Translator : PolterGlast
I've hunted 1,000
monsters on the 10th floor. My promise to the Princess was to hunt 1,000.
Slime hunting isn't
that difficult once you get used to their speed.
Even if physical
attacks don't work, everyone has either elemental attacks or skills that can
bypass resistances.
Before my audience
with the Princess, I had to show proof that I had defeated 1,000 of them.
So I laid out the
proof.
"Incredible!
These are indeed from the 10th floor! Slime drop items!"
That's Arthur Samdahl.
That workaholic appraiser. And...
"These are items
from the 10th floor!"
His eldest son, John
Samdahl.
"I am intensely
moved right now!"
His second son, Edward
Samdahl.
These three. All of
them are appraisers. An entire family of appraisers.
Appraiser is a job
that can be acquired by raising a merchant-type job and a priest-type job to
Level 10. If you're rich, that's possible.
There's another
condition to become an appraiser: you can become one if you can judge a
person's character or appraise items well, regardless of your job or skills.
This condition has a
rather ambiguous element. I don't know the exact benchmark for it. So I think
it's easier to just level up a merchant and a priest and then change jobs.
And this family
changed jobs through the latter condition. They were educated from a young age,
and if they had the talent, they could become appraisers. They're truly an
appraiser family.
And all three of them
are appraisal idiots. It's not just the father; his sons are also workaholics.
Is it in their blood? Or is it their environment? How can anyone be so
passionate about appraising?
The three of them
appraised the items laid out in a row, sometimes muttering, sometimes exulting.
All three of them appraised every single item. It was not division of labor;
they just wanted to appraise them.
"Lord
Footscythel! These are all magnificent items! I'm trembling with
excitement!"
"I-I see. That's
good?"
You're too close,
Father Appraiser.
"Thank you so
much for allowing us to appraise so many wonderful items!"
"I, see..."
The eldest son
appraiser's face is also too close...
"Lord
Footscythel! Please hire me!"
"Huh?"
What's the second son
appraiser saying?
"If I'm with Lord
Footscythel, I can constantly be in contact with items like these, can't I?!
Please, make me your retainer!"
In contact with
them... there's a limit to being an appraisal idiot.
"That's not fair!
I want to be your retainer, too!"
"Then I will
be!"
What’s with this
family of appraisal idiots?
"Hey, aren't you
a noble? And a count, at that?"
The Samdahl family's
title is count. My Detailed Appraisal says so.
You can't serve a
viscount like me if you're a count.
"I will pass on
the count title to my eldest son, John. Please, sir."
"Father, you stay
here and serve the Royal Family! I'm the one who's going to Lord Footscythel's
place!"
"Father, Brother.
I was the first to say I wanted to serve. Besides, since I'm not inheriting the
family, there's no problem with me serving Lord Footscythel. I'll go."
" "You stay
out of this!" "
What a family of
appraisal idiots.
However, having an
appraiser as a retainer isn't a bad idea.
" "
"Ah, my level went up!" " "
Well, that's good for
you.
Is it because they
appraised the 10th-floor items?
"The promise has
been fulfilled. Now, the monsters will not overflow from the dungeon. I express
my gratitude for Viscount Footscythel's efforts. Thank you."
The Princess still has
dark circles under her eyes. This situation should lighten her burden a little,
right? She should rest more.
The appraisal idiot
family confirmed the subjugation of 1,000 10th-floor monsters, the slimes. Upon
receiving this report, the Princess rejoiced and expressed her gratitude for
suppressing the monster overflow.
"Now, Viscount
Footscythel, you can enter your territory. Congratulations."
I wasn't exactly
eagerly awaiting my entry into the territory, but I've been preparing for it
diligently.
To be honest, I'm
still questioning whether I'm fit to be a lord.
I must protect the
lives of the people living there. Can I endure that burden? And can I continue
to bear it?
"When will you
depart?"
"In five days,
but I'll be heading to Kerniff first. I'll return to the capital after that and
then head to Triange."
"Kerniff? Is it
to greet Duke Gardland?"
"That's part of
it, but I also have a sword I commissioned from Viscount Bacchus, and I'm
planning to pick it up."
"Viscount
Bacchus... Oh, that Lord Bacchus. I hear he's a wonderful blacksmith."
"That's what I
heard, so I'm looking forward to it."
After exchanging a few
more words with the Princess, the conversation turned to the heroes. I didn't
ask, but the Princess spoke about them matter-of-factly.
Among the four heroes,
three had become slaves. The remaining one—the hero of the blue sea, Mizusawa's
party—had apparently conquered the 6th floor and was exploring the 7th.
Mizusawa has a
cautious personality (I don't know him, though), and he seems to be careful
with his exploration. His party members haven't changed, and it's all stable.
Well, I can only say, "Good luck."
The people who were in
the parties of the three who became slaves are apparently not doing well.
They all lack
cooperation and keep splitting up and getting back together. As a result, they
can't progress past the 3rd floor. Who cares about that?
It seems that some of
the production job holders are preparing to become independent. The Royal
Family will apparently offer support for them to open shops or workshops in the
capital.
The keyword here is "in
the capital." So they're not completely abandoning them, I guess.
"We could also
offer support to Sayaka-dono and Yamato-dono, but it seems they're doing their
best under Viscount Footscythel."
It's up to them, I
suppose. Yamato seems to be enjoying himself at my place, but what about
Itsukishima-san?
I guess I'll inform
Yamato and Itsukishima-san about this, just in case.
The three slaves have
apparently gotten a little better.
Even if they act
rebelliously, there's nothing they can do as slaves, but I don't think they're
the type to reform because of that.
I just hope they don't
die in some ditch. That's all I can think.
***
I decided to head to Kerniff
with six other people, including myself.
I tried my best. I was
unable to ride a horse, but I somehow managed to learn. My thighs hurt so
much...
This trip is mainly to
pick up a sword, so everyone will be on horseback. Speed is the priority.
"Well, I'm off.
I'm counting on you for everything else, Anneliese."
"Yes. Leave it to
me."
You're beautiful today
too, Anneliese.
"Gandarvan, I'm
counting on you as well."
"I will protect
the Lady and the mansion with my life."
There's no need to
risk your life, right? Anneliese is at the same level as us, so no one can beat
her. I'm only worried about assassination, but I can't think of anyone who
would do that.
It's painful to be
separated from Anneliese for a while, but I got on my horse and galloped away.
I don't have the
luxury of enjoying the wind.
I can only just barely
ride a horse, so I'm desperately trying to keep it running.
My companions are
Jojok and five slaves. The slaves are the five who explore the 7th floor and
are generally considered to be quite strong soldiers.
By the way, I was the
only one who couldn't ride a horse; most of the slave soldiers could. I was a
bit frustrated, so I desperately practiced riding.
We proceeded with a
focus on speed, ignoring towns and everything else.
We camped out on the
first and second days and rented an empty house in a small village on the third
day.
It's spring, but the
mornings and evenings are a bit chilly.
