[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 43

Chapter 43

The Plan

Translator : PolterGlast

Ginia took out a piece of paper and a pen, preparing to jot down the ideas that came up.

I had only had a rough image of something like walking around town and helping people in trouble, but I guess even for doing good deeds, it's better to decide on the specifics.

"By the way, what's wrong with just talking to and helping people who are in trouble in the city?"

"The soldiers patrol Biodasdal, so I don't think we need to do that. Why don't we do something that only we can do?"

Something only we can do, huh.

If that's the case, then all I can think of is monster subjugation...

"Yes, yes! I think regular monster subjugation is fine! Graham can find monsters, so how about we defeat monsters that are approaching the city?"

"Won't that just be taking work away from other adventurers? Monster subjugation is all I can think of, too."

"Then... how about we narrow our focus to strong monsters? There are quite a few monsters that are so dangerous they can't be touched and aren't even made into quests, right?"

"Ah. Near the city, there's the Magus of Death on the old abandoned road, and the Silver Golem in the northern mountainous region!"

The Magus of Death on the old abandoned road?

Could that be that Dead Priest?

"Aoi-chan. Is the Magus of Death on the old abandoned road a monster that's like an undead mage?"

"Hmm, I've never seen it, but that's the rumor! It's a place where they've said since long ago that just getting close will kill you, and that you'll be killed by something unseen!"

Hearing that information, Ginia and I looked at each other and nodded.

What Aoi was talking about was undoubtedly that Dead Priest.

"I've met that monster before."

"What!? Graham, you went to the old abandoned road!?"

"Yeah, Ginia and I went there on a whim. It wasn't a very impressive monster, though."

"What!? There's no way it's not an impressive monster! It's a monster that's said to be undefeatable even for an A-rank adventurer!"

"...Then maybe it's a different monster? I thought the characteristics matched."

"I think it's the same monster... Just thinking about that monster gives me goosebumps, and I sometimes see it in my dreams!"

It wasn't that big of a deal, though.

Maybe I should take Aoi to see the Dead Priest again.

"Even you, Graham, I don't think you'd be alive if you had encountered the Magus of Death —well no, with you, it wouldn't be strange if you defeated it easily, I guess?"

"I made it promise to do whatever I say, so why don't we go and check it out? If the Dead Priest I'm talking about and the Magus of Death  Aoi is talking about are the same monster, then maybe our first good deed can be to defeat a troublesome monster that can't be made into a quest."

"I absolutely don't want to go to the old abandoned road, but defeating a strong monster with Graham sounds interesting...! If I'm with you, maybe I can become a hero too!"

Aoi is trying to come along with completely ulterior motives.

I don't plan on making a big deal out of it, but if we defeat a dangerous monster, we might naturally become famous.

"This is a good deed, so I'd appreciate it if you'd cast aside your ulterior motives."

"For me, it's less about wanting to do good deeds and more about the feeling that it would be fun to be with you and Ginia. Besides, even if it's hypocrisy, it's better than doing nothing, right?"

Hmm... when she puts it that way, I feel like the motive doesn't really matter.

Though it's annoying to be talked into it by Aoi.

"Ah! That's right. I just remembered, the Guild Master has something to talk to you and Ginia about!"

"Huh? The topic just jumped completely. Why did you suddenly remember that?"

"Well, I thought the Guild Master might be able to help us with something, and then I suddenly remembered! I'm sure he has all sorts of information on dangerous monsters that just aren't made into quests! And since the Guild Master was the one who said he wanted to talk, why don't you try talking to him about it?"

"That might be a good idea. Though I'm worried if he'll even listen to what an E-rank geezer has to say."

"It'll be fine! If I'm with you, even the Guild Master can't just dismiss you!"

She proudly showed off that guild card of hers.

Aoi is a huge pain, but the fact that she's a relatively famous adventurer is helpful for me.

"That has a point. So, what does the Guild Master want with me?"

"I don't know the details. Just that he wants to hear about the emergency quest the other day! He said to come to the Adventurer's Guild when you have time!"

"I see. In that case, let's go tomorrow. You're okay with that too, right, Ginia?"

"Of course I am! But I'm not sure what to do if he asks me questions..."

"You were the one who defeated the horde of Lesser Ogres, Ginia. It's understandable that he'd want to hear your story."

"It was me, but I can't say that I defeated them! It was all thanks to you, Graham-san!"

"No, that's not true! I was watching from the side, and your movements were incredible, Ginia! I couldn't even move from my spot, you know? Even if it was under Graham's instruction, it's difficult to move exactly as told."

"Oh, hehe. ...I-is that so?"

Ginia's face broke into a grin after being praised so unreservedly by Aoi.

It really is amazing that she could move like that with so little combat experience, and I want Ginia to gain more confidence.

With that thought in my heart, I joined Aoi in showering Ginia with praise.
