[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Ogre

Translator : PolterGlast

I wonder if it's making a monster settlement. I can sense an Ogre's presence among a large number of monsters.

Having encountered so few familiar monsters up to this point, I was a little happy to sense the Ogre's presence.

"...I found an Ogre deep in the plains, but it's a place that would take more than half a day of travel to reach."

"What! I don't think the quest would be for a monster that far away, but the receptionist did say there was no deadline. Does that mean we're supposed to defeat that Ogre?"

"I don't know, but the Ogres I know aren't nearby."

Since what Ginia is saying is more likely correct, it's probably a good idea to head towards the nearby monster reactions.

In any case, in our current unprepared state, we can't make a journey that takes more than half a day one way.

"If you say so, Graham-san... should we try making the half-day trip to where that Ogre is?"

"No, what you're saying is more likely correct. For now, there are monster reactions nearby, so let's check those out."

"Okay! Let's check the monster reactions, and if we don't find an Ogre, we can return to Biodasdal once to prepare. Then, how about we make the half-day trip to where the Ogre reaction is?"

"Yeah. I have no objections to that."

Now that we had a plan, we immediately started checking the locations with monster reactions.

About twenty minutes' walk into the plains, we encountered our first monster, but it clearly wasn't an Ogre.

It was a cow-like monster called a Bull Butler, and Ginia said this one was also sold in the market.

For the time being, I had Ginia fight until an Ogre appeared, while I gave her accurate advice from the rear.

After the Bull Butler, we had a series of battles with weak monsters like a common Orc and a Baby Devil, and then, Ginia, who must have spotted something, pointed and shouted.

"Graham-san! I think that's an Ogre!"

I looked in the direction she was pointing, and there was an Ogre with a dirt-green body... or rather, a monster that looked like an enlarged common goblin.

It was a far cry from the Ogres I had seen, and I'm pretty sure it's a monster that's similar to but different from an Ogre.

"Is that really an Ogre? It's too different from the Ogres I know."

"I think it's probably an Ogre. I've never seen one in person, but it matches the description of an Ogre that I know!"

I wasn't convinced, but if Ginia says it's an Ogre, then maybe this monster is called an Ogre around here.

My image of an Ogre is a muscular, vibrantly colored monster with a club, not this flabby-looking thing. If I had to force a name on it, I'd probably call it a Lesser Ogre.

"In that case, let's hunt that monster and head back for the day. I think even you could beat that one, Ginia. What do you want to do?"

"Could I ask you to handle this one, Graham-san? I can't see my dagger getting through its hide."

"Alright. In that case, I'll take it out quickly."

I stepped forward, gripped the hilt of my sword as usual, and lowered my stance.

Then, I drew and sheathed my sword in an instant—and lopped off the Lesser Ogre's head.

The severed head flew into the air and fell to the ground with a thud.

Then its body collapsed, and the battle was over in an instant.

I assume the higher-ranked adventurers are taking care of the stronger monsters, but when there are only weak monsters like this, it's not much of a challenge.

I'm starting to feel the urge to fight at full strength for the first time in a while, but for now, the mission is complete... I think?

"No matter how many times I see it, it's just breathtaking! A monster's head getting cut off should be a disgusting sight, but it looks beautiful. I want to watch you fight for the rest of my life, Graham-san."

"A lifetime is probably impossible. Physically speaking, I think I've only got about five more years left. More importantly, is this quest really complete with this?"

"It should be... I think! Do we need proof of subjugation? For the Corpse Shouts, it was fine because they dropped a special magic stone that can be used as a megaphone."

"Hmm. This one doesn't seem to have anything special on it. Its ears alone make it look like a goblin. Should we just take the whole head back?"

"The whole head!? I thought that was a bit much... but it's not bleeding as much as I expected, so maybe we can?"

"I think it'll be fine if we put it in a sack upside down."

"In that case... should we take the head?"

Ginia seemed a bit bewildered, but since there was nothing else that could serve as proof of subjugation, we decided to put the severed head in a sack and take it back with us.

It was over all too quickly, but the quest should be complete with this.

If they say it's not an Ogre, then we just have to prepare and go hunt the real Ogre deep in the plains.

Although we hadn't even been in the plains for two hours, we headed back to the town of Biodasdal.
