[WN] Jitsuwa 3-Domedatta : Chapter 89

Chapter 89

(Kyle Calendar Year 506: Age 13)

Joint Elite Tournament ① - Guests

Translator : PolterGlast

It was late autumn when everyone, exhausted, sighed in relief in the Teigun administrative office conference room.

"Somehow... we're going to make it."

After my triumphant return from the battlefield, I urgently asked everyone to prepare for the elite tournament in Teigun. For just over a month since then, everyone had been working tirelessly, sacrificing sleep.

"Yes, we would have been in danger if it wasn't for the timely reinforcements of the Earth Mages and Gravity Mage Yoltia at the very end," Miseri also sighed in relief. With the power of the newly joined Mages, acquired after the secret agreement with Father Grace, construction had progressed rapidly.

Originally, the elite tournament was held in early summer, with the second one in autumn. This time, due to the war, it was planned for mid-autumn. However, I had suddenly ordered it to be held in Teigun. Because of insufficient time to prepare the venue and reception facilities, it had been postponed. Therefore, the third tournament was rescheduled to late autumn, near the end of the year (though even that was initially deemed impossible).

<New Construction>

The planned site for the northern barbican, which was to be built in the second phase of development starting next year, was repurposed as the tournament venue.

On the north side of Teigun, a triangular piece of land, 800 m east-west and 800 m north-south, was transformed into an arena enclosed by walls, complete with a post town, a dining district, and ample spectator seating.

There was an abundance of stone for the walls. Earth Mages cut stones from the cliffs on either side of Teigun, two Space-Time Mages stored and transported them, and with the aid of the Gravity Mage, they were stacked to form the foundation of the earthen walls. Note that work involving the Gravity Mage, Yoltia, was done at night with limited personnel to avoid drawing attention.

Watching the construction of the walls progress, I vividly realized how overpowered Mages in this world were. Thus, at a rapid pace, a wall was completed that, while still insufficient in thickness and height as a defensive structure, was at least passable for a town.

In parallel with the exterior wall construction, internal work also proceeded, and the arena, accommodation facilities, and other temporary structures seemed to be completed just in time. The total number of people involved in these construction projects was 1,100: 400 temporary laborers staying in Teigun, 400 prisoners, 200 regular army soldiers (including those temporarily dispatched at my father's request), and 100 from the mercenary corps. Many townspeople also helped with the work as volunteers. And the result of everyone's efforts is what we have now.

The preparations for the 3rd Elite Tournament (Five-Territory Joint Competition) were now complete.

Two weeks before the event, my father, mother, sister, and steward, Raymond, arrived from Est. They were accompanied by maids from the lord's mansion and staff from the administrative office, coming to support us.

"This is it! This is Teigun, built by Takuhir-sama! Magnificent! Truly magnificent!" Raymond, who had visited Teigun two years ago during his inspection, was deeply impressed.

"Takuhir, how is that matter progressing?"

"Yes, smoothly. And thank you again for the invitation this time."

"Hmm, I'm looking forward to it. You've become quite... understanding, haven't you?"

"No, no, I'm still far from it..."

From an outsider's perspective, it looked like a conversation between a corrupt magistrate and a shrewd merchant from a period drama. Yes, my father hadn't changed since the "condemnation event" in Est. My father had come ahead, even before my mother and sister, who were leading the reinforcement force.

"However, please be very careful once Mother arrives. Father, please also moderate yourself..." I cautioned my father as much as I could.

This time, after consulting with Raymond, we also constructed a new brothel in the post town that would serve as the arena. The long-term plan was to relocate a part of the brothels from within Teigun itself. I had also heard that during the tournament, temporary support staff for that purpose would be dispatched from Est to Teigun and the post town.

Of course, I had properly explained the situation to my mother and obtained her tacit approval for this matter. I also informed my father about it (that I had told my mother).

The previous condemnation event was somewhat unbearable to watch, so I made sure to warn my father this time to prevent a similar incident.

In the previous timelineThere was no event in my memory where my father was condemned.

In this worldAs a result of my various actions:

·        Profits from speculation in the grain market,

·        Rewards from two campaigns.

·        Profits from the 1st Elite Tournament.

Including these, not only my father's personal finances but also the territory's economy had gained a significant surplus. This might have caused my father's behavior to change. I feel a little responsible for it.

Upon the arrival of my mother, sister, the maids, and Miguel, the head chef, they immediately entered the guesthouse and began their work. I assigned Yoltia to my mother as her subordinate.

"Ma'am, thank you so much for everything the other day. I will never forget your kindness in making my dream come true, something I had always longed for."

Yoltia was deeply moved and worked under her benefactress, my mother's command.

"Yoltia-san, I'm glad you seem happy. Is everyone treating you well?"

"Yes, I'm so happy, it feels like a dream."

"I was just hoping to borrow your connections. Please lend me your strength."

"Yes, ma'am. I'd be happy to if I can be of service!"

My mother had acquired the strongest intelligence agent. Thus, without our knowledge, it could be said that my father's "noble inclinations" were completely exposed.

Three days before the event, many people, including guests of honor, tourists, and envoys, began to arrive in Teigun.

This time, only guests of honor, their escorts, invited guests, related merchant parties, and tournament participants could use the accommodation facilities within Teigun itself. Even with the expansion, the town's accommodations were almost fully booked.

General visitors, previously unrelated merchants, and other escorts were directed to use the hastily built, yet properly constructed, accommodation facilities at the arena. These facilities, including temporary lodging, could accommodate a maximum of 1,000 people, but it still wasn't enough. People overflowed into the vacant lot (on the opposite side of the recently built post town) that was prepared as a reserve, where temporary tents and makeshift housing were set up.

Then, from the Royal Capital, my brother Darek arrived, along with, for some reason, the Commander of the Royal Capital Knights, and other escorts. It was highly unusual for the Commander himself to visit the frontier, but he was apparently here under the pretext of an "inspection" for the establishment of the Frontier Knights. My brother had been summoned by the Headmaster again just before returning to the territory to support the event, and was apparently assigned the duty of guiding the "inspection" party.

"I didn't have time to inform you beforehand. I think this is probably one of their intentions. Takuhir, I think the Commander and his escorts are probably fully aware of the Mage situation. Be careful." My brother advised me.

I also shared the information I received from Father Grace with my brother and assigned Anne to monitor them. She was already privy to the information and would monitor them from her position as reception manager and guide.

The results of her monitoring showed that this time, only one faction was interested in investigating. This faction consisted of three individuals believed to be subordinates of a noble belonging to that faction, and the Knight Commander. I told Anne to continue paying attention to the movements of these four, but absolutely not to interfere.

Following their arrival, the party of Margrave Hastburg arrived, along with Viscount Kilias's party, Viscount Gorman's party, and Baron Cornell's party. It was a grand procession of over 400 people, including their attendants and participants from each territory. Apparently, they had all gathered in Est and were led by my father.

Huh? Father?

My father had gone ahead with the purpose of "checking the status of the guest facilities," and as soon as my mother's party arrived, he had returned to Est for the purpose of "greeting and guiding the guests."

Then, the heads of each noble house and their families, the staff assisting them, and the inspection team from the Royal Capital were assigned to the newly established guesthouse. Other attendants and competition participants were assigned to pre-designated inns within the town.

By this time, I was completely occupied with handling the guests, and the final preparations for the operations were entirely entrusted to Claire and her team. From tomorrow, I will be running around to fulfill the inspection team's objectives before the tournament.
