Chapter 6
Even the Chickens
are Running Away
Translator : PolterGlast
Lately, I've been
deluding myself into thinking that maybe I could survive without even going to
a city, as long as I could somehow manage to get food.
The slimes multiplied
every time they bumped into each other, the level of my tamer skill also rose,
and I looked down at the ground while crossing my surprisingly short legs. The
slimes had piled up high, and although they should have only been cleaning
slimes, I felt like other kinds had mixed in somehow. They were almost like a
single living creature.
If I lost my balance
to the right, they would stretch out and bend. To the left. Stretch. Back to
the center. Stretch, stretch. They were taller than any clumsy trees, and
frankly, sticking out of the forest. A chicken-type monster flying in the sky
let out a never-before-heard cry of "Gogoggeeeeck!?" and fled back.
Sorry. It's amazing you can fly even though you're a chicken.
"Hoo..."
I sighed, pressing my
forehead with my small hand. The slimes were trembling very proudly. That
vibration reached me, and I shook violently up and down. I shook like crazy.
The vibration was intense. It was bad. And while shaking, I shouted.
"D-dissolve!!!
It's no good anymore, dissolve, we're dissolving!!!"
Frankly, I got too
carried away.
No, it's more like the
slimes' reproductive power and friend-making skills were stronger than I
imagined. Maybe they felt good sticking to each other, because they clung to me
in the center, and while they were just wobbling, it was fine, but more and
more surrounding slimes gathered, and it became impossible to manage.
Even just slimes, when
they gathered, became a very huge slime castle. Although there was the merit
that even other monsters were surprised and scared and didn't approach, it was
too conspicuous.
Waving a handkerchief
(of course, I didn't have one, so it was just a gesture) at the slimes that
were sadly leaving, stretching out their fluid bodies, I thought back on the
events of the past few days.
Riding on the slimes,
who were a cute number back then, I advanced towards the capital. That's
because even though I said I had played the game, I was just a normal player. I
didn't remember the detailed place names or terrain, and even when I was
Eldorado, she didn't have such knowledge. At most, I only understood roughly
how long it took for merchants to travel from the city to the village.
Eldorado, no, El now,
had just turned eight. Living alone in the forest was ridiculously impossible.
So, the only action I could think of was to go to a place where people didn't
know El.
Live buried in a place
with lots of people. Once I grew up to a certain extent and could take care of
myself, I could run away into the forest again.
While heading for the
capital, the slimes provided the water I was most worried about. Perhaps they
recognized me as some kind of wonderful slime because when they placed me in
the center, many companions would gather. They would offer me water with a
"nyorun," as if saying "Please accept this." I decided not
to think about the source of the water. But it was delicious.
The fact that the
ecosystem wasn't that different from around El's village worked in my favor for
food. I had no problem distinguishing between things like berries and
mushrooms. Since the climate didn't change drastically, there might be many of
the same plants within Cloudy Country. On the other hand, when crossing into
another leaf country, the climate would change drastically at the border.
The perpetual summer
country of Soleil, the never-ending rain of Leishan, Hail Land where people
lived with freezing cold. In each country, there was a guardian who would
become the protagonist Yuko's partner when she was summoned, and a demon who
would be the enemy. Cloudy Country might be the most normal in terms of climate
alone, I thought, and let out an indescribable sigh as I remembered the in-game
settings.
What on earth was God
thinking when he changed the countries into scattered leaves like this? Since
God exists everywhere, I couldn't afford to accidentally badmouth him and have
my luck lowered. So far, all I could see were skills and titles, though.
"Phew," I
breathed out and crossed my arms, looking around. I was currently quite close
to the capital. But what should I do from here? Would a gatekeeper suddenly
secure such a young girl who suddenly appeared? I tilted my head, wondering if
I should at least polish my illusion skill a bit more.
The window that
obstructed my vision was minimized at the right edge. I tapped it and expanded
it, just like when opening a computer screen. My name was displayed.
【Name】 Eldorado (8 years old)
【Skills】 Illusion Lv. 2, Flight Lv. 1, Cleaning Lv. 3, Tamer Lv. 2, Detection
Lv. 1
"It's increased
quite a bit..."
It was good that the
tamer level had risen, so I could now ask the monsters around to politely give
way to us. Maybe the detection skill was acquired because I was riding the
slime tank while being aware of my surroundings.
I think it's
definitely because I remembered my memories of being from another world that
skills are becoming easier to acquire. Leaving aside illusion and flight
skills, the other skills are things that even normal people might acquire if
they took their time, even if they didn't notice it. Since I can see my status,
I'm probably more likely to notice the remnants of skills and acquire them
easily. Anyway, it's a good thing. It's always better to have more power.
