[WN] Shut-In : Chapter 56

Chapter 56

Challenge

Translator : PolterGlast

When I checked my status, I found that my LV had increased by 5 in a single battle.

As expected of a formidable enemy that couldn't be defeated with LV 10 magic... surely, it's an enemy far superior to me.

With this, I could probably level up seriously here for a while.

Just thinking about the monsters that would appear on the next floor gives me a headache, but... I have no choice but to level up as much as possible before challenging it.

I've learned two important things about how to defeat the Elder Lich.

One is to hit them with two LV 10 magics before they can recover and attack me, and the other is to retreat before other Elder Liches approach after the battle.

In other words, whether I can win or not depends on the location of the surrounding Elder Liches.

So, I could just try fighting and retreat if it seems impossible, but... that's a bit too risky.

There's a non-zero chance that other Elder Liches will come while I'm casting a spell or concentrating.

If Elder Liches are nearby, they'll be waiting to sandwich me.

There's no way I could handle that in my current state.

As I was wondering what to do... I decided to take a risk.

I decided to use Wind Search for detection, which I had firmly decided to seal on this floor.

Wind Search is a huge landmine that attracts the Wind Elder Lich.

But its detection ability is essential on this floor, where encountering multiple enemies could lead to a dead end.

Therefore, I abandoned the option of fighting the Wind Elder Lich in the first place.

"...Whoa, dangerous!"

If I use Wind Search and the Wind Elder Lich, which has reverse detection, approaches, I'll immediately retreat home.

"...Wind bastard confirmed!"

And if there's no sign of movement after use, I'll use the detection ability to grasp the location of the Elder Liches nearby (the Wind Elder Lich came many times and was very annoying, so I decided to call him Wind Bastard).

If I judge that I might be noticed because I'm too close, I retreat as well.

I'll use the door placement power again to randomly teleport to another location on the same floor, and then start checking for the Wind Bastard again.

And when the positioning of the Elder Liches seems to be okay, I'll finally start fighting there.

This is a method that only I can do, as I can use the door placement power to change locations many times.

I feel like I'm being a bit too cautious myself (since I haven't actually been hit by Elder Lich's magic, I might be able to withstand it without any problems if I did), but it's not worth the cost of my life.

Even if it's inefficient, I should use a method that allows me to defeat them reliably without pushing myself too hard.

Once I switched to this method, I was able to defeat about one Elder Lich per hour.

I feel more mentally exhausted than fighting them because I have to pick a spot and start over so many times.

At first... I had a lot of trouble, to be honest.

I had to retreat before I could defeat them because I misjudged the Elder Lich's detection ability, and there were many times when I was almost surrounded by Elder Liches and almost got hit by their magic.

But as I repeated the failures, I gradually got the hang of it.

It's also a big plus that I can escape to [Home] in case of an emergency.

But... that Wind Bastard keeps approaching me, and it's really stressing me out.

I'm getting so frustrated that I'm afraid that if I keep doing this, the damage will soon be done to the top of my head.

I decided to set two goals for this tenth floor as I proceeded to the next floor.

First, I want to be able to fight and win against multiple Elder Liches (since two is not enough, I want to be able to fight and defeat three at the same time, even if it's a bit risky).

And second--I'm going to beat up that Wind Bastard who comes without reading the room!

I decided to focus on leveling up to achieve the second goal as soon as possible.

Just wait, Wind Bastard... once I finish leveling up with this method, I'll beat you to a pulp!
