Chapter 206
Subjugation Report
Translator : PolterGlast
Since it had a resistance to the fire attribute, I dared to
counter it with fire magic, but... because of that, I had a hard time with the
harvesting work. I don't know what material it's made of, but it was hardened rock-solid,
and its durability was on another dimension.
I somehow succeeded in extracting the part covering the
core, but because it had melted and fused together from being burned, any
further harvesting would be tough time-wise. Truthfully, I wanted to bring back
other parts as well, but because I burned it out of curiosity, I have no choice
but to give up on the rest.
I tend to lose my cool a little when it comes to combat, so
I really need to think a bit more when fighting. Regarding monsters whose materials
look like they'd sell for a high price, I absolutely will not use
fire-attribute magic, including Purifying Fire. After admonishing myself
like that, I returned to the city of Locorante.
The city of Locorante had become noisier than when I
departed. Seeing the people fleeing in a panic, it seemed the news of the Crimsonroid
leaving the ruins had spread to the townspeople as well. Thinking about it
calmly, it would be safer to stay in the city rather than flee, but an
emergency is exactly what makes people lose their calm.
To quell this chaos as quickly as possible, I should hurry
and report the subjugation to the Guild Master. Pushing my way through the
crowd, I returned to the Adventurer's Guild and immediately made my way
to the Guild Master's office.
"Hm? You can come in! —Oh. You've returned already. So,
were there any clues in the ruins?"
"There was someone who seemed to be from the Demon
King's Army in the ruins, and tracking them led me to the Crimsonroid."
"Oh! You found the Crimsonroid! So, where was
the Crimsonroid?"
"In the forest past the ruins, on the side opposite to Locorante.
The member of the Demon King's Army was shot to death by the Crimsonroid
there, and the Crimsonroid tried to burn down the forest even further,
so I just defeated it."
".........Hm? Y-You just defeated it? A-Are you saying
you defeated the Crimsonroid all by yourself!?"
The Guild Master of Locorante had his mouth hanging
wide open in surprise, seemingly unable to believe my report. I fought not only
the Crimsonroid but also the masked human controlled by the Goblin,
but I think the fact that it was so fast time-wise is one of the reasons he
can't believe it.
"Yeah. I defeated the Crimsonroid. I properly brought
back materials from the Crimsonroid as proof of subjugation."
Saying that, I placed the parts I had harvested from around
the Crimsonroid's core onto the desk. It was covered in soot, but it was
a crimson, ultra-hard metal. Upon seeing the unmistakable parts of the Crimsonroid,
the Guild Master seemed to believe me immediately.
"I-It really is a part of the Crimsonroid...! To
go from discovery to subjugation in such a short amount of time, you were an
unbelievable adventurer, weren't you! I am truly sorry for treating you so
rudely without even asking your name!"
"There's no need to apologize. I'm still a B-Rank
adventurer, and even if I had given you my name, you wouldn't have granted me
permission to enter anyway."
"No. Even if that were the case, I shouldn't have
turned you away at the door. I promise that from now on, no matter who the person is, I will not judge them by their appearance!"
"You don't really have to make a promise like that to
me, but... well, I do think not judging by appearance is important for me as
well."
Judging by appearances is something I occasionally do too. I
end up doing it even though it causes me losses, so I need to follow the Guild
Master's example and be careful.
"Anyway, you were truly a great help this time. I will
definitely repay this debt someday."
"Yeah. I'll be looking forward to it. Well then, that
concludes my report, so I'll be heading back."
"Please leave the post-processing to us. The wreckage
of the Crimsonroid is in the forest past the ruins—is that
correct?"
"That's right. It stands out, so I think you'll be able
to find it immediately once you enter the forest."
"Thank you. You really saved us by going out of your
way to come here. If you need a carriage arranged, please let me know and we
will prepare one for you here."
"There's no need to prepare a carriage either. Well
then, excuse me."
After saying that to the Guild Master, who was bowing his
head repeatedly, I left the Guild Master's office. I didn't have a very good
impression of him since I was called immediately after being turned away at the
door, but because his handling of the situation after the subjugation was good,
my impression of the Guild Master of Locorante recovered considerably.
Not judging by appearances is important. Swearing to be careful myself, I departed from the still-noisy Adventurer's Guild and returned to Biodasdal.
