the village doing well?"

"It really is Graham!! Yaaay!! Graham came back!"

Ran wasn't listening to a word I said, simply rejoicing. It was good that she was happy, but I wanted an answer to my question.

"I can't hear anything, so stop making so much noise. Is everyone healthy?"

"Nn. They're doing well. Since Graham-san left, the Demon King's Army hasn't come even once."

"That's right! The monsters appearing near the village aren't big deals either; it feels like peace itself! More importantly... I'm happy you came back!"

Ran jumped onto my back, and Nagi, not wanting to lose to Ran, hugged my arm. Their personalities and appearances were polar opposites, but their roots were similar, giving the impression that they were indeed twins.

Loud, tanned, red hair with upturned eyes: that was Ran. Quiet, pale skin, blue hair with drooping eyes: that was Nagi. They appeared to be fraternal twins, not looking exactly alike. They resembled each other less in looks and personality than typical sisters; I thought they were a truly rare type of twins.

"I'm really glad you two seem healthy. I brought souvenirs, so let's head back to Furo Village for now."

"I bet everyone in the village will be happy too! Today is a super good day!"

"Nn. I'm glad you came back. I thought I'd never see you again."

"I left the village intending never to return too, you know. But it wasn't surprisingly far, and since it was a distance I could return to periodically, I ended up coming back."

Three full days of sprinting couldn't be called close, but it certainly wasn't a distance that made returning impossible. If anything, having been given such a grand send-off, I felt more awkward about returning than anything else.

"Is that so! I want to hear all kinds of stories from you, Graham-san!"

"I want to hear various stories too, so tell me."

"Nn. There weren't really any incidents, though."

Rejoicing in my reunion with Nagi and Ran after so long, we decided to return to Furo Village. I had been worried because there was movement from the Demon King's Army, but for now, I was relieved that nothing seemed to be happening here.

I had thought that if they were to move an army larger than the one that tried to attack the Royal Capital, they would have to pass through Furo Village... but perhaps the Demon King's Army really has changed its movements. I'll think about that after hearing the details; for now, let's just enjoy the reunion.
