[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 200

Chapter 200

Searching for the Demon Bird

Translator : PolterGlast

Heading north from the city of Brembia for about three hours. I arrived at the foot of Denarifel Mountain.

Because it was visible from the city of Brembia, being able to get here without getting lost was a huge plus. The Meteor Demon Bird seems to be a rather strong monster, as I can clearly sense its presence.

It's quite a high mountain, but thanks to that presence, it looks like I'll be able to head straight to the Meteor Demon Bird without losing my way. While remaining vigilant, I began my ascent of Denarifel Mountain with a light step.

About another hour passed after I started climbing. I've strayed from the mountain path now and am walking by relying on the presence... but it looks like a deep, natural forest, with trees growing thickly all around.

Judging by the presence, it should be around here, but so far I haven't been able to confirm the figure of the Meteor Demon Bird. It's just a guess, but it's either flying high in the sky or has built a nest in a high place.

I have plenty of time, so I could just wait for it to show itself, but since the Crimsonroid ended in a dud, I'm reluctant to waste any more time. Thinking that, I decided to fly into the sky to search for the Meteor Demon Bird.

Casting "Gravity Magic: Zero" on myself, I jumped high into the sky. Easily surpassing the tall trees, I was able to overlook the entire area.

Even in this state, I still couldn't confirm the figure of the Meteor Demon Bird... but I found one suspicious spot. There was a large hole near the top of a cliff, and I felt like I saw beautiful feathers reflecting the sunlight.

There's a possibility it's the Meteor Demon Bird's nest, so let's try heading over there. Having arrived from the ground to the bottom of the cliff I spotted earlier, I began climbing the cliff aiming for the hole near the top.

I could just jump using "Gravity Magic: Zero" like before, but adjusting the jump is surprisingly difficult. Just jumping high is easy, but jumping to a targeted spot is extremely difficult.

And so, I climbed the cliff and arrived at the place that looked like a nest hole. I noticed while climbing, but there is something inside this hole.

I don't know if this is the Meteor Demon Bird, but there is no doubt that it's the strong creature I had been sensing since coming to Denarifel Mountain. Even so... it's a presence that feels considerably strong.

It is definitely a level above a Red Ogre or a Berserk Bear. If this is a 2-Star (2), then if it came down to fighting the 3-Star (3) Crimsonroid, I might have to prepare thoroughly.

While thinking such things, I climbed all the way up to the nest hole—but the first thing I felt was a strong sense of incongruity. I came here because I saw beautiful feathers when I jumped, but the number of fallen feathers was abnormal.

I'm not familiar with the ecology of the Meteor Demon Bird, and there's a possibility it's a monster that sheds feathers easily, but even so, the way the feathers were scattered gave off a gruesome feeling. Because wind doesn't blow from the back of the nest hole, I hadn't noticed until now, but a terrible stench of blood and death is coming from deep inside.

Has something extraordinary happened, or did the Meteor Demon Bird simply consume prey inside its nest? ...No, it's just a feeling, but there's a presence suggesting something other than the Meteor Demon Bird is inside the nest hole.

Judging from the way these feathers are scattered, there's a high probability the Meteor Demon Bird was killed by that something. Having deduced that from the bizarre state of the nest, I decided to proceed further inside for now.

Because the smell is trapped, the foul odor grows stronger with every step. What lay deep inside that nest was the corpse of a giant blue avian monster.

And then, standing completely still in front of that bird's corpse was a humanoid something. Its bizarre atmosphere alone told me that it was not human.

"I was hoping you wouldn't come, but you came anyway. But... a human, huh. I don't feel any strength from you at all; I might be able to take you down easily."

"Who are you? What were you doing here?"

"Let's kill you quickly and go home early. I got all dirty because of this shitty bird, after all."

Its demeanor suggested it hadn't heard a word I said. Perhaps it already felt like it had killed me; even though I was standing right in front of it, it seemed to pay me no mind at all.

In its hands were two blood-drenched curved swords. It was dressed like a clown, with pure white skin and a red nose.

I couldn't tell if it was wearing makeup or if this was its true appearance. Despite its small stature of about 150 centimeters, the fact that it killed the Meteor Demon Bird showed that it was highly capable.

"I don't mind if you ignore me, but I'll be forcing the answers out of you."

"A small fry sure is chirping loudly. It's truly an eyesore seeing a human speak the language of the Demon Race."

After spitting those words out with a harsh tone, the clown-dressed member of the Demon Race launched an attack. Given that it said 'language of the Demon Race', there's no doubt this guy is a Demon Race.

My understanding was that the Demon Race could also speak human languages, but from their perspective, it feels like we humans are speaking the language of the Demon Race. It has nothing to do with the battle, but this might have been a bit of a new perspective.

While dodging the ever-changing attacks utilizing the curved swords, I pondered such things. Even so... it fights just like a human.

I could sense a high level of combat knowledge in the way it moved to strike at my openings while making full use of technique and feints. This Demon Race is exactly what I would have liked to let Ginia and Aoi fight against, but since it has a human form, it might be a bit difficult for them to fight.

—Whoops, it would be pitiable for this Demon Race who is fighting with all its might if I keep thinking about unnecessary things. I should get a bit serious on my end too and make it talk. Flipping a switch within myself, I decided to shift to the offensive.
