Chapter 222
King Garil
Translator : PolterGlast
Arriving at the Adventurer's Guild, I immediately
headed to Greg. He seemed to remember me, and I was immediately shown to
the Guild Master's office.
「Graham-san, it's been a while. Thank you once again for the matter
with the Dragon Zombie.」
The moment I entered the Guild Master's office, Greg
bowed his head with such momentum it looked like he was about to grovel on the
ground. He has apologized countless times, and I don't mind it at all on my
end, but it seems Greg still feels bothered by it.
「You don't need to bow your head
anymore. More importantly, I'd like to hear about what happened afterwards.」
「Thank you. Thanks to you, the
disease that had been spreading was safely brought to an end. However,
regarding the Dragon Zombie, we are still in the dark. We investigated
various things, but couldn't find anything... I am deeply sorry.」
Greg bowed his
head again right after I told him he didn't need to apologize. It's a shame
nothing was found, but if the epidemic has ended, then that's a complete
victory.
「It's good that the epidemic has
ended. Not being able to discover anything from the Dragon Zombie sucks, but there hasn't been anything else out of the ordinary,
right?」
「Yes. We strengthened the security
around Klingark, but so far no suspicious movements have been seen.」
「That's good to hear. I thought they
might make a move using the Dragon Zombie as a foothold, but with
nothing happening up to this point, perhaps I was overthinking it.」
There are various movements in different regions, but all of
them are isolated incidents. It shows that they aren't systematically trying to
invade the cities. It's probably the Demon King's Army's goal to cause
confusion to make it easier to operate, and for now, excessive vigilance isn't
necessary yet. Even so, they will eventually make a full-scale move, so we
can't afford to lower our guard either.
「I don't think you're overthinking
it. In reality, the situation is quite suspicious, so we will continue to
maintain our vigilance and security. I may consult with you as soon as we find
out anything, Graham-san.」
「Yeah. Consult me anytime. I'll help
out if it's something I can do. ...Also, I have one thing I want to ask: has Guanza
returned to Klingark?」
We were conversing with calm expressions, but the moment I
brought up Guanza's name, Greg's face contorted. It seems the
misunderstanding regarding me has been cleared up, but he still can't forgive Guanza,
it seems. Well, considering his past actions, I suppose it's natural.
「Guanza hasn't come here even once. I considered the possibility
that he might have come without permission, but since his face is known, the
likelihood of that is extremely low as long as there are no reports.」
「I see. If he was here I would have
liked to see him, but if he hasn't returned, it can't be helped.」
「Do you have some business with Guanza?
If you absolutely must meet him, I will have my people search for him.」
「No, I don't want to see him that
badly. Just let me know if he shows his face.」
「Understood. I will contact you
immediately when Guanza returns.」
After exchanging such a conversation, I left the Guild
Master's office. It wasn't like I obtained any new information, but just
knowing that peace is being maintained was good enough.
Now, as for what to do next... let's go check out the
monster from the wanted poster. I intend to leave the subjugation itself to Ginia
and Aoi, so I'll just stick to confirming it this time. Since it's a
4-Star (★4)
monster, I want to observe its abilities too.
And so, relying on the map, I decided to head to the
location where the wanted poster monster is. According to the information
obtained at the Adventurer's Guild and the details written on the wanted
poster, it should be somewhere in this forest. Since I could confirm multiple
strong presences, I decided to head in the direction emitting the strongest
presence for now.
Dashing through the forest, what I arrived at was a bizarre
space created by trees being snapped in
half. It looked like a makeshift fortress, and at the tips of
those snapped trees, various monsters and beasts were impaled. And the most
shocking thing of all was the figures of humann impaled on a tree alongside the monsters and beasts. They
were pierced through the abdomen while facing downwards; I couldn't tell the
details, but judging from their clothes, there was no doubt it was an
adventurer.
Beyond the trees impaled with such corpses was a humanoid
monster characterized by a large, pitch-black body. Its muscles were bulging so
much it was visible even from a distance, suggesting it was a considerable
power type. It matches the illustration on the wanted poster, so there's no
doubt this monster is the King Garil.
I quietly left the area so as not to be noticed by the King
Garil, which was beating its chest and drumming. Seeing the cruel act of
impaling its hunted prey on trees makes me somewhat reluctant to let Ginia
and Aoi fight it, but... well, it shouldn't be an unbeatable opponent. Ginia
is good at fighting power types, and if anything, there's even a possibility
she might win easily.
The only point of concern is, as expected, this location.
Having not just beasts and monsters, but even a person impaled here is an
extremely sickening feeling. Seeing as none of the corpses are rotting, it's
likely storing them as food, but... it's far too gruesome a sight.
I don't want to show it to them, but I also have the desire to let them gain experience. I'll explain it properly to them, and then let them decide what to do. While thinking about such things, I turned back the way I came and returned to the city of Klingark.
