An Interesting Request

After finishing the introduction to the Red Wyvern
child, Veronica and Mona returned to the city of Klingark.
They seemed bewildered at first, but judging from their reactions, it didn't
look like there would be any problems. I'm glad I introduced it to the two.
Now then, partly because of Veronica and Mona's
sudden visit, I haven't done anything since returning from Furo Village.
Since things have settled down, I suppose I should start making various moves.
"Good morning, Graham! Now that Veronica and Mona
went home, are we resuming requests starting today?"
"No, I'm thinking of going to look around various cities
for a bit. I believe I mentioned this the other day, but it seems the Demon
King's Army is making moves over here to gather military strength. I plan
to track down monsters deemed dangerous and gather information on the Demon
King's Army."
"Ehh! Does that mean Ginia and I will be
completing requests as a duo?"
"I would appreciate it if you did."
"Ugh... I thought we would be able to go on a request
together with you for the first time in a while, Graham-san... This is a
shock."
Ginia was visibly
depressed. Hmm... I wouldn't mind going on a request together just for today,
but requests in Biodasdal can easily be handled by just Ginia and
Aoi, after all. Given that the two of them have grown, my presence would
be excessive fighting power.
"I wouldn't mind accompanying you if there were any
strong monsters, but there are only requests that you two can easily
handle."
"Then take us with you on that information gathering!
That way we can act together, right?"
"That's even more out of the question. It takes time to
move if I bring you two along. Moving from city to city would result in a
considerable loss of time."
"Which means, Aoi-chan and I have no choice but
to complete requests by ourselves, then."
Truthfully, I wanted to take the two of them along, but this
particular matter is difficult. Seeing them both so downhearted made my heart
ache a little.
"...Alright. Let's do a request together just for
today. We'll take it easy and complete a request while still somewhat in a
vacation mood."
"Really!? But, will that be alright?"
"It's not like the Demon King's Army is trying
to gather forces at a rapid pace, and it's not a matter that requires rushing.
It's fine."
"Yay! In that case, let's do a request chosen by the
receptionist lady for the first time in a while! She passes interesting
requests our way, after all!"

the day off."
And so, we decided to complete a request with the three of
us today, and my earnest movements would begin tomorrow. Arriving at the Adventurer's
Guild right away, we looked for the usual receptionist lady.
"Ah, there she is! Sophie-san! We've come to
accept a request!"
"Aoi-san, Ginia-san, and Graham-san
is here today too. It might be the first time in a while I've seen the three of
you gathered together."
The receptionist, Sophie-san, attended to us with a
smile. I hadn't known her name, but it seemed Aoi had managed to find it
out.
And on Sophie-san's chest was a gold badge—a badge
proving she is an excellent receptionist. Since I had asked the Guild Master to
raise Sophie-san's salary, her pay should have gone up along with
receiving this badge.
"I haven't been able to come to the Adventurer's Guild
much. I feel like it's been a while since I talked to you, too."
"That is certainly true. It was often the case that
either Aoi-san or Ginia-san came to accept requests, after all.
So... what kind of request did you come to accept today?"
"Today we came wanting to accept a Sophie-choice
request! Do you have any interesting requests?"
"An interesting request? If it doesn't have to be a
high-difficulty one, I have one good request."
It seemed she had an interesting request in mind. As
expected of Sophie-san.
"It doesn't have to be high-difficulty. By all means,
introduce that request to us."
"Understood! Let's see... Do you know that there is a
large river if you head southeast?"
"Yeah. I've seen it because it's a pretty large river.
If I recall... it's past the forest where we gathered Great Lemons,
right?"
"Yes, that's correct! There are rumors that a huge
monster's shadow was seen in that river, and I would like you, Graham-san,
and the others to confirm the identity of that monster."
"Hm? Just confirmation is fine, not a subjugation
request?"
"Yes. It's at the rumor level, and we don't even know
if it actually exists yet, so confirmation is the request this time. According

that a ridiculous monster is lurking there."

exists."
"If it does exist, and we judge it to be dangerous, we
might issue a subjugation request as well. Since it's a monster in the river,
it's highly likely it won't be deemed dangerous, though!"
"If a subjugation request is issued, we'll go ahead and
accept that as well. Subjugating a monster in the river sounds interesting,
after all."
"Thank you very much! Please take care of it!"
"Likewise, thanks for the interesting request."
After conveying my thanks to Sophie, we left the Adventurer's
Guild. Confirmation of a monster-class creature that might be in the river.
Honestly, since I haven't sensed any monster reactions
fitting that description, the possibility of it being there is low... but it's
an extremely exciting request. I accepted the request with the goal of enjoying
the journey, but I'm glad it seems the request itself will be unexpectedly
enjoyable too.
