[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 39

Chapter 39

Cheers

Translator : PolterGlast

I approached the flustered adventurers and spoke to them.

"I'm not angry. So you don't have to worry about it."

"—Ah, y-you heard us! U-um... we are truly sorry! And thank you for saving us!"

"I don't need an apology or thanks. I just accepted a quest and completed it."

"To be so strong and so kind... thank you so much! We will definitely repay this debt of gratitude someday!"

"I told you, I don't need any thanks. But if you really want to repay me, then instead of helping me, help someone else who's in trouble in my place."

"""............Ooooh!!""""

A collective cry of admiration rose from the adventurers who had been listening to our conversation.

The eyes of the healer who had been mocking me were sparkling, as if he were truly looking at a hero.

I was just repeating the words the old woman had told me, but... it was getting strangely embarrassing.

"—Ahem, more importantly, are you sure you don't need an escort back? If you're injured, I can take you back to the city."

"We're all unharmed, so we're fine! Thank you so much! U-um, it's a bit late to ask, but what's your name?"

"It's Graham."

"Graham-san! We will etch your earlier words into our hearts, Graham-san! We will live to be of service to someone!"

"...R-right. Well then, I'll be heading back first."

Bathed in their sparkling gazes, I felt my back grow ticklish as I headed back to Ginia and Aoi.

I was conscious of the gazes of the adventurers I had saved, but right now, checking on Ginia was the higher priority.

I'm sure she's fine, but she fought to the very limit of her stamina.

Combined with the situation of having to follow my instructions, her nerves must be completely frayed. I need to take care of her.

"Ginia, are you okay?"

"........................"

Our eyes were completely locked, but Ginia wasn't responding at all.

I was worried she might have suffered some kind of muscular damage, but—

"............Ah, I'm sorry. I was resting in the back, so I'm fine! More importantly—that was too amazing!! Th-that was all your doing, wasn't it, Graham-san!? I saw those artistic monsters of fire killing the Ogres from all sides, and I was just completely dazed!"

It was good that she was energetic, but... it's been a while since I've seen Ginia this worked up.

Her eyes were wide and intense, which made me worry in a different way.

"I just used magic to defeat them. I've been using my katana up until now, but if I don't use my magic, my skills will get dull."

"How can you be so calm about it!? Normally, when you think of magic, it's things like shooting fireballs, or at most, changing the shape to an arrow, right!?"

"You're asking me? I don't really know, because for me, that was normal."

Part of it was because I disliked practicing magic, so I would change its shape and form to distract myself, but is it really that rare?

If you can change it into the shape of an arrow, you should be able to change it into the shape of a dog. I think this is just another case of Ginia not knowing things.

"You're always so cool and detached, Graham-san, it creates such a gap. But Aoi-chan is here today! Let's hear what she has to say, since she said she's been an adventurer for a while!"

Ginia tried to bring her into the conversation, but Aoi was frozen, still on her knees.

"Hey Aoi, are you okay?"

As I approached and called out to her, her body finally twitched.

At least she wasn't unconscious. That was a relief.

"...What was that? What in the world were you doing?"

"When you say 'that,' you mean the battle with the Ogres? I told Ginia, I just burned them normally with magic."

"Y-you just burned them normally with magic? It felt like I was watching the end of the world. But you're standing right here, Graham, so does that mean those flames really were your magic?"

"Yeah. That's what I've been saying."

"I thought you were a master of martial arts who could handle me with ease, but you're also a master of swordsmanship who can cut down Golems, and a master of magic who can one-sidedly burn Ogres I've never even seen before. ...What in the world are you, Graham?"

Aoi asked with vacant eyes, to the point that I was getting a little worried.

Ginia was worked up too, but I feel like Aoi is in a stranger state, enough to be concerning.

"Even if you ask what I am, I can only say I'm an adventurer who was a rookie until just recently."

"............I see. So you're not going to answer. —I've made up my mind! I am absolutely going to join Graham's party! Even if you say no, I'll join your party no matter what!"

She had been in a slump I'd never seen before, which was a little scary, but after looking down for a moment, she raised her head and was back to her usual self.

Her insisting on joining the party is a pain, but it's a lot better than the brooding look she had just now.

"I won't approve you joining the party, but I'm glad you seem to be back to normal. You didn't participate in the battle, so I'm having you help with dismantling the Ogre corpses."

"Got it! I just have to cut off the ears, right? I want to see the charred Ogre corpses, so I'll start dismantling from over there!"

"Ah, no fair, Aoi-chan! I want to see those Ogres up close, too!"

Ginia chased after Aoi as she ran off, and they both headed over to dismantle from the Red Ogre corpses I had killed.

I guess I'll take care of dismantling from the Lesser Ogre corpses that Ginia killed.

Under the envious gazes of the other adventurers, I went around cutting off the ears of the Lesser Ogres.
