Chapter 58
Simulation
Room
Translator : PolterGlast
The outline of the
simulation room came to my mind the moment I opened the door and used its
functions.
As previously
explained, this room is for honing combat skills.
Inside the room, I can
select monsters I've encountered so far and summon their phantoms.
Even though they're
phantoms, they have almost the same abilities as the real thing.
As the name suggests,
it's a room for simulating battles with monsters.
The pure white space,
reminiscent of the place where I had a conversation with God, is quite large.
It's divided into
squares like a grid with many white tiles, but it feels at least as large as my
house.
Apparently, this room
can be repaired with MP even if it's destroyed.
It's nice to know that
no matter how intense I fight, it won't be a problem.
I was able to summon
all five types of Elder Liches I've encountered so far, categorized by element.
Naturally, I chose the
Wind Bastard, my nemesis.
"I've been
wanting to have a serious fight with you once!"
While staring at the
Wind Bastard approaching me, I cast Accelerate and Quick.
And while casting the
magic, I keep my distance so that I don't get too close to him.
Judging from his
previous actions of trying to get close to me and the nature of his wind magic,
I'm guessing that the Wind Elder Lich's specialty is medium-range magic.
I know this because I
use it myself, but wind magic greatly attenuates when the distance from the
activation point exceeds a certain distance.
The advantage is that
it's hard to see and avoid, but it's not very good at long-range combat.
Considering his
movement of trying to close the distance so much, I don't think my prediction
is far off.
Since I use lightning
magic, which doesn't have much to do with distance, I decided to keep my
distance to force my advantage.
While keeping my
distance, I prepare to activate lightning magic.
I select Lightning
Bolt, a high-power spell that can be used immediately.
I prepare to use
recovery magic with dual activation.
"Lightning
Bolt!"
Lightning runs through
the air in a zigzag trajectory toward the Elder Lich.
The lightning magic
unleashed with my magic attack power, which has been raised to over 600, has
changed into something completely different from what I used to use.
A line of lightning,
reminiscent of a large tree trunk, runs through the atmosphere, tearing it
apart.
While watching the
lightning flying at high speed, I prepare to fire the next railgun and observe
the Elder Lich.
The Elder Lich's
movement in this simulation room was different from my expectations.
The Wind Bastard
didn't move towards me, who was trying to keep my distance, but just raised his
staff up.
Come to think of it,
I've always won without letting the Elder Lich use magic even once.
I've never seen what
kind of magic he uses.
Like when I escaped
home before, the green jewel embedded in his staff started to cloud.
The black mixed in the
green jewel changes its color.
And it bounces around
gyuru gyuru, and before I knew it, the jewel was about half green and half
black.
"--Gah!"
The Wind Bastard
pointed his staff at me without stopping his movement even after taking the
Lightning Bolt.
Apparently, I still
can't produce enough power to damage him properly.
The jewel started to
shine and emit a mysterious light.
--Something's coming!
...That's all I knew.
"...Wha...
huh...?"
A sound like something
slipping...
At the same time, an
anomaly occurs in my field of vision.
It's not just dizzy--.
Everything in my sight
started to spin around.
My semicircular canals
were affected by the sudden change, and I felt sick.
What I saw in my field
of vision as I desperately strained my eyes in the swaying world was--my own
body without its head.
Ah... I'm dead.
At the same time as I
realized that, my consciousness faded away.
While I was dazed, the
whole room was emitting a strong light--.
"Seriously...
Elder Liches are this strong...?"
The simulation ended,
and I collapsed to the ground.
There wasn't a single
scratch on my body.
--What you can do in
the simulation room is, of course, a combat simulation.
So no matter how much
you get beaten up in the battle, you won't actually get injured.
"Whoa... ah, this
is bad. I'll fall asleep here if I stay like this."
I somehow stood up and
walked towards the door I came in with unsteady steps.
--There's a penalty
for losing in this simulation.
Apparently, my body
that appears in the simulation room is made of MP... and if I lose the battle,
my MP will be empty.
Looking at my stats,
my MP, which should have been over 1000 before the battle, has decreased to 1.
Combat with a body
made of MP... it makes me feel all sorts of possibilities... but right now, my
body is just plain tired.
Unable to think about
anything, I somehow managed to get out of the room, collapsed onto the bed
without caring about being dirty, and fell asleep--.
