[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 33

Chapter 33

The Urgent Request

Translator : PolterGlast

We made our way through the crowded Adventurer's Guild and checked the request posted on the large bulletin board.

In huge letters, it read "Emergency Quest," and the details were for the subjugation of an Ogre horde.

The "Ogre" here probably means the Lesser Ogre.

We had just defeated a Lesser Ogre yesterday, and seeing that a horde of those weak creatures was considered an emergency quest was enough to make my head spin.

Was a single one a low-difficulty quest for E-rank promotion, but a horde of them was treated differently?

"It says subjugation of an Ogre horde. Do you think it means the Ogres you defeated yesterday, Graham-san?"

"I wonder. It might not be the Lesser Ogres, but the Ogre horde I found in the plains."

"Oh, the Ogres you were going to go on an expedition to defeat? Does that mean that Ogre horde is approaching Biodasdal?"

"I think that's highly likely. To be honest, I felt the Lesser Ogres were a bit lacking, and if it's real Ogres, I'd be willing to take this emergency quest. What do you think, Ginia?"

"Sounds good, let's take it! It's an emergency quest, so I can take it with you!"

I had asked Ginia, but it was Aoi who jumped in and answered.

Just a few seconds ago, I was eager to take the quest, but that one comment from her made me want to decline it.

"If you think it's a good idea, Graham-san, then I'm all for it! I was curious about the real Ogres you mentioned, and I was prepared to go on an expedition, so I think we should take it!"

"Then, as our first quest after being promoted to E-rank, let's take the emergency quest. Though I'm a little reluctant since Aoi is so eager."

"Why! Let's take the quest together! I'll prove to you how useful I can be!"

"You don't have to prove anything, just don't follow us."

"No way! I'll keep pestering you until you let me in your party!"

Aoi stuck her tongue out at me and then went ahead to accept the emergency quest.

We followed a little later, went to our usual receptionist, and completed the procedures to accept the emergency quest.

"Oof, she really tried to stop us. I'm starting to get a little anxious."

"The receptionist was just worried about us. Even though we're not rookies anymore, we're still half-fledged. She said this quest was too difficult for us."

"She did say the recommended rank was C or higher. I thought it wouldn't be a big deal since it was Ogres, but I guess a horde is a completely different story."

"I don't know. Should we have listened to her advice and not taken the quest? I can't forget the sad look on the receptionist's face when we said we'd take it."

"You don't have to worry so much! I'm a truly top-class adventurer! With me and Graham, we'll manage somehow!"

I wasn't worried about the Ogres at all; I was worried about my relationship with the receptionist getting worse, but Aoi's comment was completely off the mark.

But... it seems Aoi really was famous. Just by being with her, I felt gazes of envy, not the usual scornful stares.

She was easily captured by a squad of the [Unbearable God Cult], and I didn't feel any strength from her in our brief fight, so I thought she was lying.

Maybe she has some incredible ability that she can only use when she's in a pinch.

"Let's make sure we return safely, and when we do, we'll apologize to the receptionist."

"Right! Graham-san, Aoi-chan, I'm counting on you!"

"Leave it to me! I'll take care of a few Ogres in a jiffy! In return... you have to let me in your party if I can defeat the Ogres!"

"If you can defeat more Ogres than me, I'll consider it. But in return, if you defeat fewer than me, you have to give up."

"Alright! I won't give up, but if I defeat more than you, you absolutely have to let me in! I'm going to take them down one after another!"

It wasn't really a promise anymore, but no matter how many times I corrected her, Aoi wouldn't listen.

While we were having this exchange, we arrived at the plains in no time.

At a glance, there were quite a few adventurers milling about, but it didn't look any different from yesterday.

For now, I'll try to sense for presences.

............Alright, I found the reaction of the Ogres I found yesterday.

I could sense their reaction in a location that was definitely closer than where I had detected them yesterday.
