[WN] Villainous Witch : Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Slurp, Slurp, Slurp

Translator : PolterGlast

I am actually a slime. That's a lie. I'm human.

Before I knew it, over ten slimes had gathered, wobbling around. One would appear, and then they'd bump into each other and split. And then they'd increase in number. By making full use of my cleaning skill + illusion skill, they mistook me for a cleaning slime. The level of my illusion skill had also risen to 2 without me noticing.

And after I became able to float about ten centimeters off the ground by using my flight skill and illusion skill, I realized that skills were like addition. I believed I could fly. And then I could fly. Since the flight skill was just Lv. 1, I should only be slightly floating off the ground, but by adding the illusion skill, I floated a little more.

What I considered fortunate here was that it was addition. If it had been multiplication, 1 multiplied by 1 is still 1, so I would have crashed into the ground the moment I fell off the cliff and my life would have ended.

The slimes were currently wriggling around beneath me.

"Slurp, slurp, slurp, slurp."

"No way. Their cries are awful. No way."

The trembling cries that I hadn't noticed when it was just one slime became somewhat understandable when there were ten of them. No, there were twelve of them now without me realizing. Since they thought of me as a comrade, they acted together with me. At first, they were just lined up next to me, but as their numbers increased, they let me ride on top of them. I just sat there in a formal kneeling position, and they steadily moved through the forest. They seemed to have an instinct to stick together after splitting, and after lifting me up, they seemed to be saying, "Huh? This one doesn't stick. That's strange," as they wobbled the core in their bellies, but I decided to just go along with them as they continued to move forward, thinking, "Oh well."

"Slurp, slurp, slurp, slurp."

Not a single weed remained where they passed. They were the forest's cleaners, swallowing even monster droppings. "Slurrrrp." Honestly, they were starting to seem a little cute.

My level wasn't high enough to completely transform my appearance, but I seemed to be able to change the perception of the surrounding monsters. Since there were many low-level monsters in this forest to begin with, it was safe to explore the surroundings even with just slimes, and cleaning slimes were apparently valued as cleaners and weren't targeted by monsters because they had no meat and weren't tasty.

Acquired Tamer Skill

Moreover, I had acquired some skill. Ever since the window display appeared, I had been particularly conscious of the existence of skills, and my senses were different from how they had been in my previous life. Maybe my innate talent was becoming easier to bloom. As expected of the game's most terrifying witch.

"But I was really lucky..."

I slowly moved through the forest, getting further away from the village. I repeatedly thought about how lucky I had been. Maybe it was because the cleaning slimes never had trouble finding food wherever they were, but they didn't seem to have a specific nest, so meeting them was a miracle. It was like a fateful encounter. While I thought that, I also felt like I was probably following a different route than Eldorado in the game. However, now that my memories of being a Japanese person who had lived peacefully had returned, I didn't think I could become a woman as full of vitality as she was.

Therefore, what I aimed for was a steady, slow life.

Demons, humans, revenge, and such difficult things made me sigh just thinking about them. So, what I cared about was having delicious food tomorrow. After tomorrow was the day after tomorrow, and after that was the day after that. Living peacefully day by day. So first of all.

"Let's just keep running away!"

"Heave-ho!" I thrust out one hand. "Slurrrrp slurrrrp," the transparent slimes under my feet continued to slurp. They were squishy and cool, which felt nice. The path they took as they moved freely was sparkling clean. They also seemed to be taking in food, which I envied. First, secure a safe place. Next, food. In that case.

"Let's aim for the city!"

I pictured the map of Cloudy Country in my head. The village where Eldorado was born was located at the edge of the leaf-shaped country. From there, it would be an unimaginable distance for a child's legs, but for the slimes' legs, it was only a few days away to the city. It was a place that had also been a setting in the game. Calculating backwards from the game's history, I couldn't say for sure that it was completely safe, but the disturbances that had occurred in the past should have caused relatively little damage to the citizens.

I didn't think a child could live alone in the forest forever. My eye color had changed to the red of a demon, but if I made good use of my skills, I might be able to live among humans.

When I muttered that I would abandon the name Eldorado, I was actually very apprehensive. When I asked the small girl in my heart, who had completely become me, she quietly nodded. I won't become a villain in a game. I don't know anything about saints. I'll just live a peaceful life. I'll become an adult.

"Let's go!"

The hand I thrust out was still very short.

If the bread tomorrow is delicious, that's all I need. I turned on the tamer skill I had just acquired. It seemed that by using the illusion skill, I could use multiple skills simultaneously. I looked at the explanation.

Can become friends with animals and monsters. Maybe

"Couldn't you be a little more clear?" I thought, but it was only Lv. 1, so maybe it couldn't be helped. Maybe it was because of the +1 from the addition effect, but the cleaning slimes started moving more energetically. "Ohh." They had been moving wherever they wanted without a fixed direction, but now I could change their destination if I asked.

"This is wonderful!" I thought, as I increased the number of slimes and continued on. I steadily moved forward. I couldn't say at all that the future was bright. The sky was heavily clouded and looked like it was about to cry, but it would definitely not rain.

It's okay, I can move forward.

***

Recently, strange reports have been coming in. The slimes around the city have suddenly disappeared. Slimes themselves are weak monsters, but they breed quickly and are excellent practice targets for adventurers and soldiers with insufficient experience, and their core can be crushed and drunk as moisture. Since they are also traded on the market as a beverage with a long shelf life, it was desirable to secure them regularly if possible.

Such voices from the citizens first reached the church, and if they could be confirmed there, things would be simple, but there were few priests with military power, and they couldn't possibly go directly. In that case, they would want to rely on adventurers, but the profits were small and the experience points from slimes were not rewarding. No one would take the job.

Therefore, it was not difficult to imagine that it would eventually be passed on to the knighthood, but the content was vague, with no clear objective for completing the request.

In the end, the task was passed down to the lowest ranks.

There was a young man with black hair. He had a sullen, displeased look, but his nose was remarkably well-shaped. Then, he roughly rubbed his nose with one hand. The handsome young man's beauty was ruined.

"Lotus, you're the one going? That's too bad. It's the southern forest, right?"

"Yeah. They want me to investigate the cause of the slime decrease. I don't know, that's just how it is."

"They should just leave it to the scholars,"  sighed a man, no more than 20 years old, who could hardly be described as a young man or a boy. He was dressed lightly for travel, but he firmly carried two swords at his waist. "That's for sure," seeing his colleague cracking a joke, he let out a slight smile. He was a man whose smile was hard to notice unless you looked closely, but strangely, he was well-liked.

"Well, I'll just go quickly and come back. There's probably nothing there anyway."
