[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 47

Chapter 47

Wailing

Translator : PolterGlast

As I was thinking that, I immediately started moving towards the location where I had sensed the goblin's reaction, and in no time at all, the goblin came into view.

There really are only common goblins in this area; this one was carefreely eating a piece of fruit, not even noticing me as I approached.

"I see the goblin. I'm going to kill it with my katana, so watch."

"I'm counting on you. I won't even blink so I don't miss anything."

Now, as for how to kill it... the easiest way is with a flying slash.

I basically always hunt monsters this way when I'm with Ginia, and I can kill it with my usual routine.

However, since I'm showing the Guild Master, I think cutting it directly would look better...

No, if it's just a common goblin, a flying slash will do.

Even if it is soft, if I cut it directly, I'll have to maintain my katana afterwards.

My desire to avoid the hassle won out, and I decided to kill the goblin with a flying slash—and without a moment's delay, I sent a slash flying at the goblin in front of me.

The sword was sheathed at the same time it was drawn, and the upper half of the bisected goblin's body went spinning into the air.

It didn't even seem to understand that it had been cut; it collapsed to the ground and died with a bewildered expression on its face, the fruit still in its mouth.

My magic may have been in bad shape, but the sharpness of my body's movements feels pretty good.

I don't know if that was good enough, so I turned around to look at the Guild Master's face, and... unbelievably, he was sobbing.

Tears were streaming down his face, and he made no move to wipe them away, simply staring at the goblin's corpse.

There wasn't a single part of that scene that should have made him cry. The only thing I can think of is that he felt sorry for the goblin—or something?

He said he was a former adventurer and is the head of the Adventurer's Guild that issues monster subjugation quests. He shouldn't have such feelings, but I can't think of any other reason why he would be crying.

"...T-too incredible. That was... you 'cut' the monster, right? ...No, you cut it, didn't you, sir?"

"Yeah, I cut it with my katana."

"You imbued your katana with wind magic, and used the momentum of the swing to launch that wind magic and bisect the monster? N-no, I couldn't sense any magic power."

"I just sent a slash flying. It's not that complicated."

"You just... sent a slash flying? This conversation is so nonsensical that my emotions are about to go haywire. Could you give me a moment to calm down? I'll have it all sorted out by tomorrow... You can go back to the city, Graham-san."

"Are you really okay? You look clearly unwell."

"I'm fine. I apologize for causing you concern."

Seeing the Guild Master bow his head deeply, I was unsure of what to do, but I decided to head back first on my own as he had said.

With a complicated feeling, I left the Guild Master, who was staring at the bisected goblin while crying, and for the time being, returned to the town of Biodasdal.

I still have this nagging feeling, but for now, I'll go meet up with Ginia and Aoi at the Adventurer's Guild.

I really wanted to consult the Guild Master about the 'good deeds' thing, but in that incomprehensible, high-tension state, it would have been impossible to talk to him.

As I was leaving the place where I had subjugated the goblin and heading towards the town of Biodasdal... I sensed a familiar presence in the town.

I hadn't sensed it when I left the city, so did it come while I was hunting the goblin?

In any case, I went through the entrance inspection and headed straight for the familiar presence that was wandering around the town.

There was no commotion, so I don't think it came to cause a rampage, but... it's a mystery why it suddenly came to the city.

"Hey, Dead Priest. What are you doing in the city?"

When I called out to it, the Dead Priest jumped in surprise.

That's right. The one who had, for some reason, infiltrated the city was—the master of the old abandoned road, the Dead Priest.

Thanks to the invisibility magic it had used before, the surrounding people didn't seem to have noticed it, but from my perspective, it was in plain sight.

It's more of a mystery to me that the people around it haven't noticed, with so much magic power leaking out.

"Ah, Graham-sama! You found me!"

"Hey, don't talk so loud. Not here. Let's move. Follow me."

If the people around us haven't noticed it, then if I continue to talk with the Dead Priest, I'll be the one who looks like a crazy person.

Wanting to avoid standing out in a bad way, I took the Dead Priest and returned to my cheap inn.

I really wanted to head to the Adventurer's Guild and talk with Ginia, but... at the Adventurer's Guild, it wouldn't be strange if someone noticed the Dead Priest.

If it was thought that I had brought a monster into the city, it would be all over for me, so I had no choice but to bring it to the cheap inn where I was staying.
