Chapter 7
Gaining Detection
Skill

【Skill】 Detection Lv. 1
While displaying the
newly acquired skill before my eyes, I scratched my chin thoughtfully.
I had just reached a
water source, so I sat down on a suitable rock to check it out. It was surprisingly
comfortable despite being bumpy. As far as I could see, there were no monsters
around, so my one-person strategy meeting began.
"Detection,
huh?"
I re-examined the
skill closely.
Maybe this was a
pretty good skill after all. I tapped it lightly. The skill's explanation was
immediately displayed.
【You can vaguely sense things】
"Sense
what?"
I couldn't help but
retort. Scary. Being alone is scary. I was talking to myself more and more.
"Well, it's Lv.1, so it's about this much... it's about this much,
right?" I didn't know who to confirm with, so I vaguely looked behind me.
When the slimes were there, they would wobble and jiggle as if to say,
"That's right, that's right," so the loneliness I hadn't felt then
came rushing at me.
All that was there was
the quiet, swaying lakeside. "Gununu," I bit my lip, then suddenly
opened my hands and shook my head. I have to stay cool.
"For now, it
seems like a useful skill, so I'll turn it on."
Thanks to the illusion
skill, I could always use multiple skills simultaneously. If the number of
simultaneously used skills increased, the skills would add up, increasing my
abilities.
Right now, I am using
illusion, cleaning, and tamer. To use them, I just had to concentrate on my
mind. It was like flipping a switch, but even when I closed my eyes and thought
about it, nothing changed.
"Huh?"
"That's
strange," I thought, and this time I turned off the other skills. Even
though it was near the water's edge, there was always a chance of something
happening. I was scared to turn off the tamer skill, so I turned off the
cleaning skill. I felt like the distance between my heart and the slimes had
grown further. No, we were originally strangers. Then I turned on the detection
skill. It worked without any problems. As I tried it a few times, I realized.
"I can only use
up to two at the same time..."
Currently, my illusion
skill is Lv. 2. The skills I had been using until just now, excluding the
illusion skill, were cleaning and tamer, two skills. I probably guessed that
the number of skills that could be used simultaneously would change as the
skill level increased. When I acquired the tamer skill, the illusion skill had
already risen to 2. If it had remained at 1, I probably wouldn't have been able
to use it.
"Hmm..." I
groaned and thought, then decided to turn off the cleaning skill for now and
turn on the detection skill. I could think about it again when I needed to ask
the slimes for something, and right now I had the tamer skill. This seemed more
useful in case of emergency.
Immediately, something
reacted with a "pikon." Of course, I didn't know what it was. That's
because I could only vaguely sense things. It was more vague than I had
imagined. I didn't understand. But the skill level wouldn't increase if I didn't
use it. Shaking my head at the strange discomfort, I waited for the source of
the presence, ready to run away at any time.
A small squirrel
popped out from the shade of a tree. It had a drill-like horn growing from its
forehead, so it was definitely a monster, but this was around the water's edge,
where even monsters became relatively docile. I wiped the sweat from my brow
with relief, and felt the corners of my mouth involuntarily loosen.
By the way, this
detection skill, maybe it wasn't sensing presence at all, but just detecting
things. I didn't know if the range was narrow or wide, and it was quite
disappointing.
"Ooooh..."
I approached the small
squirrel monster in a soft voice. I crouched down slightly so as not to startle
it, hoping to greet it in a friendly manner if possible. The squirrel tilted
its head curiously, "kyui kyui," puffed out its cheeks, and then took
a step towards me, shaking the horn on its head. "Yes!" I was happy.
"Hehe," I moved my index finger back and forth while keeping my hand
outstretched, when a voice said from above, "Hey."
"That's a baby
unicorn. You're being too careless just because it's the water's edge."
I turned around
sharply, and there was a man. He had black hair and looked like a young man a
little older than a boy. For some reason, he looked very familiar, but I
couldn't figure out why.
The young man narrowed his eyes strangely as he looked at me. He looked very displeased, but I couldn't tell if that was his usual demeanor or not.
