[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 20

Chapter 20

Cheers

Translator : PolterGlast

Most of the voices belonged to the members of the [Unbearable God Cult], but the one shouting louder than anyone was Ginia.

She was screaming so much I was a little worried she might faint.

Feeling a bit embarrassed by the great cheers being showered upon me, I returned to where Ginia and the leader-like man were.

"That was amazing! Graham-san, you're truly amazing!! This is the first time I've ever been this excited!"

"It was nothing. You'll be able to do it too someday, Ginia."

In reality, there just weren't any skilled fighters here. If I were asked if I was satisfied with my own movements, I'd have to shake my head.

I was faster when I had both my arms, and my movements were still lacking.

It was fine this time since they were just normal Golems, but in order to properly protect my party member, Ginia, I can't afford to be lazy and use my age as an excuse. I have to get stronger.

"No, no, no, no, I can't see a future like that for myself at all right now!"

"I only reached this level after I turned thirty. I wasn't able to do it from the start. Anything is possible with enough effort."

"So hard work really is what's most important...! I'll do my absolute best too!"

"Yeah, do your best. As long as you're willing, Ginia, I intend to teach you as much as I can."

"—Sorry to interrupt while you're talking, but thank you so much for saving us! You've saved our lives!"

As Ginia and I were having our passionate discussion, the leader-like man, who had lost his chance to speak, forcefully interjected himself into the conversation.

Emotionally, I wanted to tell him not to interrupt when the conversation was getting good, but I guess it was my fault for leaving him standing there.

"No, I promised I'd help. More importantly, you remember your promise to me, right? If you're thinking of breaking it..."

"—O-of course, we will keep our promise!! I-I'm leaving the [Unbearable God Cult], and I'm sure the other members here feel the same way! S-so, please, I beg you, don't get rough with us!!"

The leader-like man even declared he was quitting while rubbing his head on the ground.

He was spewing insults just before the battle started, so his complete change in attitude makes me suspicious.

"Are you telling the truth? I clearly heard you complaining right before you fought the Golems."

"N-no, that was... I-I'm sorry! I thought I was going to die, so all sorts of emotions just came out of my mouth! I really will wash my hands of the [Unbearable God Cult], so please, believe me!"

He started rubbing his forehead on the ground so hard that it began to bleed.

His words seem genuine, and if he's willing to bow this low... maybe I can trust him.

"...Alright. First, tell me your name."

"My name? My name is Max Radcliff!"

"Max. I've committed your name to memory. If you break your promise to me—I don't have to spell out the rest, do I?"

"I-I understand! I will absolutely keep my promise! After seeing such power, I would never do something as terrifying as breaking a promise!"

"I see. Then I'll trust you."

I offered my hand to Max, and we shook.

"Thank you! I will never forget this debt for the rest of my life! May I ask your name?"

"My name is Graham."

"Graham-sama. Graham-sama.... I have it perfectly memorized! If you ever have a chance to come to the royal capital, please let me know. I will be your guide."

"If I get the chance, I'll take you up on that. But more importantly, what will you do now, Max?"

"For now, I plan to gather the current members and return to the royal capital at once! From there, we will leave the [Unbearable God Cult] immediately!"

I didn't make him promise to leave the cult, but if it's a bad organization, it's better that he leaves, so there's no need to stop him.

"Then you don't need any escorts. We have another quest to attend to, so we'll be on our way."

"Yes, we'll be fine from here on out! Thank you so much!"

"As long as you keep your promise, no thanks are needed. Well then, we'll be go—"

I was about to cut the conversation there and leave with Ginia, but one of the [Unbearable God Cult]'s tents was moving as if it were bouncing. There was a muffled sound, and though it was very difficult to hear, it sounded like a call for help.

This is far too suspicious. I can't just leave it be and go home.
